the last days/weeks i read more and more positive things about ethereum , what do you all think about ethereum taking over the big spot.

or will bitcoin just stay where it is , as nr 1??

At the moment bitcoin is still topping every other coin, maybe in the feature ethereum might do that, But I don't see the possibility because bitcoin is a currency and the value will keep increasing as more people adopt and use it. Eth is been used to fuel ethereum network. 

Bitcoin is still strengthening it`s dominance on the market as a most trusted coin. With good news for Ethereum that it is not a security and some future upgrades coming I think Ethereum will increase it`s market share but it is a long way  to go to catch up BTC.

I agree that the main value of ethereum is funding ICOs. For that reason I can't see it every overtaking bitcoin. It will remain a key player for a long time I'm sure, and plasma/sharding etc will certainly secure this.

ICOs could come under threat in the future. So many scams mean a lot of people are wary of them, even if regulators can't actually shut them down. Also, the EOS model of giving projects cash in exchange for giving EOS token holders a % of coins is a far superior model to an ico imo; it means a professional body is background checking every new project and only good projects are funded. Clearly this isn't going to replace ICOs but I think it will be a factor in there being less ICOs in the future (and therefore less change ETH will overtake BTC)

One day, maybe. But I have more hopes for BCH than for ETH. ETH personally for me is a little bit complicated.

Very interesting question and too many opinions at this moment. But any way Bitcoin now is the winner. But it definitely need some competitive crypto. This would be good for everyone

Currently BTC is superior to all the coins because its market champion and is trusted by millions of people across the globe.No doubt ETH has technological superiority over BTC but still BTC is king.Nothing is forever to exist,definitely BTC will be replaced by someone and i think in coming future if ETH come out with something innovative features than BTC then certainly BTC will be ousted but currently BTC is market champion.

I think that ETH will develop and can repeat the fate of BTC. But BTC will still be the first crypto currency in the world. In general, we will hope for such a scenario

You have just been hyped up on the things you do read up about ETH  ;D but well anything is possible into cryptoworld. Bitcoin is on the topspot ever since in last 8 years and basing on the dominance between ETH i would say it would really takes time for it to be overtaken. BTC community is way too big and the support that it gets which i do still hardly believe on such presumptions.

I think bitcoin's market dominance will not decrease too much over the 5 years but ethereum's market dominance will be always increasing because of the new economy built on it.

Ethereum has good growth and has the potential to grow. However, bitcoin is now better and stronger, so it will still be a winner. It takes a long time for altcoin to pursue to align with bitcoin. Basically, either bitcoin or ethereum is very good for investment.

So many people have brought different questions in this regard, in many responses that have been provided to the questions, I can perceive people are with the mentality that ETH is competing with Bitcoin. Friends, we have to understand that from Bitcoin to the newest coin on the market right now, all are fighting a common course; that is to make the world change into the full usage of virtual currency. Jesus in the Bible says that any house that fights within itself will never stand. Hence, what is happening now isn't competition, but a course at which to make cryptocurrencies stands forever.

Its bitcoin again. Why ETH take over the BTC any way? ETH will never be able to catch the market volume set for the BTC because for one big reason and that is, its unlimited emission. The ETH can be produced more and more whenever the supply starts to drop. This is the major reason why there will never be saturation of the ETH market. There will always be more supply than the demand and thus considering this formula I guess ETH will not achieve market cap as close to as BTC I shaving which is finite one and demand keeps growing for it.

Stop thinking that ethereum will overtake bitcoin.

Bitcoin will stay as it is and this has been asked for so many times but what happened? there's nothing happened and no big spot overtaking.

As we know, bitcoin is the most traded coin and paired with so many coins, and due to that, bitcoin price just changes slightly. Also, their feature was a mainstream one which copied by most of every coin in the world, this is why we need another coin that can beat bitcoin.

I'm sure that if there is a coin that can overtake Bitcoin, this is not Ethereum. So far, the whole market depends on Bitcoin. If its price falls and the whole market collapses. I do not see so far the contenders for the top 1 in addition to Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the real start of cryptocurrencies and traded pairs won't change. It's not an issue if bitcoin price is changing slightly, most of the crypto's do except the stable coins.

If you think that there's a need for another coin that can beat bitcoin, you don't have to look for another one, bitcoin will remain as it is and there's no way to beat it.

I think bitcoin is always be the highest of all because it is the number one currency and it is developing day by day. Ethereum is also developing rapidly but it cannot take bitcoin's place because the impact of bitcoin is always much more bigger to the users than other currencies.

I believe that Etherium is quite capable of bypassing bitcoin in all respects, and I think that in a couple of years we will see it!

Well, I agree that the market of BTC is down now but that doesn’t mean Ethereum will take the position. BTC price will recover soon and it will remain the biggest.

I think the time is very near when we will have to see the competition between BTC and ETH. Bitcoin is the pioneer but ETH is doing good. Both have some advantages to win. However, the time will show the result. But I have strong faith on Bitcoin honestly.

Now the ethereum is growing more than bitcoin but the btc will be the first for about 2 years because the ethereum will need a lot of resources in order to take the first place on the market.

in my own opinion Bitcoin still has a good future because every down there will certainly be setabil in a short time.

Ethereum would be the next spot from bitcoin. Many coins are competing with bitcoin but today it is still on the lead then next is ethereum. It will not taking over bitcoin in the future.

IMO, in the future, Ethererum will be more potent than Bitcoin, and high potential ETH will surpass BTC on the market cap in the market in the next 2 years. At the moment, Bitcoin has many disadvantages such as slow transaction speed and high transaction fees. If not improved in the future, it will be difficult to keep the top 1 position.

Yes, as of now, bitcoin are very low price but we don't worry about that, comes a time it will rise soon and will be the biggest coin price, just be patient.

It's a big no atleast for now, ethereum still pairing to the bitcoin and bitcoin itself has many supporters comparing to the ethereum, actually we can't compare both of them since they are better in their own way, they have their own unique features. Ethereum created to be a complement for the bitcoin, one thing for sure the value of ethereum will go up once the bitcoin's price is increase.

While bitcoin feels confidently at the top of the food chain, it is difficult to judge whether the etherium will become the top 1 crypt.

eth went up a fantastic amount, but bitcoin is currently in the public's perception. its front page news in all the newspapers, and google trends and searches are mostly for bitcoin and not ethereum. sure, those of us that are in the know, already know that ethereum has momentum and developer mindshare to be the dominant blockchain, but the public doesn't know it yet. but perhaps they will soon

Bitcoin is still the world's number one now. Because it has many features, such as a constant amount of total, and other projects tend to always increase the total, so this point determines that for a long time bitcoin has a value preservation feature. However, there is not much improvement in functionality.

for now bitcoin still ranks first in the market at the highest price. it's tough if Ethereum wants to shift Bitcoin because until now bitcoin is able to survive and provide the best even now Bitcoin is very popular, many investors join in Bitcoin. Bitcoin still the main and highly popular crypto among all the coins. And it will grow more in coming days. I believe that bitcoin will hold a position as first mover. But time is being changed. Some coins are coming forward to fight against crypto and they have high chance to make it happen .

i think ether will take over it this is a matter of time there is a huge developers community behind ether and alot of project of interporability that will be the cutting edge of the bitcoin dynasty

In terms of market dominance , Bitcoin will always lead since over 40 percent of market dominance is in bitcoins. Ethereum if it becomes investors can overcome bitcoins in terms of price but not market dominance.

It seems to me quite incorrect to compare these two currencies, because they have completely different purposes. And it does not matter who is higher in capitalization, their practical application in our life is of great importance.

Bitcoin is the biggest of all for the current situation as market is Bitcoin Dominated for more than 40% even in the bearish times which make it the number one choice of most of the users. People should stop asking the same question again and again by creating little change in its subject as the inside information will be same for all the topics. It is still going to be a question as long as there is no great development on ethereum platform and people are still supporting Bitcoin as the primary coin in the cryptocurrency, it is the questions that has been asked many times because it seems so many people wants Ethereum to take the lead because a lot of people are now into ethereum.

I agree with this. since bitcoin value is at the top. Bitcoin value depends on how many people use it and if many people uses it then its value will keep on increasing. So in my opinon there is a low possibility that the ethereum will take over bitcoin.

The way it looks now it seems that BTC will definitely stay as the main future coin followed by Ethereum but of course these things are never fixed in place.

We got so close to Eth flipping BTC at the end of last year and if that had happened, I think we would be in a different situation now, but it didn't happen. As of right now, BTC is king and is the crypto store of wealth. Everything bleeds when it grows. Now Eth could make a strong comeback and overtake BTC if they figure out scaling and real world cases for the crypto are implemented, but we aren't there yet.

Bitcoin is already the biggest of all right? Ethereum is a nice project and no doubt but still not enough to beat bitcoin when it comes to scalability. ( I'm not on favor of bitcoin just saying the fact). Why it is being number 1 will still be for a longer period. Let me give you a fact, Firstly, bitcoin was the first coin to be release and its protocol PoW is really a good start for a new innovative way to develop technology by blockchain. No doubt that eveything follows it grasp their idea from it right? This creation isnt perfect ( No offense Satoshi ) but as they say nobody is perfect. Now, the sprout of ethereum really add a cool way to develop blockchain by means of smart contract which is a total genius. You see lots of project really using it now as a holder of their tokens. But scalability is way slower although every bit of a project has it own unique and weaknesses. My favorite coin is ethereum and I can't wait to see it improve. But overtaking bitcoin without massive adoptation or helpful feature wont make it maybe few years yet to do it.

ethereum has no control whatsoever in this regard. to survive or thrive alone is already a good thing for the ethereum. bitcoin will continue to be at the Summit and also the bitcoin will continue to be a leader for altcoin. bitcoin deserved it with the system and demand that big compared to the other.

Ethereum is very much in demand today, but it is just a tool for starting ICO and one day it may lose its value, but bitcoin will certainly remain an asset for preserve value he'll always be number one.

Bitcoin for now will always have the major dominance of the all other, and it take a very long while before any other coin can over take bitcoin, bitcoin is the first and most popular coins, that's why they say bitcoin and altcoins.

ETH could take over BTC but BTC's value is too high for these dayse because it has become the main goal of investments fpr its highest stability among others.

we don't know what will happen in the future, Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency used, while Ethereum has a Smart Contract that is easy to use, but not only Ethereum who adopts Smart Contract, so I think Bitcoin will still be number 1
