I read some of the comments on the reddit link, but still, i'm not sure if these specs are good news or not for GPU mining.

From what little I understand, the 1080ti we see on the market today already have 11 GB memory. So isn't 12 GB memory not much of an advantage / enhancement to existing models? Please correct me if i'm wrong, maybe the fact that it is "GDDR6" could also play a dramatic role in improving it's performance.

Compared to 580's/1070's this chip arrangement will have nearly 700GB/s of bandwidth, so for memory intensive algorithms were talking theoretical increase of ~2.5-3x, and about a 2x increase from 1080.

Probably looking at 75MH/s + eth hashrate at under 200 watts.

FYI this is in line with what the Titan V does (80 MH/s) with the same bandwidth.

...ugh.

They need to male it so you dont have to use all the connectors, like the AMD cards being able to run just on the 8pin rather than the 8+6 pin.

This is only a test board made to give testers the flexibility to see what maximum clocks can be achieved by a certain GPU and what kind of power limits can be made possible.

Sure, maybe the newer ram and architecture doesn't require a further enhancement much past 11 GB or maybe more significant boosts to on-board RAM could be a growth for more futuristic cards. 

But the other thing not being considered in that train of thought would be expansions to onboard cuda processor memory which could also be greatly improved given the apparent bandwidth improvement.

I'm a new mini miner (3 months, 3*1070 gtx) and after reading the forum for last few months, was wondering why NVIDIA and AMD wouldn't be working hard to stay in the crypto business, as it must be so lucrative for them.

But there seems to be a lot of negativity towards GPU mining longevity in the forums.

Too much risk for them. There are already making a lot of revenue from different fields with new ones coming everyday like AI and others. These are one of those decisions that could make a company go bankrupt. They are already doing very good, their is no need to enter a very uncertain market.

I'm wondering if this + the very strict nvidia NDAs means nvidia is trying to push a subpar shorter lifetime chip

Awesome. Good info jstefanop. If these specs turn out to be real then we would be seeing new GPUs that would make Bitmain's E3 ETH ASIC become obsolete right? Well, at least for awhile until Bitmain uses the architecture on these GPUs for a new ASIC of their own.

This is just an engineering sample, not the retail product.
