Title: ubuntu 16.04 non-hwe: safe to upgrade to hwe now?
Post by: Muddybit on June 27, 2018, 04:32:34 AM
Hi,
Running a small rig with 2 x RX580 under Ubuntu 16.04.  Just swapped from zcash mining to Eth and noticed my hashrate is very low - around 14MH/s per card under claymore 11.8 with amdgpu-pro 17.20.   I recall there was some issue with HWE and amdgpu-pro and had held back from HWE stack because of that.  Is it now safe to upgrade to HWE/latest kernel and latest x-org and is that likely to fix my hashrate?
Thanks

unlikely to fix, it had to do something with page sizes, don't remember instructions, but you can google it.
however, it won't hurt, and maybe recent stack fixes everything.
your certainly DON"T need that rocm kernel.

Ok did a dist-upgrade, loaded 17.40 drivers and did the page size modification in grub, but still no difference. I suspect the dist-upgrade maybe didn't load the HWE stack or something.  Probably needs a full rebuild with 16.04.3 and try again.
