Title: Is it possible to report mod to close thread?
Post by: shield132 on June 28, 2018, 08:02:24 PM
Hello guys...
Seems I can't find but I'll ask: Is it possible to report moderator to close some threads instead of deleting?
As I see there is no such thing. If I'll report and comment to close, will they close? (If anyone tried... I don't want to do it blindly).
I ask this because some threads are necessary but people post same and same... nonsense...

I've reported many threads and they were deleted. It's not a problem.

If they go against the rules in some way, just write in the comment when you report what is the reason to report or just refer to witch rule is broken.

Same as iasenko i made it a couple of time by reporting the redundant posts and stating the low quality of the whole topic and mods locked it all afaik.

Edit :
I will never, EVER forget this thread:  Any interest in cupcakes for bitcoin? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1097068.100)
Now what's gonna happen if i necro bumped this topic (apart from being punished), SSRI someone? :P

report moderator to close
You mean lock?
The report to moderator is actually to help the mod to identify a post which needs to be deleted. However, in the comment section you can suggest the mod about what really needs to do? If the mod thinks your suggestion is logical then they may consider it. I might be completely wrong. Only the mods can give you the correct answer IMO since they are the one who handle the reports.

This was making me pull my hair out.  Look at the posts I made in the thread and you'll see.  It turned into idiots writing the same stupid suggestions over and over, not even realizing that the OP had long gone away.  This was in 2016, and I'm confident the problem started around the time of the first signature campaign.  Mods are pretty slow about locking topics, and it's good that they're not quick to shut things down, but damn....

Your post remembered me of this one: Report Sufficiently Answered Topic(s) to Lock (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3139231.0;all)

No one from the Staff gave a conclusive answer on the subject. However, this post caught my attention:

I see :)

Anyways, the good news is: They (Moderators) are now responding to "lock thread" requests.
I tried it twice (With the right reasons) and afterwards they locked the reported threads.

In one instance, I PMed the Author right after using the "Report to Moderator" button.
After a few hours the user had sent me a PM saying that "a mod already locked his thread".

You can lock the thread now.

P.S: There is no clear evidence that those posts were locked because of the report.

Mods delete the threads which repeat the same thing again and again. They would lock the thread and not thrash it, if it has useful answers. Simple as that. It can take a while to get a response but I suppose that is how it works.

If you visit Bitcoin Discussion now, you'll see much worse situation. Look at this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=448524.0
Bots are posting about airdrops, in a Service Discussion thread.

I have reported many threads written in Russian/Ukrainian/Spanish/Other-Non-English in the English section, and they got deleted quite fast, not locked because I leave a comment to the OP that he posted in the wrong section and after a while my comment is gone together with the post /confirmed by my post count too/.
So I assume that the threads were thrashed, not locked and moved to archive.
