Title: Will you guys check out my Bitcoin news site and let me know what you think?
Post by: macscoinreport on June 28, 2018, 11:44:22 PM
Would you guys check out my site and give me some honest feedback? i.e., whether or not you'd use it, user experience, articles that are shared, sources I'm using, any pointers you have that might improve it, etc.

The site is a news aggregator for Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, and blockchain. I realized in my time involved with Bitcoin that there wasn't a single source where I could find all the top stories/articles of the day in the space. I have to jump around to so many site and it's never concisely in one place. So I decided to throw this together and update as much as I can throughout the day between my day job. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

It looks very drudge-reportesq-like, i guess. I'm not really a huge fan of it since everything is really cluttered, and the font is  ( in my opinion, really shitty.) It reminds me of some of the earlier days of the internet.

I doubt i would use it very much, but then again, i feel like this is mostly due to personal preferences, and it's not really a good indicator whether or not the site in general is bad.

You've listed some decent articles, so there's that. The site also looks *better* on mobile due to the relative sleek design, which is a good thing, i think.

I agree with "AdolfinWolf" (honestly, it looks really bad [especially the UX]). You need to organize everything (literally):

  • Create a drop-down menu for "News Sources" and "Twitter Accounts" (place them at the top [header]).
  • Remove the "Recent Headlines" part.
  • Move "Contact Us" and "Privacy Policy" to the bottom of the page (footer).
  • Move "Subscribe" part to the upper right corner of the page.
  • Instead of having thumbnails for few of them, you might want to add thumbnails for all of the articles.
  • Addition of a short description and publication dates.
  • Move "Google News Feed" to another page.

I agree with SFR10 and AdolfinWolf. They enumerate the items that need to change, but you must change everything.
You use Wordpress, looks like you are a beginner at this world. Check on WP market, you can find tons of free WP themes, which will look more professional and usable.

The overall website design is so messy(or maybe even too messy). There are better ways on listing dozens of links without looking like a web design that was made in an hour. Not sure how experienced you are, but just so if you're a newbie in web design, I would suggest that you take a look at Bootstrap[1]. It makes everything easier in terms of web design; especially if you're a novice.

When i tried to surf the site. First thing i do see is the ads. White color isnt bad yet i do like simplicity but the arrangement do sucks. Every information either on News sources, Exchanger links arent even placed correctly which if you try to find it out you will still be confused on which one you would seek up. Random picture on some headlines. Arrangement would be needed and put some colors to make it attractive.
Its much better to make a column basing on what area or aspect they are belong so that confusion would be lessen up.

I'm going to just respond to OP's particular complaint about not being able to find a single source that aggregates all the relevant news in a single space. I personally don't mind a very narrow feed from coinspectator (which, if I recall actually also launched on this forum) and faws. They're both real time news aggregators. You can filter out a lot of the noise (but you'll still of course get a lot of it, depending on your chosen sources.

These, at first glance, are superior to your offering and seem to give you all you need. To launch another, you'd need to improve on what these guys offer/ I suggest a service that translates foreign sources into English as something I'd find really really useful. I know for sure there's so much Bitcoin discussion going on elsewhere that's not in English.

The site looks like the oldest design of a website or a blog before.
I think you must make your website design like what the other website using right now,
Arrange it with CSS and Bootstrap so that it can be more responsive to other devices like smartphones or tablet.
You can also use some free software to design your website. Try to use wordpress instead and use some free drag and drop tool to design your website.

- There are a lot of famous websites which do it effectively. Cointelegraph/news.btc are a few examples.
- The aggregated data is rather way less compared to your data sources. I mean I have been reading quite a few interesting articles on cointelegragh which is your data source but haven't come across that article.
- I would like if you give users a feature to add their favourite sites to a list and get data from only those sources. In that way, traders/merchants would like to read only data that benefits them unlike other technical stuff that doesn't interest them.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I tried to make the site as simple as possible, kind of aiming for it to fit a lot of news on the front page and be easily navigable. But sounds like that isn't something people want nowadays since the style looks so old. I've updated the layout quite a bit today. Let me know if the updates are an improvement.

I'll look into updating to a much more modern style shortly. Thanks again. If you guys could bookmark it and check back in as I update I'd really appreciate it! ;)

- Sorry to mention but the style still looks a bit old. Why don't you buy some good theme of a wordpress blog or something? Are you considering making any money out of the business? If no, you shouldn't really bother about the styles much as people care more about the content aggregation than a fancy UI.

I think he/she is hoping for that (based on the ads located on the header and footer area).

So I decided to throw this together and update as much as I can throughout the day between my day job.
You're doing it manually or it's automated?

Yeah, I'm planning to update the style soon. I was hoping that the non-fancy look wouldn't matter to folks, but I take it that's not the case. I really just want to provide a good source of info on all the top stories so visitors have a one stop shop and know it's a place to find the latest important articles.

I'm doing it all manually. That way I can cherry pick articles to may liking and also spice up the headlines if need be.

Manually - Labor intensive and you might not make enough money to cover those time
You have google adsense - are you sure they don't have problem displaying ads on news aggregater site that doesn't have any original own content?
Look at other news aggregater sites like one of my favorite http://cryptopanic.com and try to implement feature they have in yours.

Good luck

Articles are easier to understand for people who don't know english well (to my mind). That can be concidered as a positive for you because overall quality and main idea is good.
What you have to fix immediately is template. If website is very uncomfortable, why will someone read here? Especially when it's not major article source? Also I suggest to use wordpress and buy some great template on themeforest.

Huh. This time and age, that's a little on the rare side - as GEET mentioned above most sites like these just automate it. But I like how you're picking the topics that you think are especially relevant or interesting.

I can't help but wonder how long that takes though - is this a project that you're hoping to make some serious revenue from, or just a side project?

I dig the selection of actual articles.

The sidebars though are humongous and the type of thing you're likely to only access once or twice in your whole life, and most users will never, ever consult them. Make them a dropdown if they're going to stay or just have one link to a separate page where they're listed. That's a huge amount of space squandered.

Two uneven columns is pretty distracting to look at it. I don't think most people expect Bitcoin only news to be segregated from other articles.

I'd work on making the headlines more detailed so the bylines can go, or make the bylines punchier.

Looking at the site from a mobile perspective, it's clean and navigable, everything I expect from a news site in 2018, but it is a bit plain- the mobile site could use a bit more decoration. The mobile main page's plain white background and narrow separator for the articles makes the site look a bit cheap, but from a functionality standpoint the site works just fine. Things look good once you click on an article, modern and still navigable while not looking empty or plain. For reference, my phone screen resolution is 1080x1920 (no, not a mistake), and the screen size is 5.5 inches.

Even though it's good for us to spread news like that we may encounter some bad feedbacks such as hoax and false. This strategy of pulling strings while it's still early might give some really bad karma. We still don't know what might happen and predicting and absurd money till the end is still doubtful even for the fan of bitcoin it's still too early but let us predict and understandable amount just being realistic so that people can understand.

There is the section called press release in this forum itself mate. I see the investors mostly go with the news website like Coindesk or Cointelegraph mate.

If you want the people to see your news you need to share those news even you need to active on press release section and make new thread everytime when there is any new news on the crypto news site.

You should work on everything on your site. It's pretty basic and that's what makes your site not so interesting. It looks like a site from darkweb. It is old school. You should work on lay out for the style and other important stuffs like real time price check of Bitcoin and other Crypto. You should categorized also the news if it is for altcoin or Bitcoin. I saw few advertisements on your site. You know, you can maximize that. There's a lot of space.

You should work on everything to compete with top searched crypto news portals.
Also don't hesitate on adding unique features on your site which makes your site different from the other.

Yup, this is true. Good thing we have press release section which you can advertise your site.
Just make your report original and not just copy-pasted from the other site. Other top crypto news site pays for advertisements. I you want it to be popular. Then you must hire a campaign manager for that.

Backlinks isnt bad as long those resource website would really be displayed out either on a new tab or new window. It is quite hassle for you to go back after you do click a certain article since it would redirect you on entire page of the website. This is already a turn off for most readers or people who do love to read up recent news.

I do think fonts are way too big on my part and the space being used up on the right side wasted it should be on small fonts.

The main problem can be how you reach the Bitcoin users, which are coming from the whole world and use a lot of sites. Plus Web advertising can not be cheap, if you target a lot of people. So if you have good advertising balance, you can do something, otherwise target reach can be large problem.

Visited the site and I must commend the amount of effort you put there and the site is rich with information that would be beneficial to anyone visiting the site. But I feel there is still more to be done in making user experience unforgettable. For me, I would like to see a more categorization of the news posted on the site because on my first visit, I saw series of information facing me that I am even finding it difficult to see one that I would read. Put into categories like exchange news, legal news, crime, development, etc all related to bitcoin and also the headlines should be worked on to be more captivating.

Finally, when the traffic starts coming and you needed to start placing ads, I want to encourage that you be prudent with it by not clustering the sites with ads thereby the sites lose its very existence due to the quest to make money by the administrator. Wishing you the best in your venture.

What would be the primary advantage that you would have over already established competitors such as the likes of CCN and Coindesk? I get that it's a news aggregator, but most of these major news pieces would already be independently covered by each of these aforementioned sites anyways.

I do like the idea of aggregating major crypto tweets together, though. However, that section is obviously not finished at the moment since it says that there are "no posts to display".

Just wondering as well - are the news pieces automatically updated, or are they manually hand picked?

Apart from that, i'd like to see at least some sort of price feed for bitcoin and other altcoin prices, since your role is to provide a "one site for all" sort of thing. An interactive chart would be nice.

Yes, so I'd like to aggregate all the Twitter fees that would be beneficial, as well as all the sources. Just an easy dropdown for most/all the options. As for price feed, let me see what I can do there. I definitely see the importance there as well, so I'll add something in. I planned to do that, but just looking for the best option. Thanks!

Not bad information site but it has too frugal design. Try add some widgets. At first add cryptocurrency price ticker widget. And social widgets must have to be on it.
