...you could open a bank account in Japan in order to freely deposit or withdraw money into and out of Gox? Is this feasible?

I don't think you'll be able to open one without being a Japanese resident.

Yup, you can't unless you live there. A tourist visa is not enough. You need a gaijin card or whatever is equivalent now that those are going away. Even that might not be enough as Japanese treat foreigners as outsiders. Most banks require you have an inkan (seal) although I've heard that these days some of them are ok with just a signature.
