Title: MoBo with a PCIe x16 that works to 4x
Post by: Roxas93 on February 10, 2014, 12:10:00 AM
Hi!
I've an Asus P8z68v-pro that has 3 PCI-Express:

2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black) *1

2 x PCIe x1
2 x PCI

*1: The PCIe x16_3 slot shares bandwidth with PCIe x1_1 slot, PCIe x1_2 slot, USB3_34 and eSATA. The PCIe x16_3 default setting is in x1 mode.

Can I use the PCIe black for mining? (without adapters or risers)

You can use ANY pci-e slot, 1x, 4x, 8x, 16x  with a 1x - 16x riser, as long as the presence pin is connected like in the usb ones in my sig :)

how are you going to plug a gpu with a 16x card into a 4x slot?

I know that I can use any PCI-e slots... if I've the risers.

I've to order some risers but until then I have to fend...

Now, I've two 7950 that are put in the PCI-e x16 slots... but one of them has a high temperature (they are too closed).

Then, if I put one 7950 in the x16@4x black slot, They are farther

The x16@4x black is the last slot

Oh, yes that's a 16x slot working at 4x speed. I didn't get what you said.

Why would that happen? The worst thing that could happen is the motherboard doesn't like the drivers you have and doesn't recognize the card. PCI-e is a standard, it provides for communication and standard pin arrangements.

Because of the all VGA burned because of the powered risers, I'm afraid of everything that concerns the slots.

However, I've tried and works great! I've earned 7-8C°  ;D

you can use any pci-e slot, for mining you do not need anything better than 1x pci-e.
