I think it's because Russia has banned bitcoin.

I think it is because traders are bored and need to shake up the market to score a profit.

At BTC-e it hit 300$ and returned to 630$. Yes, shaking the tree. We'll see who like BTC and who like to panic.

MtGox hype

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=458074.0

https://www.mtgox.com/press_release_20140210.html

This is probably worse news than most of us expected. Not only are they not resuming withdrawls, they are claiming it is because of basic flaw in the bitcoin protocol.

If it's not true, it's still some really bad press.

If it is true, then will hurt the confidence of BTC in the short-term, and the price of course.

This was posted below that the flaw has been discussed elsewhere recently:

Few days ago I have read about that type of error on one of the exchange (not MtGox). Guy made some of such type transactions and informed exchange. The problem solved at the exchange side. I can't find thread now.

The current crash seems to be gox inside job how to not pay cash back for coins. Just let the price crash and rebuy cheap bitcoins. Fraud.

Again - troubles only at gox
        - crash of the price as a result
        - false 3rd authority while the problem is just made by gox and not 3rd authorities

I think this is like a bouncy ball, it go down to 500 and then all millinoär and big whales buying very very cheap, than its startet like a rocket and everyone will to jump on the cheap train and in one seconds the price is over 2000 dollar.  ;D

I am really thinking that what Gox said about the protocol is just fud and trying to do what it can to deflect any blame. There are TON of pissed off people right now that would probually fly over there and hang them in the public square for this. I can not imagine if it was a "basic" flaw that it would be left for so long.

Apple banning the app... yea whatever. WTF you gonna do, set up 10 apple mining rigs? I dont think you can just buy a simple apple minning rig lol. Outside of your main computer I dont see this really having much effect.

As for the Russia thing? Yeah smoke in mirrors... its RUSSIA...

Some people are gonna be rich. Buying at a low price, wow.....

I think it's because Russia has banned bitcoin.

you realy think that?
It is mostly because of Gox.

If you read forum you read it already for sure.

MtGox was suffering issues with withdraws, now they are back but they blame Bitcoin protocol for all that mess with their withdraws.

So here it is - a time, when panic people will panic :) so the price will go down. (a bit or more)

Isnt Gox using some type of modified thing for the block chain or something too? If that is the case, its them that broke their own shit and not BTC.

I dont see how Gox comes out on top of this anymore. I mean this wont totally kill them, but I can not see how they get people back after this.

Maybe it will spell more business for https://www.vaultofsatoshi.com (https://www.vaultofsatoshi.com), I like them more than Gox anyway.

I believe the price did dip to like around $100 a few hours ago (on btc-e). But it was like literally for a minute or less. Now, it looks like $650-$675 is where most of the resistances have been set.

Yeah the bots took care of the dip in short order.

If it does again it wont last long. IMO, These 700+ prices are here to stay unless there is some major issues. What? Well , I think if the feds started to mess around with it for starters.

It was an hard week for BTC, still always positive to see how strong it really is.
What doesn´t kill you makes u stronger.

Yes yes and again yes! :)

But if we take a look into past we will see that bitcoin has got bigger problems before.

Remember big price drop after SilkRoad problem?
Or when China has stopped Baidu bitcoin accepting?

and those are from only about half year.

Bitcoin is strong - as we can see. But there always will be some problems....
those we must fight with!

The volume is too low to make any calls either way. Most serious holders of BTC are in for the long haul and there aren't many of them. If you analyze all wallets holding bitcoin balance greater than 1BTC, you'll see only 400-500K people really actually have any meaningful stake in bitcoins. Well more than half of that doesn't actually trade and is lying still in wallets around the world.

As far as Mt Gox goes, its garbage. People have been unable to get their money out for months now. No sane US resident will ever go to Mt Gox because of all the FACTA and FBAR tax implications anyways.
