Title: How to deal with Token Spam
Post by: iconoclast on July 02, 2018, 03:32:21 AM
Some of you may have noticed a bunch of tokens appearing in your Ethereum Wallet in the last couple of days that you have no idea where they came from. In my case it was  tokens for IFOOD, FRES, LXT, DAG, ARP, EES, NC & LET. When people send me token spam my standard response is to report them to Etherscan as a spam token. If you have received unsolicited tokens you should also report them as this is the only way we can stop what is now a nuisance from becoming a plague.

It can't be reported and it will be exist in the blockchain. I doubt that etherscan will give a feedback for your report. The only thing i will do to send them all to the default wallet and it can decrease their supply. But this will not help a lot but at least this is my effort to not keep shit token in my wallet.

Token spams are irresponsible use of the ethereum network. They just clog the eth network with useless tokens.
I hope everyone becomes responsible crypto-token creators.

There is a trend of sending promo tokens, tokens with zero value and a free advertising for every eth address known.
The best way to prevent your main wallet from cluttering is not sharing your wallet address to airdrops or in public. Keep a separate wallet for airdrop, general use and long term storage. It might be a bit expensive for fees but worth the trouble.

Etherscan will flag them as spam so when you click on the token balances drop down menu they will appear at the bottom and instead of a token trading symbol they will be marked as"Token [Spam]". On the page for the token itself where it says reputation it will say Spam in red letters. Here is one that was flagged a couple of months ago.

The only thing you wallet actually holds as its own and can sign transfer of directly is Ethers. ERC20 tokens are owned by their respective smart contracts and your wallet merely has the ability to move a certain portion of those around by ASKING their contracts to move it. Therefore, your address doesn't OWN any tokens, the tokens are ASSIGNED to your address by the contract granting you the ability to move them (but only the contract can move them on your behalf).

I think Etherscan should add an option to permanently hide specific tokens or just hide known spammers by default. Other than that, just because you see a list of tokens on Etherscan, it doesn't necessarily mean that's everything you own. For example, you can own some SIM spam that doesn't show until you manually check how many you have. The only reason this is a viable spam method currently, is because of how Etherscan shows your tokens. Otherwise, you should always know what valuable tokens you have yourself so you'd only check the amount of those if you need later.

It often happens that there is a token that we do not know where it came from and I try to let it go and in a few days the token disappears again, maybe when it happens again maybe I will report it so as not to send spam tokens to someone's wallet.

i have been receiving those tokens too. i thought those were given freely because of holding ETh in our account. i did search to some of them to see whether they do have a value but seem nothing. i have no idea we can report token spam but right now i just ignore those tokens. as long as i am not bothered to it, i let it stay in my wallet but i hope someone can figure how we can send it to our spam wallet. :)

Token spam is becoming a menace, the rate at which they were sent last weekend is so alarming; if it continues that way it will make it difficult to identify and register legit Airdrop tokens in MEW.
I have been ignoring them so far, I suggest we ignore such tokens even when they make it to Exchanges to serve as a deterrence to such practices from others.

How do you get token spam? where? I have never encountered any similar problems

Then you don't need to do anything because they don't affect your wallet security.
And when they're valuable in the future, you can even consider selling them.

How are you going to find the valuable ones when you have 1000 shitcoins in your wallet?

Day by day token scam is increasing. Things need to be done to mitigate this problem. Is there anyone who knows how to report scam token? or is it even possible to report them?

What is this done for? How can an attacker benefit from this?

I think that's their way of promotion, but it's still suspected as spam because it's suddenly in our wallet. Actually get disiasati to create a special thread token spam so that we all can avoid mutual interference. But maybe some people also do not care about it.

Yes, it is because of the irresponsible use of the Ethereum network that such cases occur. I also get coins about which I do not know anything and they just lie on my purse dead weight. Perhaps the Ethereum team is aware of the problem and is looking for solutions, let's see.

I think the only thing you can do is just ignore it :). You can report or do anything :)). If you can so you can move all your token to another new wallet then your wallet will be much cleaner :)). But I'll not do that cause I'll have to pay fee for transaction. LOL. Just don't care about them then everything will be fine

I also have this problem but I do not know what to do with these invalid token. So I do not care about it.

This is a nice post. It can't be accounted for and this will exist in the blockchain. I question that token spam will give an input for the report. The main thing I can do to send them all to the default wallet and it can diminish their supply. Be that as it may, this won't encourage a great deal yet at any rate this is my push to not keep poop token in my wallet.

Following that strategy I'm afraid that you will run out of ETH very soon. At the end, the best thing you can do is leave those tokens in your wallet and forget about them, unless someday they become valuable.

That's really irritating. This spam tokens only clogs the Ethereum network. Actions must be taken to prevent this spam coins from clogging the blockchain network.

It has been heared that many spam tokens are appearing on the ethereum wallets of the people. It is not a matter tp worry but you can report against it on the Etherscan.

Wow, I didn't know that was a thing. Anyway to determine how they got your address. Is it through joining another airdrop, or they just randomly look for address on the Eth chain?

it could be a good step for the future can reduce the garbage token scams make the perpetrators will not do it again, so the creators create a real project real quality and useful

Actually in market many things have been created for crypto based on this some are good some are fraud or scams based on this situations some tokens are also found scams so we need to follow the instructions and gain knowledge about scams so we can avoid loss.

so the creators create a real project real quality and useful
No, creators aren't creating those things all of the time they are only creating ICO tokens that will make them rich and leave it after making money and repeat.

Exactly, i was also surprised to see some tokens i never took part in entering into my wallet. At first, i was like, i never did this, not until later, i discovered they were spams. I think it is high to get total rid of them.

Spam is always a nightmare, although most email clients have spam filters, but nothing is perfect. Here are some techniques to help you minimize spam.
Teach the filter where the spam is
1.When you see spam in your inbox the first thing is not to delete it, but let the filter know that this is spam and the next time it encounters it to spam it.
2. Never respond or respond to spam
When you see something unusual in the email received, do not open it, or if opened, absolutely do not click on any links, buttons and do not download attachments.
If spam is sent from your colleague or friend, it's best to contact them to make sure this email is reliable.
3. Hide your email address
The more people who know your email, the more spam they send you, the more you should create 2 separate emails like work email and personal email. You can use your personal email to write to the web when you sign up for a service on the web, business-only email (colleagues, customers, partners, etc.).
Or you can use fake email instead of your real email with the blur tools, spamex, mailshell ...
4.Anti-spam filter
Most Antivirus or Internet Security software of antivirus companies have spam blockers but it is better integrated with Microsoft Outlook on your personal computer and does not work with webmail.

I usually report that token too but in the end that coin never removed from my etherwallet so I just ignore it and sometimes in 1-2months the token suddenly will disappear, so next time I don't report it again and just let it stay.

I don´t think this is going to become a real problem since if it becomes too much it will become automatically filtered in most wallets.

Instead of entertaining them you should spend your time in most valuable thing that should do first.

It's really becoming annoying and even something else with the spam tokens. I really do wish that something urgent and valid can be done towards preventing or stopping the people that are behind these scam tokens. Just be careful as to what site you visit and the kind of ads you allow on your phone. There's almost little or nothing that can be done regarding them for now.

I receive a lot of spam token because  I've joined a lot of airdrop in the past. They really have no value, but they don't harm my account  also. I am just keeping it, and waiting for miracles that someday it will be listed on exchanges.
