Title: Very Important Issue With Metamask (and any Crypto-related Browser extension)
Post by: expertinfo888 on July 02, 2018, 09:44:49 PM
A lot of people use Metamask and it is definitely a really cool application, but something a lot of people don't talk about (or may not care about or be unaware of) is if you use it on Chrome, Firefox or Opera, basically any website you visit can see you have it installed and know that are a crypto investor.

This may not bother some, but it paints you as a target for crypto thieves. Just an important thing to be aware of.

However, it does appear that using it on the Brave browser might eliminate this risk. I'm not yet certain of this though.

In any case, Metamask is pretty awesome, but you should be aware of this if using it.

This really sounds like you had an experience when it comes to theft via metamask on your browser, can you kindly share us the deep knowledge or experience you are talking about ?

Thanks for this upfront warning and article link. I definitely like MetaMask for quick ETH transactions and its convenience. Definitely faster and easier than MEW, tough MEW is quite nice too. I will read the article and be more careful about which websites I visit.

More careful, what if I disable metamask when not in use. would it help to keep private key secure?

I tried it. Disabling seem to work. The exchange didn't recognized I've installed metamask. Seems to be the only solution now. Enable it only when you need to use it.
But there are many ways a crypto user be identified. And it all comes down to browsing habit and your security measures.
