Speaking of apples...

So what are the general parameters and guidelines regarding tips?  For free escrow, advice, useful information, doing something that helps the BTC community at large, etc.  I'm guessing amounts vary based on service provided or action taken, but would be helpful to understand generally accepted community standards...

Nope. If you feel like tipping somebody just send them whatever you want. Some escrowers charge a fee though, or state tips are welcome.

I prefer tips of any amount.  If you feel generous form this post, I could use a few hundred BTC.  Or just a pittance.  Either way I am good!!!

JK....from what I have seen, the tip amount is simply what the tipper feels the advise, service, help, etc. is worth.

I would say its more about what you can afford to tip and how helpful the information was. Any amount is very welcome  :)

Really depends on how much they help you, I don't normally tip unless the person has:-
1) Saved me money
2) Helped me in a way I could/would have never found myself

In those cases, I normally tip ~ 20% of the amount they saved me for 1, assuming it was over a few dollars, and, a dollar or two for the latter.

Interesting...so there doesn't seem to be any real culturally accepted guideline at this point.  People just tip whatever they feel like tipping?  You'd think there would be some general parameter based on value and quality of service.   Will go with best judgment then.

I don't think there's any tipping set in any industry (unless the tips are built into the price). You can give as little or as much as you like depending on the level of service.

True...was more looking for a guideline...like 20% for restaurants, or $5 for the valet...that kind of thing.  But I understand...just use your judgment...

It depends on the amount of money involved. You wouldn't give an escrower the same tip for operating a 10BTC and a 0.10BTC transaction.

Everytime I see someone tipping 20% at a restaurant I think "What the fuck?", then, realize the majority of people live in America where tipping is, for unknown reasons, standard.

This reality means that the job not only requires significant tipping in order to survive and justify being in the line of work, but that working as a server is not seen as a destination career path, but usually rather as a transient stepping-stone.  A shame really...when we eat in Italy for example, we are usually served by the owner of the establishment, or their very professional staff who make very good monthly stipend and are invested in their restaurant and have great pride in their profession...and most have been there for many years.  This creates an experience rarely matched when eating out in the US.

Not sure the franchised society we live in here in the US will ever be conducive to this type of cultural shift.

There are no rules on tipping. Tipping depends on the one who give tips.

After all, it depends on how much you appreciate that help...

I wouldn't give anybody a tip if they provided a crappy service. I'd tip an escrow a little depending on the amount though.

Exactly. The tip % should be completely up to you, and depends on how much you like the info/service.
