Title: Somebody is having fun with transaction malleability
Post by: Rampion on February 11, 2014, 12:14:27 AM
Am I the only one watching on blockchain.info as dozens of "double spend attempts" are being broadcasted?

Like this one: https://blockchain.info/en/tx/48b81b933bff28080ad7eb80236d5a2c001559a5b9ef8b0f3eb6c95649e1666f

Why?  They aren't actually double spends.  Blockchain needs to fix their definition... Duplicate transactions with different txid's are fine and no cause for alarm.  Transaction maliability is irrelevent to bitcoin functioning.

I believe it is connected to the "Enjoy Sochi" satoshis that are spamming the blockchain right now...

Well, the "transaction malleability spam bot" is having a lot of fun, every single transaction I've broadcasted today has been "mutated".

Pretty useless for the attacker but also pretty annoying for the users to have the client filled by all those unconfirmed transactions... And I can bet that some novice might get scared and think they are spending their coins twice.
