Title: Lost 0.35 btc to a false freshman student.
Post by: johnscoin on February 11, 2014, 06:46:46 AM
There are too many fraudsters, please be more vigilant next time.
just was careless so that was deceived by a fraudster via skype, he sent a email to me via a false "@edu" email address.
I was careless so i trusted him and then I LOST 0.35 btc.
It's because the people I met all the day are honest people, that I relax too early, and finally was cheated by such a false freshman student.
Please keep in mind that in the virtual world you should be vigilant.

Procedure:
1. He contacted with me at skype.
2. he refused to give me things first because of circumspectness, and ask me which escrow I would choose.
3. I said  such a small amount didn't need to use escrow service. And now that he is a freshman student, If he can provide "@edu" email, then I can pay bitcoin first.
4. he said he would like to send email instead of receiving it. So I gave him my email address and he sent one email to me.
5. I found that email in "junk", I was careless so that I did not see the indistinctive warning about the email address by my email service. So I send 0.35 btc to him.
6. After waiting half an hour, I found that he deleted me on skype.
That's all.

An important thing to take into account is that it is trivial to fake a sender email address. You don't even need special software for it, when you set up your mail-account in Thunderbird or Outlook, it'll ask you what to use as sender address. Whatever you fill in isn't verified in any way.

So the only way to ensure someone controls an email address is to send something to it and have the person read the message.

You shouldn't trust someone by emails or accounts etc, these things can be hacked or faked easily.
