Title: Basement ventilation advice
Post by: jonehh on July 06, 2018, 03:38:32 AM
Long story short looking for a way to vent air out and also bring air in without running two vents. Also looking at pros and cons of just venting out vs venting out and in. Please take a look at my video. Thanks!

I am looking at products like this -

Looks like GPU's not asics, not sure if this will get moved or not since you're probably not mining bitcoin.

Unless you are and you have asics? Then you'll want much more than a 290 CFM bathroom fan.

This would be better but you'd still probably want more CFMs for asic mining. I would recommend exhausting outside not into the next room or area as this will be the air that is then again moved into the mining room. So you'll want the inline duct fan as well to get the air out through the ducting. The pull from the ceiling will draw air in naturally unless your room is sealed (most aren't). A basement should be cold(er) even in the summer and if temps are typical room temperature you're in good shape.

If you want more flow into the room:

Might work or something similar, this should be a two pack. You can mount a fan to the door with the vent installed but will want to have a solid door not a hollow one.

I imagine more experienced miners than I might chime in soon.

Good news:  Power in == heat generated, so it really doesn't matter if your using GPUs or ASICs.

Using an S9 as a rough basis point, 1450Ws needs about 300 CFM of air for cooling.  So just figure your wattage and use that ratio to get close.

How about one of these to shoot the hot air out?

https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Inline-Variable-Controller-Ventilation/dp/B01DXYMM2I/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1530914156&sr=8-5&keywords=8+in+duct+fan

Would the following plan work?
- 8 inch 720 CFM fan booster to push air outside (the run is about 20 feet straight to outside). I will put this vent right above the mining rigs to draw out the most heat.
- Put the door on the room so its about 90% sealed and only a small amount of air will get in under the door
- 8 inch fan with booster (same booster as above) on the other side of the room to bring in basement temp air and in the winder times it will bring in filtered cold air from outside

So will have two vents in this room.
- One to suck hot air out of the room right off the rigs
- One to push in cooler air from basement / filtered outside air.

Thanks for your advice!

What does the wattage based math I outlined tell you?

Power use is considerably less with GPU mining compared to asics, requiring less less in CFM to exhaust. If you're a GPU only miner you can save on draw for cooling compared to asic mining, increasing profits. Apples and Oranges. Semantics maybe but still discussion worthy. As well putting the post in int he correct area for community replies.

Forced ventilation is expensive and not always effective. To make room for mining was a constant circulation of air should do the calculation on the basis of aerodynamics. A competent specialist can create conditions in the room in which passive ventilation will be much more effective than all your fans.

too, would transfer their cards to the basement, because on the balcony with this big problems, now + 30 on the street, and there is even hotter
