This question was asked in a telegram group and non was able to answer it appropriately. So I decided to post it here for an answer in case anyone has idea. Is Etherscan owned by Ethereum

If you go to the About page of etherscan (https://etherscan.io/aboutus) you'll see some names and photos.
Since Vitalik (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitalik_Buterin)'s name and image is not there, I'd assume that etherscan is not "owned by Ethereum" Foundation.

Most likely Etherscan does not belong to Ethereum, as this information is not indicated anywhere. But maybe they actively cooperate and hide it very skillfully.

Though the information is not indicated anywhere that the team have something in common but the cordination between the two projects makes me assume that they are related.

No it is not owned by Ethereum. In fact nothing is "owned" by Ethereum. It's all open source. Tools like Etherscan, myetherwallet, Metamask have been developed by passionate developers who believe in ETH. Between, why do you ask this question?

Etherscan is not owned by ethereum its a search engine that allows Ethereum blockchain users to look up, confirm and validate transactions that have taken place on the blockchain. Etherscan has been founded by Mathew tan along with 20 more cofounders.

As per the record they don't relate with each other, they both have a very different working sector and policy , and nobody have found any surety about this information but yes they definitely cooperate with each other and create a very skillful business environment.

No, Etherscan is not owned by Ethereum. But I think it is faking to be owned by Ethereum to use the goodwill of Ethereum for it's business.

As regards what I've read about Ethereum and Etherscan according to record, Etherscan does not belong to Ethereum. Although, they are indeed related, but Ethereum does not own Etherscan. Etherscan just believes in Ethereum which serves as a medium to view transactions that occur on the blockchain.

Etherscan is the Ethereum service and is capable to carry out monitoring of the translations of all coins which are stored in MEW and have the ERC20 standard.

Why do you think so? I haven't heard from anybody that there is any connection with this coin. I think that the developers knew that people may think so and named it with the intention to make it recognizable

I don't think so. it can't be truth because the ether developer has never written that they have such a coin. I think that they have similar names not by chance. they either have similarities or just to confuse people

I think it is owned by a private company that also owns everex, they have been in the crypto field for long but im disappointed with their big project everex that seems to be gone to the back yard at the moment.

These sort of information needs to be sought out on the different platforms and forums in order to avoid misconception and the acquisition of false news. We can try looking up at the internet for further clarification. But, off the record, they are not owned by one another at all.

Etherscan is not owned by the Ethereum Foundation. But I think it's a project that got floated on the Ethereum blockchain. They do not have a coin and known investors so, so I thin it's just a complimentary service to the chain.

Thank you  ;D Very interesting topic and I never really thought of it like that. I don't think it's owned by Ethereum, but just designed because blockchain = transparant and this way everything is easy to check and look back on. It's an outcome and a very innovative tool.

I don't think that etherscan is owned by Ethereum or Vitalik who founded it. It simply a different company and have a different purpose on each platform, just like blockchain.info isn't owned by Satoshi Nakamoto.

I also have the same concern as you, But I think that the Etherscan is not owned by Etherum. I hope someone can clearly show this issue for everyone.

Actually Etherscan is not owned by Ethereum. But what I think is etherscan and ethereum actively cooperate with one another.

Ethereum is a coin, thus it canot own anything. Ethereum is, at least in theory, decentralised and decissions require consensus. MEW is just an independen project.

It seems etherscan and ethereum are interconnected so i think no one has it. Because the use of etherscan can track all transactions made by the user in the form of tokens and not only ethereum.

actually this is just my assumption, i think they both work together but stand separately, both sing dependence and that's good, very good

as far I know or learn that is No eth doesn’t own Etherscan their working types or operations may be same but they have different identity based on this there no proper information’s about it but we need to learn before investing because its related our money.

I cannot say for sure but maybe it is just the name dropping collect bitcoin cash, ethereum classic. So there is two options or other scan is owned by Ethereum, or it's named itself the way it would be more recognisable.

No it does not belong to one another. But if there are still some doubt, in order to remove the cloud of doubt, the best option would be to look it up at the internet for further clarification. And the other option is to look at the different forums as well.

I will take this answer as the truth since a different company can't perform a function that is closely linked to each other as we see with etherscan and ethereum. I assume they might try to operate covertly to avoid public suspicious.

As much as their website describes it is not owned bt ethereum. They have just named it like that to fool people like bcash did to bitcoin.

I don't think so because it will view address' which is not generated by Myetherwallet.

Etherscan is just like many other ethereum blockchain explorer owned by separate individuals and there is no any direct/indirect involvement of ethereum foundation in it.

Even myetherwallet is not owned by Ethereum foundation if you are also curious about it.

I can be sure that Etherscan is not a product of Ethereum, it's a tool to check e-wallets, where ETH stores as well as the entire Token ERC-20. Many mistakenly think Etherscan is the tool of Ethereum to help people look up e-wallet address as well as transaction history. Etherscan is a project based on the Ethereum platform only.

And just like you, we are "users" of the Ethereum Blockchain. Etherscan is not funded, operated or managed by the Ethereum Foundation but instead exists as an independent entity.

I like your topic, it gave me some research to do and I found out both are owned by two different people.
Matthew Tan owns Etherscan.
Vitalik Buterin owns Ethereum.

Although, etherscan is ethereum based, it does not depict that it is owned by ethereum, or better still Vitalik. Instead, it was developed by some blockchain experts, who found the need for it.

Yes, this is an official website, but you do not need to enter the key from your wallet. It is very dangerous!
