Title: Virwox suspends BTC withdrawals
Post by: mpradeep on February 12, 2014, 08:57:38 AM
2014-02-12: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT : BITCOIN WITHDRAWALS SUSPENDED!

Warning
Because of a denial-of-service attack against the Bitcoin protocol, we have to suspend Bitcoin withdrawals temporarily until a software fix is issued.

No funds have been lost and no funds are at risk.

This is a denial-of-service attack made possible by some misunderstandings in Bitcoin wallet implementations. These misunderstandings have simple solutions that are being implemented as we speak, and we're confident everything will be back to normal in a few days.

Bitcoin withdrawals which are on hold pending review will remain on hold until it is safe to process them. You may also cancel such pending withdrawals (from the transaction history) if you wish to do so.

We will communicate any further developments regarding this issue. Thank you for your understanding.

It was the only exchange which made it possible to send and receive money and from paypal accounts. Bitinstant used them to do their bidding on that regard and possible their clones as well.

BitSimple is not affected.  We are accepting trades right now.  We aren't crazy enough to sell Bitcoins for PayPal but we will buy your Bitcoins for a paypal payment (or ACH or Bank Wire).  We also never hold user's bitcoins so if we did need to suspend wallet operations your coins wouldn't be frozen.

Any service that uses a smaller hot wallet and bitcoin-qt will soon have a few transactions stuck. They just need to wait for 0.8.7 that stops bitcoind from using unconfirmed transaction hashes as input.

Either you manually rescan from time to time, halt payouts, didn't use bitcoind in the first place or compile and run the proposed patch already now. Since this might be a good time to check your code for the usage of transaction ids anyways, and with sending bitcoins a better safe than sorry approach is recommendable, it looks like a lot of services rather choose to wait for the official patch and look at their own ledgers in the meantime.

Just head of your service, do you do International Wire transfer to Europe?

BitSimple is available to US residents only at this time but we will be adding international support shortly.
