Just a question I have a few wallets on my phone. like Coinomi. etc.
What I am thinking is getting a new phone.
What should I do with my wallets? how would I transfer them over?
if i delete the app on present phone, do i loose everything?
or just getting the app download on new phone, i get retrieve everything with my login information from Coinomi? thanks

Looks like with Coinomi you need to export your secret seed. I would imagine the other apps have a similar process. If you delete the app before you export this seed, you will lose your money.

You should always have backups of your wallets, even your phone wallets. That backup is the same information you need to access the same wallet on another phone. Search for the name of your wallet and "backup" or "restore" to find specific procedures.

You can try to just export the seeds of those wallets on your phone as adviced by someone above, but if you want to permanently remove the risk of getting your private keys leaked from unwanted people(if you plan to throw away or sell your old mobile phone after moving your funds), You should just transfer your funds out of your wallets from your old phone to the wallets you will create on your new phone.

Just export your private seed (like you should initially when you installed the app and generated the wallet). If you don't have your private seed written down in a save place DO IT IMMEDIATELY. If you drop your phone or your phone gets stolen you lose everything ...

You should get the seeds (private keys?) for all the old wallets for 2 reasons:
1. Transferring funds from one address to another usually costs money (even 1 cent is money).
2. You should also keep those seeds in a safe place (on a paper, offline, for example), since if you lose your phone or it gets bricked for whatever reason, you'll also lose your coins.

PS. You should also re-create and backup the 2FA seeds if you have 2FA enabled anywhere.

Very simple method: If you have the Seed phrase with you then no problem as you can install a new copy of wallet in your new mobile phone and after installation it will ask to enter old seed key or generate new one, just copy your old seed phrase and here your old wallet is installed in your new mobile phone. But if their is no seed key then you have to copy the private key of the wallet and then install it in new mobile when it will ask you after you install new copy of that wallet in your new mobile phone. But take care that first you proceed all setup step by step and after you are fully sure that your all wallets are loaded in your new mobile phone after that you can format your old mobile phone as if you are selling or trying to dispose it then other should not be able to get your wallet so that you should not be in loss of theft.

You must have backup data, if you install the latest software. But if you have not made a backup then you will lose all the contents of your wallet. My suggestion You must have a backup provided by the wallet.

You have two options,if you want to download the coinomi wallet into new phone then you can import them by using the private seeds which you were given by at the time of creation of the old existing wallet on your old mobile then all your coins will be seen on new mobile too,or you don't have that private seed but you still have access to your coinomi wallet on old mobile then you can transfer all your coins to the new wallet's addresses respectively for each coin you were holding.

Option 1 do give out less hassle if you dont like into importing things which you would basically sent out your coins into your new phones ICONOMI wallet yet you had mentioned you would purchase a new one and it would just cost small fee and less hassle because just a few clicks then you are good to go.
Most common action is to import seeds or backup files which is a basic thing on most wallet have that kind of thing where as a user you should really be concern on how to keep those informations safe incase of recovery or accessing your wallet.

If OP is asking these questions then it's almost sure he doesn't have a proper backup. And this means that even if it's a little more hassle, doing a proper backup and also a restore, so he can see the backup was correct is the best way to go. And after doing these steps he will also have the wallet on the new phone.

The problem with this is that information stay remained on the old phone.
Depending on the amount which is (or in future will be) stored inside this wallet (generated by this seed), it might be very foolish to resell  / give the phone away.
It might be possible (under some circumstances) that enough information can be retrieved from the old phone (even with a factory reset) to regenerate the seed which is being used.

The 'cleaner' alternative would definitely be to use a new seed.

I don't have any good idea for you as far as i know your data will remain on your phone you can lose your wallet by restarting your device. I advice you to make a backup of your phone.

It's not possible to know the seeds even if you look at all manifest files on the Coinomi Android app. And I doubt someone will look into that as they are not aware of the phone's past. Even using rooted apps will not do and I doubt there's a possible app for that.

Coinomi once uninstalled and reinstalled will definitely asked for keys upon opening. OP just need to remember the wallet phrase and that's it. No hassle. Been doing that lots of times already.

Moving the data to the SD card isn't a way to move the app's sensitive data (like passwords or saves for games) at all.
It just moves the app's resources. In an instance that the SD card was removed, most apps will keep the user's data in the internal data storage and when the user reinstall the app, his data may still be intact.

Yes it's far fetched but still possible if the wallet app isn't password/passphrase protected. (can the user create an unencrypted coinomi wallet?)
But if a rooted phone with a loaded wallet was stolen, there is a great chance for the thief to get the coin by flashing a customized recovery mode that's readily available for geeky users, still, an encrypted wallet will be a challenge/impossible to steal.
Agreed, a simple reset factory settings (wipe user data) is safe enough with regards to Coinomy and other encrypted mobile wallets.

@worldtraveller321 In addition to the multiple replies of restoring via SEED, if in case your phone was rooted,
you can use Titanium Backup or any related superuser backup app which can backup the whole app including the app data from the root directory (app settings, accounts and everything) then restore it in a different (also) rooted android phone.

How many people do you actually know with rooted phones? And not to label OP, but I don't see someone that can root their phone also asking questions about how to move their wallets between phones

Yes, that's fine, but do not send it to any exchange except if you're planning to buy another digital currency.
The current recommended transaction fee (based on Electrum's recommendation via mempool) is 10sat/b.
Sending them to another wallet/address isn't going to be expensive unless you have 100+ inputs.

you can save your data in the form of bat files that you can sync with the applications contained in your new phone. Can also through private key connected in the system, you should not forget it.
