Title: [WTS] Alitin Mint sell-off (2013 2oz Adam Smith with certificate)
Post by: cryptodechange on July 09, 2018, 06:41:48 PM
I am looking to liquidate my stock of coins from the now defunct Alitin Mint. These were originally meant for resale (under agreement with Alitin), thus were never funded prior to the private key compromise/sweep last year, which resulted in most (if not all) Bitcoin being stolen. They are essentially untouched, as-is from when they were delivered back in 2014.

Was there ever a post mortem or explanation for what happened to these coins?  Like did they ever figure out if it was someone able to x-ray the keys, or was it an inside job?  Apart from a few people getting refunds, I don't remember anyone ever getting an update.

Whoever put in a claim before their deadline were refunded the swept Bitcoin, I was told that the FBI were apparently involved, though radio silence since then.

If you look up the breach thread, I highlight some contradictions made with the details of the story told (who did the engraving under whose watch). IMO, the full details were never disclosed, no idea if it was true theft or an inside job - though they admit it had to be someone close to them. I doubt we'll ever get the full story.

It would be nice to know what exactly happened and if anyone was held accountable for the theft.

I'll drop them another email and reply here if they respond.

I did think about repurposing the coins by gently cutting open the case and covering the private key carefully with a securely printed label, for private use.

Some raffles could be in my pay grade.

Even at today’s BTC price.... do you really believe these coins are worth 1200-1300 USD??  That’s one serious premium for 2oz of silver a box and a COA that obviously meant nothing.

I second this... I’m definitely interested but would price these in USD equivalent only.  By comparison we just bought really nice btcc coins for a modest premium over btc value.

Out of curiosity, what is your ceiling limit for these coins?

I am tempted to auction 10 of the coins as a lot, with a starting price of weight in silver (20oz)

That’s a much better asking/starting price for the lot of 5.  Literally 50 times less per coin at the current bid.  Lol

This sounds a lot like an active investigation.
