You can also buy them through ebay. Some people put them up for much less than market value. Make sure to check market value first!

Be careful though, i don't think eBay approves the use of the service to sell Bitcoins, you might not have much to do if you get scammed there.

Are any of the faucets still going on? You could get some free bitcoins from one of those.

I've been using http://dailybitcoins.org/ lately, you can get little bit once a day, it's ad funded so they don't mind you coming back, actually they want you to come back, and randomly you can get a little (and somtimes relatively a lot) more.

I'd stick with MtGox over TH still. Just always be careful! Keep your coins in your wallet until you're ready to go to market.

DO you have a full time security analyst? What improvements did you make? Do you guarantee 100% money back if your hacked?

Don't mean to interrupt the fawning over 2BTC, but for someone like OP who seems to be looking for a small amount, neither TradeHill nor MtGox make much sense.

Aside from the obvious funding and fee issues, waiting for deposits to clear is a pain in the rear-end, not to mention "SURPRISE! IDENTITY CONFIRMATION TIME!".

We do have a full-time Security Manager.  These are some of the measures that have taken place since June 20.  We have a 2-factor authentication where our users can use the Yubikeys to ensure the security of their accounts.  All of our employees are using the Yubikeys internally as well.  We've also implemented a system to identify and lock down potentially compromised accounts. 
Currently, we are certified by VeriSign.   The VeriSign Trust Seal is a certification that Mt.Gox’s user information security practices are in-line with internationally recognised standards.
As a further precaution, we have more plans for security in place to prevent malicious attempts like the one in June from occurring again.

Bitcoins aren't a Ponzi scheme, the exchanges are. Everyone try withdrawing your money at once, see where that get's you.

And if your argument is that Bank's would technically be ponzi schemes in that sense too, we'll you don't see MTgox with a FINCEN license or being a registered N.A.

What about arranging a face-to-face sale? You can meet at a wifi hotspot (McDonald's, coffee shop). Just bring some cash and a laptop. Super easy. Here is a link to one of the services that facilitates such meetings.
