By looking at the market cap of all coins, seems like Ethereum is next to Bitcoin. But in an OVER-ALL ASPECT among all Altcoins, is Ethereum the closest thing that can be compared to Bitcoin? What do you think?

It is true when you compare market cap. But Bitcoin and Ethereum have different uses. Bitcoin is intented to be used as a currency and Ethereum is used for smart contracts.

Why is everyone so eager to compare Ethereum and Bitcoin. They are not alike at all and have different purposes. These two crypto currencies combine popularity and if we compare by this feature, then they are similar.

Yes ethereum can compete with bitcoin. Because bitcoin belongs in the 1st position and ethereum belongs in the 2nd position. Their market demands are also similar. But its true btcoins price is too high. That’s why many people’s are not invest on this project.

Yes. Ethereum is growing very strongly. It is the best altcoin at present. There are many people who are investing in Ethereum. Ethereum has the same features with Bitcoin. Ethereum was struck by experts who could pass bitcoin in the coming time.

Yes it is, although it's developing the different platform from bitcoin but it can be considered as the big candidate to compete with bitcoin on the coinmarketcap. But it looks so far right now consider the bitcoin dominance has been increasing a lot after the big duymp has already happened so far.

Yeah sure, Ethereum is the closest coin to be compared with bitcoin, Ethereum has over the years been so successful, in-terms of their implement and network stability and in the market cap, it is the second to bitcoin and it has more trading pairs just like bitcoin

Bitcoin and ETH are different thing but under marketcap ranking these two comes next to each other but it keep changing with time.

Yes, Eth is the only crypto right now that even has a chance to overtake bitcoins total marketcap.

 In the present cryptocurrency market, only Ethereum is sufficient to be comparable to Bitcoin. Most people refer to Bitcoins and ETHs without mentioning altcoins as well as ICOs. So if you compare the potential between the BTC and ETH, the enormous potential in the future ETH will dominate and surpass the BTC on the exchange rate.

Obviously, This is true in crypto world and both are more reputed platform in the market. These are the two eyes of Crypto market so both are same priority in today's market but future is unpredictable. I think some innovations are comes in future we should expect some other possibilities.

Yes in any aspect,  ethereum is just like btc for me and only thing different its price. Eth can be perfectly compared in bitcoin. First in the exchanges. Top trades can be done with btc pair or eth pair. Can both exchange to fiat currency. Eth is always at the back of btc and u guess someday price will be near. Demand is getting bigger as more users know crypto currency

I think so. Ethereum is next to bitcoin now. But in the future ethereum can beat bitcoin. And will become the most dominant altcoin in the market.

Both is different purposes and platform , But we can say Ethereum is closest to compare with Bitcoin on the coinmarketcap , even though it is still very far to compete with Bitcoin .

I am not really sure why this question or topic is being raised multiple times over a week. This is the 4th time I am responding to a thread making comparison among bitcoin and ethereum.

I think so! Since ethereum is second largest cryptocurrency in the CMC and it has a great potential to surpass the largest volume in cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. Unfortunately, ethereum gas price becomes high. Time by time, gas price doubled and I think it really affects its name. However, I want ethereum more than other open source smart contract platform.

Depends on how you are looking to Ethereum and how you will compare it to bitcoin. It's the closest coin next to bitcoin because it has the highest market cap than the other altcoins. If the topic starts to be dictating that bitcoin will be replaced by Ethereum, I'll start to say that it won't be close to it though it has a big market cap and it's #2. For someone that is expanding his portfolio and wants to diversify, he's next choice is Ethereum but again I'll say it depends on how you'll describe your comparison.

I think yes because now Ethereum and Bitcoin are contradictory and so both coins are also in comparison but they have similarities and have blockchain technology so that some of them often compare bitcoin and Ethereum about price issues because Ethereum has good growth and can back to the original price quickly and differently from bitcoin

You cannot compare Bitcoin with ethereum. They are completely different and have different positions in the market. But they both are the most potential coins in the market.

I see the same thing, that is Ethereum has a similarity platform like bitcoin, in all aspects. which distinguishes it is price. ethereum is cheaper than Bitcoin. so if you want to buy Bitcoin, then just as you buy Ethereum.

I think so. If we are going to take a look on how this altcoin is working fine in the market we can see that truly ethereum is the altcoin that is next to bitcoin. The platform of ethereum is what the others are using because of its simplicity and and user friendly. This thing is the biggest help of ethereum itself to become more and more strong in the crypto world.

If i can say, Ethereum is just the brother of Bitcoin, which can make a great movement against the cryptocurrency world. In the other words, Ethereum helps Bitcoin to expand in all country.

Everything is compared to Bitcoin,,, but that is only because everything else is classified as cryptocurrency, even if they are not really. Ether, for example, is supposed to be the fuel for transactions and smart contracts, but everyone is also using it as a method of payment. You can argue then that these tokens are not used for original purpose, unlike Bitcoin which truly is.

True comparisons for me? Monero, Litecoin. All specifically for payment.

I gonna agree that ethereum is the next to bitcoin when talking about trades at all time mate,  the second is eth because many of us uses eth many purposes like buying in some ico and also to be trade. And as what i seen in the future of eth is that,  it can have the strength to be back at its all time high soon

Yes, you are right to say that ETH is the next to BTC if you compare marketcap. Most of the time, ETH is ranked 2nd in marketcap. However, BTC and ETH are created for different purposes.

they are some differencies bietween bitcoin and ethereum.
Ethereum is focusing on tokens ecosystem and algorithm is different then bitcoin.
Smart contract feature is really nice so in my opinion ethereum is more powerfull then bitcoin.

As far as I know, yes.
Ethereum is the only one worthy as the next bitcoin at this moment. I am not sure if tomorrow we can see another alt that will soar high to overtake ethereum at top two. There are also good and very potential coins in crypto. Well, I hope that ethereum will maintain its good standing in order to  remain as the leading alt of altcoins.

We can not predict what will happen with ethereum and bitcoin all the more likely to happen, given the persistence of ethereum and bitcoin amidst unstable world altcoin prices but eth and bitcoin remain the choice of many for long-term investment, both of which have good names and roles in the eyes of digital asset lovers. which I certainly only know that Bitcoin will still dominate the digital currency amid many other competitors.

Bitcoin is the most popular and reliable coin. It is the oldest coin in this market. Ethereum is relatively new in comparison to bitcoin. Eth is also doing very good in the market and it is considered to be second currency in the market. Bitcoin is in the first but eth needs more time to be a close competitor of the bitcoin.

The next best crypto currency is ETH. This coin has equally good fame and buzz in the market. But it is a little less popular than bitcoins. Then again, this coin is the next best alternative of bitcoins. Even with this terrible state in the market, ETH is still popular.

of course ethereum is very close to bitcoin. because the first rank after bitcoin is ethereum but that does not mean that ethhereum almost matches the bitcoin price. which I feel for now, ethereum will reach the first rank when bitcoin still has not improved as it is now. we better do the profit now while always looking at the market.

It depends on how do you compare them and what do you want to use them for. Ethereum is better than Bitcoin and Bitcoin is better than Ethereum at the same time.

Bitcoin has a first move advantage
My mom knows what Bitcoin is
The community is a lot bigger
It’s easier to get started
Ethereum is less known and younger
It uses “move fast and break things” motto
It learned from Bitcoin and fixed a couple of issues in it’s design
The community is smaller and therefore has more developers than speculators

There are a lot of comparisons of these currencies , but they are different. But Moni can easily compete with each other.

At the moment I see there are too many people already compared to bitcoin and ethereum and most of the people say ethereum is the second coin after bitcoin. You can be compared ethereum to bitcoin because both coin is very popular in this cryptocurrency world but bitcoin price and ethereum price are different so long. If you think it will be more valuable and ethereum can touch bitcoin price? I think it is not possible at the moment.

Yes,  and maybe in future we may have some coins coming up that may replace that position.  I think ethereum and ripple has compete sometimes last year on the market capitalization and that means ripple and ethereum are the two major cryptocurrencies that may be next to bitcoin in future.

How can you compare too absolutely different projects? It is like comparing gold and silver. Bitcoin and ethereum has different technological base. The fact that Bitcoin and Ethereum have first and second place in coinmarketcap don't give a right to compare them.

I don't think that there is any need to compare these two coins. they are absolutely different except for the fact that they have the largest capitalization volumes. Why does everyone try to compare them?

As being the first cyptocurrency bitcoin has always a unique and good position in the market. Currently both of them are leading the market. That's correct, Ethereum is the number two digital coin that can be compared to Bitcoin. Though they have their own features, these two coins are the very foundation of Digital Currency. even when you install a wallet on your mobile phone. there are only two major coins that you will see first. and It's Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Even though this is like you said at the moment, ETH should not be so tight in comparison with BTC if you ask me. ETH has a totally different platform with many cool tools which BTC could not provide. It was the first serious platform with programmable tokens, multi-sig is great as well. On the other hand, as the market is not very big and ETH does not have the biggest influence out there, it is okay to have some kind of currency that can be like an older brother to it. ETH will have to grow up and live by itself eventually, but this will take some time at first  :).

There is no doubt about that. If there is an altcoin that can give bitcoin a better competition then Ethereum is the closest. Even though I doubt if it will ever catch up with bitcoin but if an altcoin stands that chance then I will point at ETH.

I think that bitcoin and etherum work like gold and fiat, bitcoin has a high value and worth holding to make profit similar to gold and ethereum has many practical uses like fiat, the development that has been made in the ethereum and tthe number of interesting projects that it supports proves that ethereum is probably the best cryptocurrency to invest in after the bitcoin, because I think that ethereum might become the currency of tomorrow.

These are two completely different crypto-currencies, this is just like comparing the dollar and the Japanese JPY, the essence is one, and the result is different.

Ethereum is a very good coin with some great features. After bitcoin, if you want to mention another coin's name then most of the answer will be the Ethereum. It is not, closest to bitcoin is litecoin, ethereum isn't coin at all it is platform. Many newbies here can't see big difference between ethereum and bitcoin, while idea behind bitcoin is payment method to avoid banking system, idea behind ethereum is smart contract, without ICO's ethereum will die.

Ether is a very good coin but the creators of ethereum doesn't create ethereum to compete or to be compared with bitcoin, they build ethereum for smart contract, so the both coins serves their individual needs.

For me, yes it is. In my own perspective, ethereum is the 2nd most valuable coin that is next to bitcoin. As we can see ethereum also had the capabilities to multiply your money.
