Title: Could A Severe "Attack" On Bitcoin Possibly Be A Good Thing???
Post by: gigabytecoin on March 19, 2011, 10:01:41 AM
"The people" generally do not like governments and/or other powerful entities interfering in free markets.

If anybody did attempt to gain more than 50% computing/node power of the network in order to sabotage it... (meaning it was a significant game changing idea).

A headline like that could make the new york times.

Of course, if some organized trolling group decided to do it for shits and giggles in our infancy, we'd kinda' be out of luck.

there is no such thing as bad publicity

Exactly what I was thinking.

It could be a great "call to action" for everybody to join forces with bitcoin and run their generator client 24/7.

I'd rather have secure bitcoins than a headline.

Wow.  Are you seeing the world through Hayek-spectacles? :-\

I'm worried people (possibly myself) would think "if it happened once it can happen again, or worse" which is somewhat true. Calling something safe / uncrackable / unsinkable / whatever is always asking for trouble. With that being said I'd prefer btc to something that is just straight out manipulated like the USD  :D
