I'm trying to think what it could be and I'm honestly coming up with nothing at all.

They are looking for C++, Crypto, JavaScript, designer. Something with data visualization. The application will be accessible in a web browser, some software product.  This is what I figured out..

Jed McCaleb's eDonkey, MtGox, and Ripple were all designed to be profit-based ventures under the corporate model. I can understand why his new on is under tight wraps. All of these faced an over-restrictive regulatory environment. Rather than generating revenue from ads and transaction fees, we need more people treating cryptocurrencies like stock and adding value by creating more utility and liquidity. Given that this new project is Bitcoin related, what is really needed is a complete all-in-one ATM/POS/Securities machine using something like Ethereum and Colored Coin.

Probably the reason why ripple will be obsolete soon.

Gotta be sneaky about these things though ;) Could something similar to ripple not be built into bitcoin. Sorry if thats a silly question I dont really understand how ripple works.

I don't understand it either, but I think that as long as a digital project needs a solution for double spending it can be built into bitcoin.
It is the safest network to rely on, I think.

The MtGox creator never loss any Bitcoin. He sold MtGox years before it happen.

What are you even talking about. Jed has started and ran several high profile ventures and bankrupting gox was not one of them.

That means, transaction are decentralized but the website is not.

but seriously tho.  i wonder what jed's project could bring in and innovate in the crypto currency scene.  i mean we already have btc and all the other altcoins.  we already got decentralized and distributed exchanges in nxt and ripple.  ethereum and its scripting language and smart contracts are coming. and ripple is developing smart contracts too.  

what is this idea of his that would blow the crypto currency community away?

If Gox hadn't have failed we'd still be in the thousands!  All it takes is one bad apple to set us back several years and draw a bunch of unnecessary government (nanny) attention.  I hope justice is done when this Broke Back Mount Gox thing is adjudicated.

So the secret project was another coin or what was it? I mean wow, I thought we'd be remaining in the Bitcoin ecosystem here. And altcoins don't exactly have the best reputation...

It's not quite just an "altcoin" if you read the full description of all the features.  It's more of a platform for every currency to exist in harmoniously.

I am pretty sure that it is widely believed that the market cap of all of the alts take away from the market cap of bitcoin so I really do not see how this would ultimately be possible?

I agree. This isn't really a Bitcoin discussion, since it involves the creation of yet another altcoin.

SO many decentralized exchanges and platforms under development. This is pretty good news. Everything will be decentralized in the future...including the government. Let's do this.

Obviously no, since there's a centralized server (running in hetzner.de the last time I checked out) and there's a centralized reputation system which provides "trust" (running in the same server). Person to Person btc exchange is a nice a idea, but needs proper decentralization. LBC provides a centralized feedback system, but users should really only use this for determining how likely it is that someone will show up to a trade. The same with listings.

When dealing with users via LBC, you should take the same precautions regardless of their feedback. It would be very difficult to create a marketplace that is truly decentralized in all aspects.

I guess it's also centralised escrow. P2P but centralised I guess is how you would define it.

A truly decentralised localbitcoins would be interesting. How the escrow would be handled would be an issue though I think.

If Stellar is anything like Ripple it will be more like being able to move funds from gateway to gateway. Not really anything like what I just mentioned unfortunately.
