Title: Efficent GPU cooling ?
Post by: igotek on July 13, 2018, 10:01:39 AM

There is a plastic around the fans on the GPU.
is it any effect on the cooling if we remove the plastic part around the fans ?

the another question:
if we put the gpus stick together and add fans backward and in fornt on them.
Which fans will blow air to the gpus, whivh ones will be used as exaust fans ?

The plastic housing is designed to channel or direct the airflow onto the GPU cooler and through the fins. With regards to mounting  fans front or back it depends how you mount the (direction). you should not mount them blowing against each other. Mount on the back blowing forward and on the front sucking forward. That is what I did because of a big box around my rig. But if you have an open rig it is best to just mount some fans behind blowing air through your stack of GPUs.

remove the plastic and you will see what happens. I bet you will get higher temps

Of course that will happen, unless he will have the rig in a closed box with secondary fans for in and out take..

Just use some high CFM box fans near you rig to quickly get the hot air out of the mining room and you should be good to go. I myself just DIY watercooled my cards with double radiator setup and placed the radiators outside for max cooling ;)

These are new cards?
I think that wouldn't affect too much. But removing it will be better.  :D

Most of the GPUs will throw hot air to the sides near the card's bracket, so exhaust fans must be placed on that side. Then blower fans on the other side.
