Title: NXT ??
Post by: BitcoinSteve on February 15, 2014, 03:29:28 AM
Anyone think this is the future?

Yes.

This week is the perfect example of why:

Centralized exchanges (Mt Gox etc.) fail/cheat/scam over and over and over and over and over again.
Centralized asset exchanges (Silkroad, Blacksheepmarket, Silkroad 2.0 etc.) fail/scam/cheat over and over again.
This will always happen when you introduce a third party. In NXT with it's decentralized asset exchange built into the protocol this problem is voided.

NXT's confirmation time is also a huge plus.

Possibly.  Several competitors working on second layer protocol stuff.  I'm investing in all of them.  nxt seems to have a hell of a following and there are a lot of things coming online in the next week.

Brain-Wallet means NOT centralized. And yes it seams to be, that Nxt will take the lead.

dgex.com the interface is kind of shitty and being updated, but the crew behind the site launched a very userfriendly client the other day so expect the exchange to get a nice make over soon, but it is 100% functional and operational. Probably the most active exchange.

1000 nxt good to start with?

All depends on what you got.
I think 1000 NXT is very little, even though I can imagine a not too distant future where NXT is worth .50 and even 1 dollar I think you'll regret only investing chump change.

500 billion dollars?

Nxt will never be worth that much. if NXT reaches $10, i'll be a very wealthy and happy man.

This is all speculation, but sometimes speculation is fun.

Extreme case

A really really amazing scenario for NXT - Something fatal happens with bitcoin security, in turn making 95% of alt-currencies useless, in that certain case Nxt will rise to a handsome $50-100 USD per NXT overnight. A $500 usd will only be obtained if NXT achieved if it has obtained complete dominance in the digital currency space, worldwide, within the next 10 years or less.

500 Billion dollars is a ridiculous amount of cash.

More reasonable

A $10 Next could happen by the end of this year. But it really really depends on how good and efficient the development and marketing team are.
A more probable occurrence for NXT would be $1 dollar by the end of 2014. That would make it a 1,000,000,000 Dollar market cap, 2X as much as litecoin is right now.

NXT could totally do it, There is so much development that can happen. Nxt is hot right now, but it could be done right bloody sexy with all new features added and an amazing client. It could be a gorgeous, sophisticated and yet simple for everyday people at the same time.

Anyways, There is an army supporting NXT right now. It's probably my favorite out of all Crypto currencies.

I have so much invested stake in a lot of currencies, not just NXT.

Currently i have around 50,000 NXT.
I was not lucky enough to get a nice share during the initial phase of it, i got into NXT before the gigantic first spike.

I acquire thousands on a weekly basis.

I haven't bought any today, so no. I did buy some in the bull trap of the first spike.

I got the majority of my NXT around 4000-5000 satoshi, when it looked like to many it was dying.

I will be buying NXT within the next few days, i'm just keeping an eye out on the current markets. It took a significant and steady increase today.

ok Im sold how do I get a wallet? Im running windows 7, anyone please help? thanks

There is a helpful guide for downloading the client NXT here:

WINDOWS: https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,2041.0.html
MAC: https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,708.0.html

Just follow those instructions and you should be good.

Some basic newbie notes:

1) Update to the latest version of Java.

2)
When creating your wallet, or opening it the first time. Create a Long random password, full of Lowercase, uppercase, numbers and symbols. This is how you protect your account

JUST AN EXAMPLE PASSWORD DO NOT USE THIS:

Jh^k*@(*&#...<<AS<M*@H21354AS5423lkdasjdkj><DS>S<()*93084-09a)*()&*(#u43k4nkj>>>><AS><

Something chaotic like that, the point is to not know your password. Save it to a txt file and put it on a USB stick. Encrypt that TXT FILE.

NXT is a baby, it's still in ALPHA.

Here is a really simple step-by-step guide:

1) Download that Zip on the forums

2) Create a txt file copy and paste this --->            "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -jar start.jar

3) Save txt file.

4) Rename the txt file extention to .bat

5) Place that file in nxt folder. And launch that file you made

6) After it says "succesfully launched" go to --->     https://127.0.0.1:7875/   in your web browser

Alright, txt file in notepad correct.

Now you have a file on your desktop. Now you need to edit the extention of that file.

1) Open up explorer

2) Menu Bar > Tools > Folder Options > VIEW > UNCLICK the box "Hide Extentions for known types"

3) Save

Now you should see a .txt on that file you made

Rename it .bat

First time i've tried out the asset exchange and that wallet.

It is super fluid and hot. This is NXT that i dream of, and so many other features they could add. Endless.

I really think NXT is the future when it comes to Cryptos, they are ahead of everyone else by miles. And it just launched 4 months ago.. amazing.

The Next-Generation-Coins (NXT, Emunie, Ethereum, and OF COURSE NEM (when it will starts)) are definitively the future. This was just the first big bit coin-bug which pushed the price down!!

NXT could be overtaken by a competitor such as NEM with a better initial distribution as this will attract a wider following more quickly.

NXT is a great idea, great code, great devs, so is ripple, both suffer from volume due to this lock poor distribution out feature.

Tenebrix suffered from this, and look what LTC did to that will a better launch by distribution.

Doge is the opposite to this it reaches a large market.

Tenebrix suffered from this, and look what LTC did to that will a better launch by distribution.

Doge is the opposite to this it reaches a large market.

Abso-fucking-lutely never.
The vast, vast , vast majority of NEM accounts are sockpuppets owned by 1% It has worse distribution than NXT and UtopianFuture refused to do shit about it.

I don't mind NEM at all, infact I own a single stake in it (because I followed the rules), but NXT is the future.

Why are you telling us such lies about NEM. Do you know utopianfuture? Do you know about NEM enough to judge about the future of that coin?
I thought i'd find a fair discussion based on facts.

No offense Schwarzalbert, but you don't know what you are talking about.  NEM's distribution is poor because people didn't follow the rules.  Uniqueorn is correct.

if the sockppupet issue is to large enough then mathematically hem would have a worse distribution than NXT. A casual glance at the numbers involve would about 72 members for NXT of who a % could be sock puppets.

in nem there are...1200 and you can see duplicates have been detected, proptionaly even if there are more sockpupets in NEM, absolutely this would still leave more founders coins in more hands.....

any how its seem 1200 would be more distributed that 72.....

I think a cut of date by registration is a good solution.

Also why did nxt stop its buy in prematurely?

A really really amazing scenario for NXT - Something fatal happens with bitcoin security,

lol, except NXT is provably less secure than the various alterations of Bitcoin protocol, so the exact opposite scenario is more likely to happen.

Maybe both are "secure enough" and this problem is irrelevant, we will see.

No one really knows except for BCNext.  It's my opinion that it was ended because BCNext knew that if he left it open longer there was a higher chance of multiple stakes belonging to one person.  It's my belief that very few, if any, Nxt stakeholders had multiple stakes.  Remember, few people were interested in Nxt at that time.

So correct me if I am wrong in understanding this. Found Here (http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Nxt_Wiki)73 original stakehodlers got together and built a "coin" and mined all of them. In order to impose a value on them they are giving them away to many future wallet hodlers. 73 original stakehodlers control more than 51% of a POS only coin? Sounds like ORB with a fancier name. Although with ORB you may get to hold 33% of them after they have been mined long enough. With NXT the only coins that are being traded are the ones that they intentionally let go of, meandering between more and more wallet hodlers until they finally get set free on an exchange.
The point is that when a centralized authority creates a device on which to exchange a value, the centralized authority tends to hold most of the devices(fiat, XRP, ORB, NXT).

Nxt isn't a proof-of-work currency, so you can't mine it.  All Nxt is currently in existence.  The more Nxt you hold the more transaction fees you collect.  Nxt is a pure proof-of-stake system.  It's not like Orb.

well thats not completely  true.

See before nxt, and even that thread, some release  beta of nxt almost exactly as it was and I downloaded it an tried it, then they said nope not doing this. It's in the threads here it was july to Aug last year. I tangentially heard about nxt but was away during the fund raise, due to other reasons, but it was cut short.

I don't think it was the sockpupets coming from the outside at that loin, it must have been a dilution issue decision.

Also what happened to bcnext and when did he leave and who was Come from Beyond attracted to be come core dev?

The founders control over 51% of a POS coin. Sounds like centralization to me. The video they have on Vimeo, is clearly made by a 10 year old without proper spelling checks and they obviously did not want you to hear their voice.

Lol that's so much bullshit in one post...

Try to point out where I am wrong, show proof!

Burden of proof is on the person making the claim, not those challenging it.

It is obvious that no one has any way of answering truthfully to my comments, so I deleted them. Carry on with your PONZI PYRAMID SCAM COIN. The value of 21BTC is a made up number to imply a value, that is why the "IPO" was not publicized.

I wasn't actually defending nor criticising your points. I was simply suggesting you back up your claims with sources.

The huge centralisation issues caused by some stakeholders holding an extremely large amount of NXT is a rather big concern. Other than that I know very little about NXT.
