Title: If Bitcoin Spikes, Will Smaller Alts Go Lower?
Post by: paramind22 on July 15, 2018, 02:45:53 AM
From my memory, every time when Bitcoin went up, many of the altcoins went down because people wanted to climb on the Bitcoin rise.  What do you think?

I have different view on this actually when bitcoin pumps the majority movement of alternative coins also goes up and vice versa. Most of the altcoins now are very dependent to bitcoin that is why when there is huge movement happen to bitcoin alternative coin follows.

It seems so. So this is according to experience, if
BTC up ALT down
BTC down ALT down
BTC stable ALT rise.

That is the reason why im buying alts pegged to btc. Just in case bitcoin soar high and alts will be left behind atleast the value of my money is more or less the same.

I think you are wrong as you can see the current market stat which is against your opinion Bitcoin is low and also all altcoin are at the bottom and when Bitcoin will start rising all other good altcoin will also go up.

Nope, at the current market movements all altcoins follow the bitcoin price movement. Probably we need the traditional exchanges if we want to see a different market reaction in crypto

As what ive observed in the market, if bitcoin spikes some altcoins will also follow bitcoin. Just like what happen last year when bitcoin hits $10+k some altcoins gets high in price too  and now when bitcoin is down we've got also color red in the market. So i assumed that some altcoins always follow bitcoins price.

You are right OP, but that is only a thing to consider. There are so many ways that are happening in the market that you also need to check on like if the btc price rises, the total marketcap rises, the alts might bleed when people ride onto btc but as marketcap get's higher, more money and investors are also looking for profits and time to get in to alts.

That is not the case usually if BTC moons then almost all of the altcoin in the market goes up. As BTC is the has the most volume and the most traded cryptocurrency in the market if its prices moons then it will be the same for most of them. That is why if BTC is down so does most altcoins and only few of them moons.

It will but basically it's so easy to determine the altcoin vs bitcoin movements. You can see that if the bitcoin dominance will increase and that means the more people are liquidating their money to the bitcoin and it has been getting decrease and otherwise, people are converting their bitcoin to alts.

I think when bitcoin grows we are growing and all the altcoins. If it falls, so falls all the same. The price of altcoins depends on bitcoin.

What you are saying is exactly the opposite of what will happen.when Bitcoin rises all altcoins rise and when BTC goes down and everything goes down the dump

It is a simple arithmetic. I personally seen an witnessed the rise and fall of bitcoin price for some months now. Its prices has a huge effect on alternate coins. Because its said what is good for the goose is good for the gander, so which whichever news that affects the body cryptocurrency also have effect on the other currencies.

In fact, this does not always happen. In most cases, bitcoin and altcoin prices move in the same direction. Bitcoin sets the movement for all crypto currencies.

yeah, that's true but in some occasions i think that they can grow up both, a lot of people here just want to increment the quantity of btc that they have, so the try to follow the pumps of btc for do that.

Title: Re: If Bitcoin Spikes, Will Smaller Alts Go Lower?

usually before Bitcoin spikes, everything will get pumped first and then pushed by Bitcoin when it makes a move.
but if that thing does not happen,
more likely both of them will get a gain, because right now everything is heavily undervalued because of Bitcoin.
so i assume when Bitcoin spikes, everything will get a little pump from it and will get another one when Bitcoin declines.
until it reachs its support or at least break its resistence,it will keep doing that.

I think we had a different observation regarding Bitcoin and altcoins with respect to pumping of price, mostly if Bitcoin increase it's value in the market, some altcoins will follow, especially those having a good project development and the rest is depending on the demand.

At the moment most coins go up and down together, if bitcoin spikes in the following days altcoins will spike too. It is now all up to the move of btc.

If Bitcoin goes up, you can expect most altcoins to go up with it. This is due to the amount of money in the market. The more money in the market, the more all coins will be worth. You can keep an eye on the current market cap and watch how it affects the price of all of the coins.

I've been watching it so many times in Coin market cap every time there is a spike in bitcoin price and me prove to it that altcoins also are following the footstep of the bitcoin and vice versa to the downswing of it.

The pumping that occurs in Bitcoin will be followed strongly by all altcoins, so Bitcoin plays a major role in the market of all movements depending on the condition of Bitcoin itself, people not only go for Bitcoin but for their altcoin because when Bitcoin rises there is hope and thought positive for a good market, everyone goes in and pumps it all up, and if Bitcoin is not good then vice versa and wait in turn, try to hold and buy at the lowest price.

It really depends because there was a time when when bitcoin increases, most of the altcoins increases too. So there is no assuran e if bitcoin does spikes up, smaller valued altcoins go down too.

Actually altcoins picks rally with the Bitcoin check history on coinmarkecap take example of ripple and DGB. If the altcoin is strong and have some useful product or some promising upcoming product & if their community is strong then they can easily pick up the rally with the Bitcoin. Last year there were cases of some altcoins which got down because their team abandoned the project or because the cases of theft of funds.

That may change, increase in bitcoin's price bring about altcoins' increase now but if it rise a lot in a short time that may have negative effect on alts.

bitcoin dominate the market. If BTC goes up, some altcoins goes up following BTC, some of coins might fall. But if bitcoin falls, no doubt every coin falls too.

Probably. There is a very good chance that can happen. Because when bitcoin spikes everyone who is looking to make a profit seel their alts and buy bitcoin. Due to this Alts crash and bitcoin soars. But the same is the case once bitcoin bull run ends. People sell bitcoin a and buyback alts. And another advantage of this is you end up selling high and buying a lot more at a lower price.

Title: Re: If Bitcoin Spikes, Will Smaller Alts Go Lower?

I think that is just part of the truth but not the whole truth because there are also certain situation that during the all time high of bitcoin it suddenly crash the reason is not because of people are switching from altcoins to bitcoin but rather the fud is starting pulling bitcoin down. And not just that, I believe that the too much price of bitcoin harden the people to have opportunity to invest in it due to the more higher price it is the more risky the situation of the investors.

I don't see it from that angle, rather when Bitcoin rises many of the altcoins also rise. You will agree with me that Bitcoin is the determinant coin for the market and so it's movement generally affect the movement of the altcoins.

From what I have observed is that if Bitcoins price goes up altcoins goes up with the increase in the rate of bitcoins so I disagree with your current statement.

Altcoins just goes with bitcoins, at least from what I have observed.

Those who try to speculate on the top gainers in CMC, I think become less speculative and stop chasing the microcaps.  I meant smaller coins, which are usually the ones you see with the double digit percent gains over 30%.   That's why some agree and some don't.

I think rising of the bitcoin is the most waiting thing in the whole crypto world. I think the prices of athe altcoins would have a good rising with the rising of bitcoin.

I think it's different in my belief because as far as I know when bitcoin going higher more of coins in bitcoin is following to  go higher too because some coins is relying to bitcoin.

This happened before but not anymore on these days, when bitcoin goes up alts are also pushing themselves up. And when bitcoin was down, alts are pulling themselves down too.

Buy low and sell high isn't only for fiat to BTC. It's a gamble of course, but if you sell an alt right now and tomorrow BTC surges, people typically panic sell for BTC growth gains and alt prices dip hard, so you can buy back for a stronger position. Of course, the alt could grow and you could miss out on those gains. There is a risk but it's a strategy that has worked well for me at times.

If bitcoin spikes usually ethereum spikes too ( if the apikes factor is from fresh money flow in ) but if the money is only move from altcoin to bitcoin and no fresh money flow in it will not spikes. And if ethereum also spikes small legit altcoin will probably do the same thing( spikes againts dollar / fiat ).

I agree as we know that people has a FOMO mentality, if the bitcoin will be having a rally they will sell their alts and take a ride on the rally of bitcoin. This scenario will let the altcoins dumps with no buyers and bitcoin will make a good rally with those FOMO buyers that makes it spike.

For me, I believe when bitcoin spikes up, then other smaller altcoins will also rise because most of their prices are controlled by what ever happens to the price of bitcoin and sometimes, some of them even do better without bitcoin.

It's not exactly what you think. Altcoins always following with bitcoin price, the only reason why altcoins could fall is selling them to buy more bitcoin, but if it works, whales would have to sell a huge amount of altos

If I think the current market movement is all Altcoin follow Bitcoin price movement. Maybe we need a traditional exchange if we want to see different market reactions in cryptocurrancy. I strongly believe when Bitcoin increases, the other smaller Altcoin will also increase due to the fact that some of them we see.

Bitcoin is the influencer to the altcoin when it goes up everyone goes up. This is a very good timing for all investor out there. My coin was just sleeping to the exchange, I will sell it at the right time.

Well we've all seen how the market turned green when btc moved past 6.5k which has been a resistance for quite some time. I think most of the time that's the case because the crypto market right now is mostly associated with bitcoin

I think yes, the first reaction of altcoins is to drop after a bitcoin spike. But yesterday, bitcoin rose and the alts rose with it. So it won't always follow this pattern. During the bull markets back in december and january, alts were running wild even without btc rising.

No,

It might be a very small knee jerk reaction, but the market due to immaturity moves together with btc.
It will rise together, ofc shitcoins will suffer.

With the current trend back tracking from the previous months of this year. It seems that the market follows the patter of Bitcoin. you can see an identical pattern across the market and chart almost matches bitcoins price. And the current pump shows it again. This might be investor buying altcoins and liquidating ptofits to fiat.

When the price of bitcoin is increasing a lot and then the price of altcoin will be following it (USD terms) It will not likely to jump a lot on the bitcoin price because in fact the bitcoin is so strong to the altcoin right now. As you can see that about how the more people are seeing it as the depresiation of altcoin in bitcoin value.
