Title: BITCOINTALK (BTALK) Tokens? || Wait what??
Post by: legendster on July 15, 2018, 10:48:36 AM
Well that was my reaction when I found out that one of my inactive wallets have 10k BTALK coins.

A simple google search lead me to this contract page :
https://etherscan.io/token/0xfc3dd0b1808ed23ab7f1657264dd6c9d0cb38782

Now I seriously wonder who is behind this idea? Is this actually going to be a part of that "reward for Merit" gimmick that Theymos was talking about?

Anyone can create any token under using any name LOL
I can pay someone to create token named mdayonliner or legendster and they can do it in no time. Don't get too excited or too confused  :P

I KNOW that my friend. Neither am I excited nor fooled. The question / point was - there WAS a talk of awarding merit earners with money. Now I haven't even tried to earn meit so it doesn't even apply to me, but it'd be cool to know if it actually has any link to that talk.

It is a no brainer that if Theymos did anything like a BTALK token then he'd make it official and would rather ASK people to submit their wallet addresses instead of backdoor dropping shit coins like these.

I am more curious to find out who did it and whether that "talk" actually headed anywhere.

Linking merit to any form of financial gain would be a disaster.

If the forum wants to reward forum activities such as moderation, then they should, and probably do, reward these activities directly with Bitcoin payments.

I realize where you are coming from however I do not think theymos will prefer to market an ALTcoin which has been developed in ERC20 platform while the sole purpose of this forum is to spread the news for Bitcoin.

Besides like Jet Cash said, financial gain would be a disaster anyway. I can't even think about it.

Micro payments in Bitcoin is not even a thing any more. Its just not feasible.

I personally do not think that this is such a bad idea, I mean if you have the people that are generating good content for you - content that in turn is attracting a lot of eyeballs, then those people should (and take it with a pinch of salt) be rewarded for their efforts.

Just my opinion.

Currently priced at .006505$ per coin in coinmarketcap (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/btctalkcoin/) with a ATH of .018$ per coin I don't think we need to be serious with this one as even the developers openly admitted that this coin was created just for fun and does not really discussed any kind of value or use at all. Tokens that are generally created for without any point and distributed for free always ends up being a worthless coin. Thinking about this cryptocurrency will be used in any kind of transaction seems to be impossible as they won't even consider this as their first choice when transacting in BCT or even outside of the forum. I honestly didn't knew a token like this existed until now.

Looks like this is a different token called BTCtalkcoin (TALK). OP is talking about BTALK, similar name but totally different token :)

It looks like this coin is very active, I see a lot of transfers being carried recently and people seem to use it but I don't see it listed on any exchanges so, it's value is 0.

Maybe theymos is indeed implementing a new token for this forum to use as payment. I don't see why somebody else would create it, but maybe that's just my logic.

I really doubt its even a Theymos project. If it was it'd be public knowledge by now.
Could be a practice project.

How could you not know if you have received this garbage token? stop dreaming about getting paid for receiving merits, theymos said something to encourage people on earning merits by constructive posts. this topic now turned out to be advertising for this token.

OK, so somebody just had some fun with it.

I still see transactions with tokens so, people seem to be excited to get 1mil tokens worth nothing :)

It is and will always be.

I found the token a few weeks back in my ethereum wallet and was not surprised. There are hundreds of shitcoin airdrops happening in the forum and shitposters go around the altcoin section spamming for them with bent knees and open palms to receive these shittokens (Thats a whole lot of shit).

Anyway this idea was conceived by a bunch of people here when merit was first introduced. Not going to lie - be cautious before buying/selling this token on any exchange. Lets not have any newbies fall prey of PnD schemes.

This token will never get listed on any exchange as it was founded by a nobody (no offense) and has no purpose or team behind it.
And anyone can get this token for free though just send that 0 eth transaction to the contract address. But not sure why anyone would want this coin in the first place since its not even affiliated with the forum.

While I do think it's only a matter of time before some sort of forum token makes an appearance, the idea of it being on the Ethereum blockchain is a bit humorous.

Correct! the idea is not unique as you know very well that its been tossed around a few times. Remember Terracoin? - Exactly! No one does. I think if such a "forum-coin" were to make an appearance, it would be very forgettable as it's audience would be a very select niche in the whole ecosystem.
