Ethereum (ETH) Gas Prices Return to Normal, After Suspected Intentional Network Overload

The Ethereum (ETH) network faced heavy congestion over the weekend, leading some to suspect a concerted effort at launching spam transactions. Over the weekend, gas prices reached above 200 GWei for higher speeds

From my experience last week ETH network was horribly overloaded, transactions with 41 GWEI took really long to proceed and some of them were simply dropped.

Because the list scheme of Fcoin exchange ended today, the blockage congestion problem of ETH was solved.
The reason why GAS rose sharply in the last few days is that many projects send small amounts of tokens to different Fcoin accounts in large quantities.

A nightmare. Yesterday I waited about 6 hours for my transaction to be confirmed and I already started to get nervous (this usually takes 20-30 minutes). And how can you say after this that the Ethereum network is the most promising? It is better to do the trasfer through Litecoin or something else ...

The congestion on the Ethereum network was suspected to be orchestrated by EOS even though this can not be substantiated. By it was a horrid experience yesterday as transactions with lower gwei were delayed for long hours. Such things shouldn't be happening in the crypto world in my honest opinion.

There was a news that accused EOS was behind all of the scenario to make the ethereum network becomes overloaded. A lot of new contract has been created and it has been used to spamming the network with so many transactions that put hundreds gwei for every transaction.

this was not a spam attack, don't flatter yourself :D
this was simply a small increase in number of transactions which ethereum network failed to handle like it always does. it is starting to happen so often these days specially when there is some big ICO running or some of these silly smart contracts like the kitties are gaining momentum. ETH is not designed to handle large number of transactions.

That's good news. Was trying to make some transactions the other day, and there was an issue cos of the increase in gas price. It feels good to have it back to normal. Also, people were already speculating of how it could be a bad sign for the coin. People need to have more faith in this coin.

That's twice now within a space of three weeks that Ethereum network is reported to be congested. I think I will put the blame on suspicious Airdrops with no projects to back it up as the culprit. Anyway, good the network is decongested now.

I thought that EOS tokens already migrated to its own blockchain from ERC20?
If yes, how EOS could affect Ethereum network?

Yeah thanks god the eth gas station is back to normal. Because last transaction i made cost almost 1$(100gwie std). And if you wont reach the std your transact might be fail or pending for a long period

This problem took too long time. Ethereum Gas levels are now very affordable.
Ethereum has relaxed anymore and is now entering a beautiful rise process.

this news is very satisfying from some days the users were facing lots of issues regarding their transaction, it was taking lots of time so it is definitely a positive news that things are getting back to normal, I hope that the users will keep support it as they are doing now and will have faith that it will better in the future

LOL. I was really worry about that when I had to wait hours but my transaction still pending although I set Gas very high. :D. But yesterday everything was find again when I just need to pay about 0.00014 ETH for transaction fee on ETH and everything was very quickly. Few days ago, there are so many guys didn't believe in ETH future anymore just because of this situation but seem like they've to change their mind now :D

Main problem is with ETH network, they know this congestion problem in the network for years but they haven't done anything to solve this till now and many still keep supporting ETH over bitcoin claiming it doesn't have scalibility issue like bitcoin  ;D

Will NEO gonna surpass ETH in smart contract market? There are few more competitors for ETH so ethereum foundation have to come up with some solution for such congestion.

This is really good news because eth users are suffering for this based on this problem is solved I think also because of lack of projects of small types of projects are related with this pricing method.

Very strange, the Ethernet network was still very congested a few days ago, and it was a long time of congestion. I didn't expect it to drop quickly, and there was no rebound. I did not encounter such a situation that I came so fast and went fast.

This is a sign of relief  its has been very terrible transacting eth mainly in MEW and there are many complains on the distribution of tokens arising from the congestion of the network and high gas prices thus resulting to the suspension of distributions of tokens in past weeks ago of an ICO. I hope a lasting solutions should deployed to this problem to avoid future occurrence.

I suppose we all can take a sigh of relief. It was taking a long time to do transactions few days ago but this isn't the first time I'm hearing about congestion on eth network. hopefully they'll do something about it.

Usually when the price of Bitcoin rises ethereum gas also rises. But with the decline in gas prices, it becomes our advantage to have tokens. The right time to sell the Tokens we have.

hopefully back to its normal GAS is no impact of the decline in the time of block confirmation in verifying every transaction made so it does not take long to get to the wallet address in the direction.

I agree partially. I still remember how messed up the network was due to the kitty game which was seriously irritating. Such stuff tends to happen now and then as you said, but I do not agree with the statement that ETH is not designed to handle large number of transactions. On the contrary, Bitcoin faced problems in this department while Ethereum performed in a better manner in this aspect. Ethereum network will continue improving with regards to these problems with time.

Fortunately, the Internet cost of the Ethernet in these days is normal, otherwise I can not participate in the investment. When the price is high, you can't trade at all, because you need to transfer several times each time, especially between different exchanges, so you need to spend a lot of dollars.

Title: Re: Ethereum Gas Prices Return to Normal, After Intentional Network Overload
Post by: leea-1334 on July 19, 2018, 06:57:54 AM
I do not think anything was intentional. At least, as far as I always remember, whenever there are new popular games or apps, then we see a temporary increase in transactions and hence gas price,,, after that everything goes down to normal. I read also that it is caused by new exchanges doing "transaction mining" and also coin voting for new listing. You have to vote with sending ETH and it has to be above certain gas price, so of course people want to vote with 100 ETH accounts. So much abuse, all to create artificial volume.

Ethereum network blocking is a terrible thing, but no one knows what causes it to block. For me, the sooner this problem is discovered and solved, it is a good thing. It will be more perfect in the future.

This is good news as many of us has paid high fees for transactions for some days now and  this has affected ethereum price recently because I expect ethereum to go as high as $600 base on the current cryptocurrencies' price pump.  Now we can now start to trade with normal  gas.

Typically when the network is overloaded it takes a little while to deal. Once the network is ready, it is possible to trade in normal time again. That happened to Ethereum.

Lol that's not affecting the price of ethereum. In fact that has been created by so many haters of ethereum that keeps spamming the network with a bunch of crap token contract to create any shitty transaction to increase the standard fees

The service fee of one transfer is even $5, which is too high. I hope the throughput of ETH can be improved.

In the previous days, a lot of the users had to go through hell in order to get their transactions done. But thankfully this has been fixed. This happened because the quantity of small projects and tokens increased leading to a strain in the system.

As we see ETH sometimes fails to have a load of a large number of transactions which leads to down in price levels as making un-interestingly the issue false positive. ETH should develop the technology that can make up all kind of situations. Rather, It is an interestingly growing altcoin system.

Ethereum used to have overloaded of transactions which used to hampers the transaction procedure. I'm happy that they are now working on this. Some people are still facing problem with it. But, it will gradually be developed.

it still IS a serious problem with ethereum network. nothing is solved. they keep promising to release this solution and that solution but in the end we see nothing and no development whatsoever.
at some point we have to accept that this is a fundamental problem with the design of this platform and nothing can fix it.

I am glad to hear it, I knew that the increase in gas prices were just temporary so I held back all of the transactions I wanted to make. It might have been a glitch in the system because even during the bull we did not have such a problem like this. It would also be due to someone manipulating the price of ethereum seeing as it did not follow the price of bitcoin as well as it always did.

Good news that it came to normal. The network was overloaded and for this the transaction went so slow that it became almost impossible to deal with. Many face a lot of problem. Good to hear that at last it came to normal.
Byzantium and the new structure of the transaction fees will be implemented on the next update. It will be solved a lot of problems and decrease the possibility of the network to be spammed with so many transactions.

The code still in the tested by the core developer of ethereum to make sure there will be no vulnerability. it will happen very soon i guess maybe at this month.

That s the eth problem. It alwsys takes place. Cryptokitties also major cause few months ago. I think that's why eth price now stagnant. New coins offer better cost fee like neo .etc and nxt. They also offer smart contract and token creation. Eth has too many competitors now. Holding lot of eth will not give much profit anyway.

Not sure what happens with Ethereum network last days, but transactions with GWEI lower than 41 have a chance to never start at all.  :(
Market is still quite inactive and I guess ICO tokens attract much less attention than previously, so what causes such a low ETH performance?
