also if btc there does go to $1 at gox do you just go and buy for the hell of it just in case

That would be right.. but u miss something.. after withdrawals are allowed mtgox will go up to bitstamp levels really fast.. no time for arbitrage is gonna be left.. and those who try will lose money.. because u cant transfer money out and in inmediatly. It takes a few days... ^^

That is a really stupid paranoid thought dude.. U are thinking like a fish.. He doesn't need to do that to earn money or whatever.. And even if mtgox lost btc he has thousand and weekly is earning Millions.. he can cover if he loses some btc.. which i think he didnt.. and going to sell "his" to bitstamp would be same than giving trading commisions to bitstamp.. This is by far the most stupid thought i've heard man.. And u should re-read the "arbitrage" concept.

If Bitcoins were indeed stolen from Gox (probably from Karpeles himself), then Gox crashing it's own exchange rate, buying up real Bitcoins and claiming arbitrage on Bitstamp would be the only chance that Gox had of balancing it's books. It is a near certainty in my opinion that this is happening at least to some extent.

just because some one has money does not stop them from wanting to make more

this would be mark only arbing while holding every ones else BTC and FIAT on his exchange essentially he is leveraging no only their coins, but the fact he has exclusive control over a lot of funds, and the markets attention.

him selling at a higher price and then buying more lower on his own exchange is the very definition of arbitrage.

Nothing, he's probably doing that though not on big range yet as gap is too big.

If Gox lost coins due to malleability stuff, it's perfect thing for them to gain those coins again.

Yep, Mark is stupid but not THAT stupid. Of course he's arb'ing the f*ck out of everything while he can. He may be slow at software-development but he's not slow at money making opportunity of life-time.

i agree this is likely happening. those dessert like coffee drinks don't pay for themselves.

Expect more delays and empty promises to come from MTGOX. That is their business.
