Title: How to use 2fa
Post by: OluwaTosin10 on July 19, 2018, 09:09:08 AM
After numerous hacking claims regarding exchange sites and Myetherwallet
I thought to advice everyone to simply put to use ImToken app to control their Myetherwallet account

Then activate 2fa for every exchange site; all you have to do is

Download the google Authenticator app
Go to security and Authenticator settings

The site will generate a key for you ( FHFE3529KL8 ) ; copy the key, go to your auth app, click on the + sign, select add key. Type the name of the site, scroll to the next line and paste the key generated. THEN SAVE

You'll be seeing 6  digits codes every 5min or so. Use the code to login to the site.

I'm also using Imtoken, I use it in parallel with Myetherwallet. I feel secure with it.
Imtoken is also a good option.

2FA is really useful in exchange site because even though they know your password or anything about your account / wallet they cant withdraw anything unless they can input the correct OTP pass of 2FA this is why it is a MUST in every exchange site you use.

Not everyone knows this, but lastpass also offers 2fa, which is better than google authenticator in my opinion

It is very vital to use 2fa for all exchanges website and other websites for secure use
But this is a very good outline regardless
Straight forward and steady

The procedures too is clear
I enjoy metamask though

thank you for your advice, I am still not much experience in trading and how to secure a hacker's account or wallet but with your advice I will be more careful and will use Two Factor Authentication in every exchange

But we need and have to ensure to protect all accounts

Make good use of ImToken and Myetherwallet
And observe you are always on the proper website

Two Factor Authentication

Also known as 2FA, two step verification or TFA (as an acronym), is an extra layer of security that is known as "multi factor authentication" that requires not only a password and username but also something that only, and only, that user has on them, i.e. a piece of information only they should know or have immediately to hand - such as a physical token.

Using a username and password together with a piece of information that only the user knows makes it harder for potential intruders to gain access and steal that person's personal data or identity.

2fa is important to use when you are creating exchanges account or even other account through internet to prevent thief that can access to your private property or private account. Using e.mail two factor authentication is one of the simplest way to secure your privacy and identity.

Good definition of the google authentication
Do ensure always to protect your secret key code just in case you lose your phone device

So you do not lose your account as well
Good luck

I have been reading that 2fa can be hacked and has issue.  Much better than not having it.  I would utilize all available options for security that your exchange offers.  The only thing I would not do it a KYC check and send my documents and identity to have hacked later down the road.

I do not agree with 2fa been hacked
except this is done by your close friends.

Another alternative hacking process is when you link to a fake API app.
that can be dangerous.

Yes it can linked
imtoken is an erc-20 tokens that allows you to add up over 2 eth wallet on a single app and you can control all operations on the app too ( which means you don't need to visit myetherwallet or metamask always )

download the imtoken app, import your details and set notifications on.
Thats all.

2FA is an imperative for security in the pre-encrypted market. When the legal and security systems are weak, perhaps 2FA will be a safe bet for investors' capital. But most importantly, human beings, if carelessness and human subjectivity lead to the opportunity for hackers to steal money and personal information.

I believe that two-factor authentication really helps to keep your savings safe, but you should understand that the exchange can be hacked and therefore it is also not the best way to protect your funds.

I appreciate the safety and privacy. Imtoken is the wallet on the phone. There are versions for iOS and Android.
In my opinion, you will not be bothered using it. You do not have to spend time importing UTC or using a prative key.
Also you can install TouchID for wallet.

Good to see that you share what you know and make this forum knowledgeable with 2FA. As per my knowledge 2FA is a very good security measure to make our accounts more safe and secured, the most secured feature as of now I can say and this has to be set to almost all your crypto related wallets and there are few other sites also has this feature and you can have this if you want your date to be secured.

but still google authentication is the best around and it ensures better 2fa security as well.
Hope we all prevent hacks and scam.

Absolutely this 2FA thing is a very helpful tool in protecting our wallet from hackers but as i have observed it is only used in centralized exchange. Why is it that they don't apply this on decentralized exchange? It would be a big boost to the security of our wallet if they apply this one.

Thank you for the explanation regarding on how to use the 2 factor authenticator. Surely it will be a great help in order to secure an account to not be able to be hack or scam. It is a security that is needed to activate for the account to be safe.

Two factor authentication is more for exchanges and yes, you should always activate them.  I don't think it's available for wallets but I could be wrong.  Bookmark Myetherwallet to be safe and there's a plugin called MetaCert which also helps with blocking phishing sites.

This is true! But be very careful with 2fa. Be sure to save the backup code or have the same 2fa on the other device.
Once I lost the phone on which I was 2fa and as a result I lost all the money on my wallet.
It is impossible to restore 2fa!

The reason i have adopted the idea of using 2FA is that, if you lost the device you used in creating it, you can restore it through your password. This is essential because of the incessant hacking of accounts on exchanges. Not exchanges alone, but also anything the needs security and enables the use of 2FA.

Securing the current 2-step authentication is important because there are many cases where hackers attack e-wallets and steal the full amount of cryptos. So you can use Google Authenticator or Authy to install 2fa for any of your e-wallets to be safe, avoiding the loss of cryptos.

I believe that 2FA is the best security development ever. It is a very simple system but as well is too effective and very easy to use. This system is really make feel the user in safe like an unbreakable system but it's not unbreakable. A hacker can change the device which connected to 2FA. In conclusion, do not leave your safety by relying on 2FA. Two-factor authentication cannot protect you from everything. No system is safe.

2FA is a safe way to make our wallet account safe, because to access the wallet we need 2FA that tersembung to smartphone we have to receive password while the number of password always change change every 60 second. Each exchange will have 2FA different, such as through sms, google aunthenticator, and gmail depending on the exchange you use.

Use and activated 2fa for all account exchanges, email and others account is very important to avoid hack.  And when use it remember to keep in safe  the 16 digit code,  so when our android loss and damage,  will be easy to recover it. The code of 2 fa is automactly changed in every 30 second make more difficult for hacker to get in to our account. I hope this 2 fa will be added for Myetherwallet and other personal wallet.

I think you get hacked too often. Perhaps once or twice you have entered data on phishing sites or simply have been not careful with your personal data, but 3 to 4 times, it raises suspicions that you have malware on your PC.

And if you have malware on your pc
You need to first of all clear wipe erase and re format your pc or simply restore factory settings for good functioning and then you can enjoy your 2fa setup

Be careful what 2fa app you download

Yeah, i think imToken can be a way to minimize the hacking in the future because myetherwallet doesnt have 2fa in default.
2fa is used to confirm every transaction you make. It will be safe unless someone know your private key or phished you.

you do not need to use this purse, you can, for example, a trezor. Protects better than any 2AF, except you can not manage a wallet. It is not very expensive, but safety. There are still other options - a purse on your device, without access to the network. I do not know which is better, I would recommend still using a cool wallet - trezor.

2fa means two factor authentication this means a lot in an account. Two factor authentication is very useful  because  it makes you feel comfortable on your account because some people can hacked  your account but by this two factor authentication code you are able to have free of mind on your account

You'll be seeing 6  digits codes every 5min or so. Use the code to login to the site.

It's not every five minutes, it's every 30 seconds. So the two-factor authentication app will generate a random password (6 digit code) in every 30 seconds to keep the process more secure.

You must save the original 2fa backup key so that you can restore/get access in case you lose your device or accidentally delete the app.

Glad to know that there is a way to activate 2 way authentication for MEW. I hate it when someone got hacked and I don't want it to happen to me. Those hackers should be in jail and paid for what they have done to others. It's very hard to earn money on crypto and they just stole from us. They will get what they deserve someday.

These are pretty useful tips. Among all the security features, I personally like 2FA a lot since it has helped me on multiple occasions when hackers tried hacking my funds etc which is why I like this feature the most when compared to other features like Metamask etc.

I always advise enabling 2FA when it comes to securing your funds anywhere in this vast crypto space since hackers are lurking everywhere and it is always a good idea to secure your funds in every way possible.

2FA is a pretty secure way to control access to any password protected sites, even if somebody else has the identifier for the same site they will generate a different number than you each time. Many exchanges are using this as a rule for access now.

Yes 2Fa is a very good way to preorderly protect your accounts
But take note

Always keep the security phrase safe
Else you lose access to your account

Please stay safe and maintain control over your accounts
