Title: feedtheprotest bitcoin resources
Post by: jancsika on October 06, 2011, 05:31:31 PM
There are at least a handful of early adopters who seem as interested in seeing Bitcoin succeed as they do making wads of cash in the short term.  Let's assume one of these people decided to donate half of their Bitcoins to the feedtheprotest people to encourage more widespread use.  If it were a large enough sum, that would certainly attract some initial (if short-lived) attention in the news.  The protesters would suddenly have a substantial amount of funds behind them, sent to them more easily than cash could be; additionally, the sender or any other Bitcoin guru could do some prep work to help the recipients set up their system securely and do proper backups, to show how its more secure than sending cash.

However, it would attract more prolonged attention if the recipients could use those Bitcoins directly to pay for at least some of the resources they need-- for example, I'm sure legal help is a concern.  Having those resources doesn't guarantee they would use them, but it's certainly easier to pay in Bitcoins than convert them to dollars first for a fee, as I'm sure everyone knows.

Anyway, if they got a big influx of funds, and continued to use at least part of them to pay directly for some of their needs, that would be an ongoing, positive news story about Bitcoin.  So what Bitcoin-friendly resources are there in NY that would be of special interest to the Wall Street protesters?

How many bitcoins would be enough to spark media attention ? 5000 BTC ?

If yes, you can go on an exchange, buy 5000 BTC, give them to feedtheprotest.

I don't want to be rude but early adapters invest time, money and energy to mine those coins. Of course they will benefit more if bitcoin succeed but this is too much to ask and I don't think that giving bitcoin will help the adoption. The first thing feedtoprotest will do is to convert it back to usd.

I think education is the key.
