Normal computers can't produce GH sized hashrates by themselves. You have to buy dedicated bitcoin mining hardware to add onto them.

Well if you are mining the software should state it clearly.

If you're asking what potential your machine has for mining scrypt - you need to list the video card and power supply being used.

Eh that machine is utterly useless for mining (I have 5 of those laying around).  It can be used to control an ASIC miner which you would have to buy.  Please see the hardware/custom hardware forum for more info on the available miners.

Zero - computers are in the mhash range. Miners are in ghash range - 1 ghash = 1000 mhash.

Check out some of the newer miners -- 600 ghash...that's 600,000 mhash! That's a lot of laptops!

You can do a search depending on you want to use your GPU or CPU to mine.

Your best best is probably using it to mine a CPU-friendly altcoin like Quark, Molecule, Atoms, Protoshares, etc...

As they are still relatively ok protocol to be mined on CPU only, it could be worth it. Also factor the power use in the equation as it could really offset the profit.

Eh no that machine can't mine anything really (I know I have several).  Those old P4 are space heaters even at idle, if you were to 100% load the CPU you would burn more electricity than if you mined with a 7850.

About all the machine is good for is controlling some ASICs (which is what I use mine for).

Try this: https://bitminter.com/test . But I doubt you're system will make over 5MH/s
