Listening to my local NPR station here in Houston. And apparently, Bitmain will be taking over an old Alcoa factory in a small Texas town, to setup a bitcoin mining facility!  :o
What do you guys think of Bitmain setting up shop in Texas? Blows my mind. But then again what do I know of their reach.

That's interesting as Texas really isn't know for its cheap power and our summers are pretty brutal.

Mining contracts from energy waste. Lots of fossil fuel waste to profit off of. Only speculation.

Thats not true at all. I was looking at a spot in texas with sub 4 cent power so I know its available. You guys have to remember when you buy in bulk for mining you arent just paying local commercial rates, you buy the power on the open market.

Would you be willing to share that location?

In order to buy on the open market you need to have a consumption of ≥ 1MW correct?

Thats only about 650 miners.  Nothing for Bitmain.

Bitmain is taking advantage of a closed down Alcoa plant that had a lot of available electricity. I'm sure there coming in and getting a sweet deal since manufacturing and the local coal mining facility have closed. They are speculating about 500 jobs would be brought to the local community, although the report doubts that could actually happen since these mining facilities don't require that much man power.

Maybe 500 jobs temporarily for re-tooling the location, but to keep 500 people occupied maintaining a facility it'd have to be a couple hundred megawatts of machines.

I wonder what they're going to do about the billion-degree heat? South Texas is too hot for their high-density miners for about half the year.

Yes, as a Tx miner I agree. The 108+ days were brutal. But if I can keep my 3 miners going with no issues past 110  I imagine they have deep enough pockets to do the same with tens of thousands. Maybe with that big plant they will reduce the density some.

Google "Yahoo chicken coop" and pick the first results that aren't for, um, chicken coops.

They took the overall design of how a 'coop works to create a very energy efficient data center building design. Add wet-walls for the intake sides to make huge swamp cooling and they should have it licked.

I'm rather amazed they haven't made an offer for the shut-down Alcoa plant south of Wenatchee WA.

Or perhaps they made an offer and Alcoa hasn't agreed to it 'cause Alcoa has been talking about "perhaps" reopening that particular plant.

So again how does this help with decentralization?  I think what we meant(decentralization) was to have the network ran by more than one individual.  Hey Jihan that means you have to actually sell your miners!!  Not just make it look good with your batch schemes. Lol. Bitcoin is becoming a huge failure and it’s our own faults for supporting such folks.  I do like however that bitmain is spending the money in the USA. But I’m sure they are fleecing us with the bitcoin/bch scam at a rate that far exceeds what they are spending on a measly facility to keep up the sense of some kind of decentralization.  Talk about a group that can’t see the forest thru the trees.  Anyway it looks like dumb money is going to run this scam thru to the end.  Decentralized my ass. Those still touting that need to have some things explained to them.  Also need to be sure that people understand that this system ended up no different than what we already have=centralized fiat. Just different people running the show.  Woopy so we have a limited supply. Well for now anyway till bitmain decides they don’t like that either.  I mean they already created one shitcoin they was willing to put their name behind.

It’s great for those that get a job. For those of you looking at it don’t think of it as career but as stepping stone like mcds.  

And as for getting paid.  Make sure to bid them high. I mean really high.  They literally are making toasters for Pennies and selling them for gold. Also make sure to have tons of “issues”when building out the facility.            P.S.  Bitmain——->Remember do unto others as you want done to you. 🤓

Actually they scammed people on several other coins as well..
Don't forget the Bytom fiasco...they really fucked everyone who bought a B3.
They did MASSIVE secret pre-mining on Sia before dumping the A3 on the market too.
Ditto when they destroyed Dash and ONLY THEN started dumping the D3 shitbox. ( and are still desperate to give them and A3's away)

The only Texans that will benefit will be politicians and a few well connected contractors.
At the expense of other Texans of course.
