Title: Solo mining with an Antminer - reduced power - just for fun
Post by: xxxABJxxx on July 24, 2018, 04:19:59 PM
I do not have enough power available and would like to mine with an Antminer S9 or T9+ solo.

Is it possible to reduce the power from one of these machines to 400 Watts?

What do you think and which is the best machine?

Disconnect two boards.

It sounds like you haven't picked up the units yet?

If you truly are doing this just for fun, why not look into some usb miners, or an old s3 or something like that.

I dont have one of these miners.

An old S3 has the same price as a new Antminer V9. I saw a V9 for 169,00 USD.

If one board is running at fullspeed, the fans do it also. It wouldt be better to low all three boards to reduce the loudness.

But i dont know if it possible to run these machines on 1/3 of power.

You may be able to downclock the miner a little bit depending on firmware but you won't be able to run all 3 boards on 400W. If you run only one board you can replace the fans with less powerful quieter ones. Sell the other two boards for parts.

You should at least consider the Z9 mini. Currently very profitable (0.0025 BTC equivalent, per day), and power consumption is only 300W. Seems perfect for your power situation.

If you want to see the difference you can check this site https://www.asicminervalue.com/
and then check the power wattage on both t9+ and s9.
The big difference is the t9+ is consuming more power than s9 look at the profitability s9 is giving you more profitability compared to t9+.

About reducing the power I think you can't reduce them to 400w just the other said removing 2 board may help to reduce power wattage and you can reduce the frequency to drop down the hash rate and power consumption but only works on s9 I don't know if can work with t9+.
You can find the guide here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3239820.0
