Title: Please can we remove bounty and ICO threads from the beginners board
Post by: Jet Cash on July 24, 2018, 05:11:15 PM
The board is completely useless now with all the money grabbing promotion methods being discussed. Bitcoin is going through a major transition at the moment, and it is about to enter a new golden age. The current moderation policy on the beginners board will ensure that Bitcoin Talk will not be a part of this future in my opinion.

What exactly do you mean by bounty and ICO threads?

Do we have to have older twitter and facebook accounts ( at least older than 6 months) in order to apply for Twitter, facebook bounty programmes ?

Are you talking about threads like this? Where newbies constantly ask same questions about social media bounties over and over agian. (I guess most of them do not even have a clue about other type of bounties other than facebook and Twitter)

EDIT
After posting this I went to beginners board and saw the potential root cause for the OP! (that long bulky article about Earning methods (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4739176.msg42800339#msg42800339) and the bugger who quoted that whole post and put "Nice article!")

The same thing is happening in the project development area.  People are just ignoring the sticky at the top.  Maybe the stickies need to be more prominent?

This is the latest one.

Everything these days seems to be about displaying your begging bowl in as many places as you can here, and most posters can't even write decent begging messages to hang on their bowls.

I loved Bitcoin Talk, and it has been a great help to me in the past, but at the moment, I feel it's similar to having a friend who is a heroin addict, and it seems impossible to get him off his addiction before he kills himself.

Bounty or anything alt coin related doesn't belong in that board so report them and they'll be moved. The trouble is, is there's no dedicated mod for that sub any more as MiningBuddy became inactive and was de-modded, and there's also no Alt Coin Beginners board so they'll all just be dumped in the main alt coin sub. I've requested a Alt Coin Beginners sub be created though along with a mod assigned for the bitcoin one so hopefully that will help.

Like most Americans in their 40's with a little time to kill I like forums, that's why I'm here.  Whether it's motorcycles, mountain bikes, hunting, guns, Ford trucks, or bitcoin, I like discussing my hobbies on forums.

But this one is unique.  It's not just a hobby forum, like it may have started out (I don't know, I wasn't here.)  It's become its own economy, and created an opportunity for many people to earn an income.  That brings about a lot of headaches for the administration.  I can only imagine what the founders and owners of this forum go through on a daily basis.  Like most people here I value freedom and privacy, and as an admin I'm sure Theymos does also.  But therein lies the rub.

How much freedom is too much for the forum's best interest?  What type of restrictions and controls are acceptable, and not likely to turn away new subscribers?  The economy of this forum has built itself upon the ability of the forum to attract new members, and it attracts sponsors who need to advertise to them.  So, whatever decisions are made in that regard are bound to have a significant impact.

The truth is that I came here to learn about bitcoin, and stuck around because I like forums.  But, I know I'm an endangered species.  There are a plethora of other websites one can visit to learn about crypto, this ain't the only game in town anymore.

And now add in all the SPAM-N-SCAM.  It's hard to differentiate between what's legitimate and what's a con.  Even the legitimate ICOs are obviously being shilled by people paid to reply in their threads.  I am a fairly skeptical guy and can take care of myself, but I also want to look out for those I love.  As a result, I don't know that I would recommend this site to friends and family who want to learn about crypto.  And that should be seen as a tragedy by the administration here.

Just my two bits.

I'm not trying to take away freedoms or free speech. All I'm saying is that if you want to sell heroin, then stay out of the doctor's waiting room.
