Title: Life on Mars?
Post by: DireWolfM14 on July 26, 2018, 04:15:14 AM
News today says an Italian team announced they may have found a subsurface lake on mars.

If there is a liquid water lake on Mars it's likely to be as salty as the dead sea.  If so, the chances of finding life are very slim, but I'm going by what's normal here on earth.  Do you think life could exist on Mars?

I hope not, because that would mean that there will come a time when humans would colonize it too. If that happens, then there is a big chance that we might destroy it as well like what we are doing now to earth. Have we not done enough harm here that we need another planet to destroy?

I believe that we will find life down there as it is far enough away from the surface of Mars to be able to survive in the briny water environment.

Mars has a rather curious past, in some places it is possible to see the springs of rivers, and below the earth a few meters it has come to be known that there was water, but there was something that destroyed all the life that came to exist on Mars, something that we do not know yet.

I think it's going to take a very long time to actually get people on Mars, at least 50 years.  We haven't even been to the moon recently and there is not a lot of funding going to space tech.  Even with the rise of these private space companies it will take a very long time to get everything in order for a manned mars mission.

I personally don't think we will find any life on mars. The lack of any atmosphere makes it pretty difficult for anything that breathes to survive. I'm not saying that alien lifeform could not exist without breathing but that is beside the point. The evidence says that although it looks like something that could be an underground lake, it could also be frozen c02 or an ice sheet.

If it is a lake however, and even if it is salty that does not mean that things can't live there. The ocean is pretty salty and all life on earth originated there so it's not outside the relms of possibility. Furthermore, life has been found on Earth in some pretty inhospitable places. Check this out http://www.bbc.co.uk/earth/story/20150904-the-bizarre-beasts-living-in-romanias-poison-cave (http://www.bbc.co.uk/earth/story/20150904-the-bizarre-beasts-living-in-romanias-poison-cave), its about life forms that were found in a Romanian cave with lakes full of hydrogen sulphide and show some of the life forms that can exist in extreme environments.

Title: Re: Life on Mars?

Life could exist anywhere, really. Sure, you can base the existence of life in other planets based on how it is on Earth (water, oxygen, and all other factors) but that's how we evolved-- we evolved in these circumstances.

If there will be life in other planets where we humans cannot possibly live in because of biological factors, it is possible too because the life there would be existing and evolving based on the circumstances of that planet's nature and composition.

Regarding Mars, however, we cannot say for sure until we have explored every space in that planet.

There is life on many planets that we do not know by the system in which we live which keeps us away from as much information as possible to avoid our evolutionary advance, if there is a large number of people who say that the earth is flat and another group saying that the earth is round imagine the ignorance we have to discuss such issues.

There was a meteorite that crashed in the Antarctic that came from mars and it has fossils of bacteria. So there is life on Mars? no, but some millions of years ago there was life on Mars, and even there are some theories that life on Earth originated from that meteorite... Personally, I do not believe in that theory I believe in creationism and I believe in God

There might be some microorganisms, but it seems that Mars lost its living things thousands of years ago, back when it lost most of its atmosphere. It also had rivers and oceans on the surface, now gone.

Who will colonize Mars first? that is an interesting question (and depends how do you "define" colonization). Just like the south pole, a few bases from some countries at most. If it is a private initiative, will it be like the Dutch back when a private company had actual colonies on earth?

Yes, I heard that Mars is currently a dead planet and that it used to be full of life and organisms just like Earth, but something terrible happened to it. However I don't know, and the current body of information about Mars is insufficient to make any conclusive claims about it. I have no idea but am open to the possibility.

They are not grateful for all that God has given (Earth).
I think the Earth is better than any planet, and a place that is very suitable for humans.
On earth you can drink a water and find alots  food.

I doubt any life will be found on Mars, maybe proof of previous living organisms eventually depending on how hard we look.

However, Europa I’d be willing to bet a decent amount of money that life will be found if we send probe missions, it’s by far the most hospitable planet other than Earth for organisms we know of and sediments have already been detected on the surface containing compounds which could be from biological sources.

If there is a liquid water lake on Mars it's likely to be as salty as the dead sea.  If so, the chances of finding life are very slim, but I'm going by what's normal here on earth.  Do you think life could exist on Mars?

From our current technology, obviously no, life cannot exist yet on Mars. There's many aspects that we need to consider life for example the difference in the atmosphere of Mars to earth which makes it inhabitable.

I think that if there is the possibility of having life on Mars, in fact the human being should look for these alternatives, as a method of survival, everything is to place survival methods on the planet with artificial oxygen, artificial earth to promote agriculture, taking into account It tells how to take advantage of the water they say they discovered. Not only on Mars, there are many planets that have good survival conditions, almost like the earth.

If we find life on Mars, it will have come from earth. Either we will have sent it on one of our rovers, or it will have come from a time when the earth and Mars passed close together in the distant past... or some of our ancient ancestors had space flight and took life there.

Actually there is evidence on Earth that there was life on Mars (http://) at some point, in form of microscopic fossils that came in a meteorite (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Hills_84001).
And the features above ground clearly indicate ancient bodies of fluid (ie. water), that probably evaporated long ago when the planet lost most of its atmosphere. Mars very likely had all the conditions to sustain microbial life billions of years ago. Some people argue that actually life on Earth could have come from Mars, not the other way around...

I don't think human can stay long in Mars

There is a nice series called Mars (Season 2), and you can see how society perceives future Mars colonization).
To me, we better resolve some current issues before we look for another planet

I think that we still need to develop technology so that we can we can visit Mars and use available resources on Mars for our living.
It's very big and demanding task because living conditions on Mars are much worse than on the Earth.
It's goal for a future generation I think because we can't develop such technology quickly.

This is the kind of thing that gets rumors about life on Mars started.

First, they don't know that the meteor is from Mars. Wikipedia states this:
Like other members of the group of SNCs (shergottite, nakhlite, chassignite), ALH84001 is thought to be from Mars. However, it does not fit into any of the previously discovered SNC groups.

Second, Bacteria claims have been rejected by "the wider scientific community:"
These claims were controversial from the beginning, and the wider scientific community ultimately rejected the hypothesis once all the unusual features in the meteorite had been explained without requiring life to be present. Despite there being no convincing evidence of Martian life, the initial paper and scientific and public attention caused by it are considered to be turning points in the history of the developing science of astrobiology.

Then i guess we will have to wait until more samples are collected from either probes or a settlement...

In the future I think life will be possible , because the development of science is always , and obviously will be in the future, a new life on other planets

Scientists are finding out how people can reverse the clock... anti-aging. Youtube search on "David Sinclair Joe Rogan" and watch the videos. There are a couple short ones that give you a lot of info... like 10 to 15 minutes long.

Do you know what this means with regard to finding life on Mars? It means you will have to wait longer.

It is very important we understand that if life exists on the earth there most be life in another planet and Mar and the y form may be different from the kind of form we have on the earth.

Life on Mars, isn't that scary? Remember we mostly get scared of the unknown. So... Naaaaah not really interested on whether there's like on Mars or not. Cause I do not wish to live to then.
