Post by: ThomasV on October 09, 2011, 10:41:23 PM
not sure if this is the right place to post it; I didn't find any subforum for bitcoin art.

sorry about jpeg compression.
The text on the left is: "This currency is not issued by debt, neither public nor private"

I like it! Looks very well suited to scare the 'oh noes the evil hackers have to be watched upon' gawker crowd  :D

Is there a high res copy?  ;)
Now we need it to be able to be printed with a wallet in a high res qr-code to actually make it worth one btc..

we'd need to make it less us dollar like to not be brought up on counterfitting charges but printing something like that would be possible, some tools currently in development would allow the wallet addresses to be populated and printed, they could be made avilable to anyone to print their own money! except it'd actually be better not that way with a few trusted individuals printing them and a mechanisim to indicate if they were redeemed on them (casscius coins holograms?

Wow! This is a controversy!
Now bitcoin has a physical form...  :)

Not sure if you were being sarcastic..(?)
In case you're unaware.. look up bitbills and casascius coins for some genuine bitcoins in physical form.
(can be destructively opened to reveal private key which can then be used to access the value on the network)

i should warn people, DO NOT TRY TO MAKE THESE AND PASS THEM OFF AS BITCOIN CURRENCY.

it is a federal crime to do so because it looks like federal reserve notes.

It should be a crime for money to be such an ugly green in the first place.

You both are right.
If you print it on paper, I suggest to remap colors first, replacing green with blue or pink.
It will be both legal and cute.

Nice picture!
It would be nice to distribute printed versions of it in protests like this OccupyWallStreet.

I think it would be a very bad idea.  Almost guaranteed that someone tries to use one (universal rule people are dumb and in a large group one person will be in the 10% decile).  Even worse would be if the merchant doesn't notice and it gets to a bank.

The Secret Service is rather diligent about these things.  Even if nothing happens it will create bad press.  Everyone knows how the press manipulates and distorts the story to gain rating.  Anyone think a story about counterfeit bills promoting bitcoin at an anti-Wall street rally is going to be reported accurately and fairly?

Personally I wish the OP would change the design to look less like US currency.  Why do we want a bitcoin bill to resemble a fiat currency?

Print it on conventional paper that doesn't feel like money paper, make it larger than normal bills and, mainly, write a text on the other side explaining what bitcoin is and how to get more info about it, with links and QR codes. Also, explain that the bill is not a true bitcoin nor dollar.

With all that, not even small kids will mistake it for original dollar bills.

Haha, US is the world hegemony now, they go into any country they want. Even yours.

As for the "bill", I suppose it's nice, but I see no point to making it look like a USD.

even though i can see the counterfeit / fraud squad jumping over it. i think anyone that hands out a 1BTC bil mistakenly for a $1 bill.. would have just made a $620 mistake. and the recipient, once realizing the mistake, will be very happy with what thy hav received and not want to inform the authorities..

This is very true and cannot be emphasized enough. The picture that the OP posted looks very much like the dollar bill and only after looking at it closely can you see that it is not a dollar bill.

I am not the creator of encryptedbitcoinwallet.com.

These are not bills, as they do not represent debt owed to any bank or any other centralized institution.

The dollars or euros in your pocket are bills.  Redeemable once upon a time for gold (or silver).  Now, nothing.

These are actual certificates redeemable for bitcoin . . .virtual gold . . . once they are loaded up with BTC.  Spent only after the private key or bip38 encrypted key are used.  Paper Wallets are used for Cold Storage of your BTC.

Get your BTC offline.  Practice good Bitcoin hygeine.  Prepare for the future, future millionaires.

we know its criminal and dont endorse it.. but hyperthetically. imagine you owned a 7-11 shop, a customer comes in and gives you a bunch of bills to pay for an $11 item....

you notice right away one of the bills is a bitcoin.. not a dollar.. would you call the cops and let them confiscate the bitcoin. or smile proudly, keep it yourself and put one of your own dollar bills into the cash register to ensure the register stays in-float.

i know id keep the $620 mistake (not recommending your employees do it. but as a manager of the imaginary 7-11 id be smiling)

Well as far as I can tell that bill does not actually have any way to redeem one bitcoin and spend it on the network, nor would you have any way of verifying that there is actually unspent inputs associated with the address associated with the bill. It looks like the bill is really nothing more then a marketing tool

very nice, except 1BTC is like $650 so it needs to be like a .1BTC dollar bill :) .
