What are some of the best movies based on gambling? My favorite is Rounders. What about you ?

There are a lot of movies with gambling themes, my favourite is the Revolver movie where the main character enters in a very dangerous gambling game where he risk to even be left dead. There are some pretty good actors in it, with Jason Statham being the main character. I suggest you to see it in case you haven't already. For other good gambling movies just check the IMDB website database.

I liked casino royale very much. It's not fully about gambling but the scenes at the table were made well. My second favourite is 21 - a movie about counting cards in blackjack.
There's at least 20 movies about gambling out there if you like the theme.

The first movie that comes to my mind is Casino Royale. The importance of gambling in that movie was limited but it was the most famous movie ever made with gambling as a theme. A few others are The Color of Money, The Cooler and Owning Mahowny.

There are a lot of movies revolving around gambling, one of my favorites are 21. I think that is the first movie that I've watched that is really all about gambling. The other movies I love is not about Gambling but there are some moments there about gambling that I love.

Focus and The Hang over has some gambling moments that I will never forget. I don't really like Gambling genres since we all know how will they end up, trouble on the casino or either with their families and friends.

I like with ocean eleven and ocean thirteen although I don't know much about the game, I see that my george clooney, brad pitt, and matt damon was on the movies. but I don't have favorite gambling movies, I only want to see how they play the game and take the win money and some time, it doesn't make sense, and it's hard to believe that they can do that.

Released in 2018 and starring Jessica Chastain, I would highly recommend this flick for any gambling movie enthusiasts.

It's based on a true story and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Yes I also really like Rounders, a movie that for me is very nice, a young man who wants to save his friends by making a big bet, despite the enormous commitment that must be maintained and built, at least can inspire many people. people are not just in gambling but others, there are still many best movies, like Ocean's Thirteen, Game Molly, and 21, and that's all I like.

I don't remember the name of that movie,but it was completely based on the gambling.The actor has the super power to predict the future so he knows that what is going to happen so he can be a millionaire soon.Butt he don't do these kind of activities but the people blackmail him to make money for them in gambling by using his super power the climax will be how he get away from those people.Anyone remember the name of that movie?

Also, I would like to add a regional movie. There is a Bollywood movie "Teen Patti". It is an excellent movie based on gambling with very tight story line. All of you can give it a try with subtitles, I am sure you guys will like it for sure.

the first gambling movie I can watch and I like is a gambling film called God Of Gamblers, played by famous artists Andy Lau and Stephen Cow, they are known as the god of gambling. but the way they do when playing is very unique, because it uses supernatural powers. though that does not make sense, but I wonder if anyone can play a gamble in real life that can do such power ;D

Molly's Game is one of my favorites. It has got numerous nominations, including Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, and won several prizes in International Film Festivals.

There are many movies associated with gambling but their main problem is that they are often poorly made. Although I like the above mentioned movies, I still haven't seen one which I could call a really good movie about gambling.

Teen patti Bollywood is the one I like most in gambling based other than that many hollywood movies are there but one called las vegas which i love most. It shows the complete gambling shows happening on Las Vegas gambling platforms.

Then still I do not know what is op gonna do with the gambling movie collection!!!

I mentioned Teen Patti in my earlier comment. The movie was not successful commercially and I saw it at home but I will say that it is certainly one of the noticed masterpieces. All the stars in the film performed their roles very well.

Some movies like thus involved with poker game was having crime related scenes like murder and assault. There's one movie I couldn't remember actually the title, and it's with casino house doing poker. I think during that first watch, eventhough am not actually fan of doing gambling but as I've focused watching the movie; that's really the best scene with gambling based movies I've ever watched. Actual strategies was revealed upon decision making, which made the main character analyzed further movements of it's opponents then won over the game.

Apart from the ones mentioned, like Rounders and Casino Royale, my favorite classical one is The Sting, starring Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

Another one is The Color of Money. I don’t know if it would fit in what OP means by gambling, but they are betting money after all.

I'm not sure if this is a 100% gambling movie, but I really liked The Wolf of Wall Street; I've learned a lot from that movie in terms of gambling when it comes to life and how gambling and other vices can ruin your life when you totally lose control of it.

Yes 21 is an excellent movie, actually me and my friends planned to visit the real casino that time we refer some movies in our list my best movie is 21 superb screenplay and ideas are incredible but in real time those ideas will not work but one strategy helped us. in 3 card game how the group of friends can cheat casino we tried but we failed.

Beyond the edge is new movie, it's Russian movie but with English language, scenes of gambling are from real Russian casino. Antonio Banderas with one Serbian actor Milos Bikovic in main roles.

I watched this movie couple weeks ago in bad quality, nice movie and I'm someone to upload HD and I will watch it again, it's recommendation from me, enjoy the movie.

I enjoyed reading this thread because I have small knowledge about different casino movies. And the list in IMDB made it easier for me to see the list. My favorite movie that is about gambling is 21, and I liked it very much because of I like math also, somewhat I would want to try that but it's not right.

I have seen this movie and can vouch that it's a great one for gamblers to watch! Very entertaining. I  also have seen 21 and that one wasn't too bad either. However, one of my favorite gambling scenes is actually from the first Hangover movie. I thought it was super awesome when Zach Galifianakis went to the casino and was doing the card counting.

Please keep in mind that those lists were not made by IMDB itself, but by its users. That's why there are a lot of poorly made (at least from my point of view) movies in there. There are some good movies there too though.

I really like the Oceans movie series starring Brad Pitt, George Clooney and the rest of the cast.

I really like 21. It is a movie obviously on blackjack, this kid who is a genius on math faces a university professor who gathers all the math savy kids of the school and they go to vegas every weekend and count cards and make a ton of money. It goes like that for a while and than it goes downhill from there. I found the acting really well and they looked like they knew what they were doing as well. Fun movie to have a look.

Other than that, I have enjoyed hang over part 1 on its casino scenes. Even the major part of the movie was happening in vegas, the comedian's performance in casino was my favorite. He won as per he promised later on the final scenes they counted how much they have won. Somewhat casino based movie whereas giving some satisfaction like we involved into that.

I agree with you, 21 is also one of the best movies based on gambling.

Judging by these responses it seems nobody actually watched the movies they are talking about.

Casino Royale was a James Bond movie, it wasn't about gambling. There was only 1 scene that took place at a casino. It wasn't centered at all around gambling.

Also Ocean's 11 Series is another example. It was basically a bunch of guys trying to rob a casino, the premise didn't have anything to do with gambling.

Good gambling movies are basically Rounders and 21. Those are mostly entirely centered around gambling.

Another example is a movie called "The Gambler" with Mark Walberg, it was about gambling however it was very stupid movie actually.

Nice topic that you got here mate.  ;D When I saw your question for the first time, two things that popped out of my mind are Ocean's Eleven and 21. Yes, they are not the best out there but they are decent movies that has gambling theme in it. If you didn't watch any of these two, I would recommend you to spare some time and see them.

I really enjoyed that movie. The true story of a woman behind one of the exclusive high-stakes underground poker game in the World. I recommend everyone to watch this movie. Another one of my favorite is 21.

My favorite movie about gambling is 'High Roller'. This is a real story about Stu Ungar - an outstanding American poker player. He is the only poker player who won the main tournament of the World Series of Poker three times as a result of the tournament game. The film demonstrates failure, falling and climbing, love and hate, temptation and more what every poker player is facing, and just each of us.

I think Casino is a great movie.  It doesn't focus too much on the gambling itself but how Vegas used to be run by mobsters and they would participate in shady activities.  Robert DeNiro really makes this film stand out with his acting.

Other honorable mentions would be the Ocean's trilogy and Rounders.  My favorite Ocean's movie is 13, you can't go wrong with Al Pacino and the mission they pull off is much larger than the first two movies.

There is also rounders which is a great movie based on poker games. Edward Norton is playing and he is great in it as a person who got out of jail because of some shady poker things he did before, however the main character is Matt Damon and he has a great arc and he plays poker not for just making money but to get the respect he desires and I think by the end of it he realizes he doesn't need the respect but he needs that self respect to himself not by others.

At the end there is no plot twist, you get what you expect Matt Damons character wins in a big poker game and leaves the movie on a high note.

Petty on all of them who are just supporting this cause. People you need to understand that this betting is luck. You can’t just make anything better for your life assure, until you aren’t good in skills and experience. Better for you to make your life happy and prosperous just by doing some respectable job. You have to keep on finding good jobs and please refrain yourself from this.

Your post caught my attention and now curious what's that film. Upon searching I encounter that movie title and by reading the plot hell yeah it's worth to watch. I downloaded now the torrent and will placed it later on download. My favorite contraire movies are Cincinnati Kid with Steve McQueen and  Edward G. Robinson and the movie "21".
The first one shows the portrait of an addicted (poker) gambler, who is close to defeat the best poker profi and risking anything on the last move.  The second one Tell entertaining a true story in which a university professor with his student "won" millions of dollars at the casinos.

Run Lola Run.

Lola and her boyfriend are in trouble with local mobsters - Lola has to come up with some money to pay off the hoods by the end of the day, but she realises she doesn't have enough money and so runs to the casino down the road to place a bet with the last of her money.

As Lola runs we are treated to alternates of what happens when Lola encounters people along the way - think Sliding Doors, but much more out there.

When Lola finally gets to the Casino she bluffs her way in as she's not dressed appropriately and then talks the cashier into giving her a chip for the Roulette Wheel when she is a few (cents) short.

The Chip obtained, the bet is placed. The Roulette Wheel is spun... Lola screams... and ... (that would be telling)...

Does Ocean's 11 belong here? Yeah! I know that its story revolves in robbing a casino but I think this should be considered too ;D. Aside from that, I also love God of Gamblers.

No doubts that Run Lola Run is a great movie worth watching, not once, but over and over again. I watched it several times when I was younger and was more inclined to believe in fairy tales. And today, although my views have been changed, I would watch it again with pleasure because, related to real life or not, it's a great story and fantastic movie. However, it would be wrong to say that this movie is based on gambling, even partially. The only gambling scene in Run Lola Run lasts around 5 minutes and shows not gambling as it is, but rather a craziest dream of a gambling addict. You can watch it from the link below.

No gambler should count on the possibility of this happening in real life. Yet, I adore this movie and recommend to watch it to any cinephile.

Never thought that this movie will be left out but in fact a lot of people posted about it. I don't really watch gambling movies until my father suggested this certain movie since I really like movies where the MC is so smart or intelligent. And this is a movie, I don't think it will also apply on the real game, well, no one can beat the "system" on the real casino.

My favourite gambling movie is 21, released in 2008. When I was a student I had a phase where I tried to count cards in a few casinos. It didn't work well actually but the movie inspired me to try it out. Over the years, I have seen it again and again.
Also I like the Wolf of Wallstreet starring Lenoardo Di Caprio. Probably not a real gambling movie but it covers "gambling" methods and excesses in the financial industry.

If you attempted to count cards in a casino then you must be some genius and have a great photographic memory.

Even if you remember everything and account for no errors, the way the casino cuts the deck will make it very difficult. Also it only edges in your favor about 0.5-1.0% last time, I read about it.

So basically you need to play thousands of hands, with no human errors, without getting noticed by security to win.

So in reality its very difficult to do.

Well I think we must refrain ourselves from gambling in any way. Watching such movies will trigger your sense of greed and we start watering for money through gambling. Like if a person have little bit feelings to go to gym and get muscular, but he isn’t doing this for any reason. And suddenly he watch any motivational movie, so definitely he would be triggered enough to start that thing.

I don't enjoy watching people gamble as much as when I am the one gambling so I'm not into movie and I'm not aware if there are newly released movies this year or last year.

Gambling is all about luck and all the people who play gambling here must know about it. May be in some condition we have the chances to use our luck but even there we cannot ignore the importance of luck.

It is a movie so I don't think that people should be trying that in the real gambling. Also, these students are said to be "geniuses" so I think that says it all.

I don't even know how can they memorize the card being given by the dealer. They are not just having fun in gambling but also applying things that can't be done easily especially as far as I know that is illegal.

These movies are really best movies according to me. My most lovable gambling movie is casino royale. It is most famous well known movie in this criteria.

I personally do not have enough knowledge about it, because I am not a movie lover, but I have heard about a movie that is in our native language “JANNAT” which I think that is based on gambling and is specially on sports gambling. There may be some more but I personally have no idea about it.

I love the movie Bugsy. Its about mobster Bugsy Siegel and how he started Flamingo and perhaps the Las Vegas strip. When I first watched the movie, I didn't believe that he is one of the brains behind the Casinos in Las Vegas. I watched the movie more than 5 times already and I have one downloaded in my desktop.

Most of the times these kind of movies are motivational but problematic as well. For those who want to join armed forces, they see army movies and war based movies and their interest keep on developing. But what is the case with gamblers? Definitely they would do the same. They have to keep themselves away from such movies because if they don’t, they might be getting addicted.

My favorite of all time "Lord of Gamblers". Its a movie that combined drama, crime and gamble all together in one with all its sequel. The interesting thing about it was that, the movie was exclusively about gambling unlike the other ones I have watched that it was just in passing that some scenes will be showed in casinos. It even went to show how deep people take gambling in the underworld and how extreme they could go. Still looking to download the movie and watch again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that card-counting has become pointless nowadays. In modern casinos they either use a new deck each game or they use automatic shuffling machines(ASMs) which randomly shuffle decks, or Continuous shuffling machines (CSMs) which partially shuffle used cards back into the dealer's shoe.

If the card counting techniques from the American heist drama film 21 presented any danger to casinos, MGM Studios would not finance the film in the first place. But they did because they saw the film as an attention-getter. "People who saw it would be encouraged to go to Vegas and play" - they said.

Hmmm. I don't know bud, we all know that movies is fantasy so I don't know if you're going to believed in the movie, let's say God of Gamblers or 21. Heck I even love "The Godfather", but I didn't became a "mafia".  ;D. And I don't attributed gambling movies to the rise of addicted gamblers. I love jason statham doing this movie and the action is is worth it to tackle about how gambling can brings to our life.and very few like what Jason’s end up with this movie that happen in real life,since i knew some people that has been killed because of not paying the gambling operators with their betting credits

There are too many gambling movies. If you tend to search on google you will find plenty of them. Although I am not so fond of movies but still "The lady Gambler" is one of my favorite all time movie related to gambling.

thats nice bro  .  gambling movies didnt get much attention and they dont have many releases from this genre . that is why it is good if you can support them but i dont think that you can get legit tricks on them because they arent real at all since they are only a movie  . 

By the way , im only familliar with one movie that is related to gambling and the title of that movie is god of gamblers  .  the movie was a bit old and  i was verry young the first time a watch it on a vcd player of our neighbor

Dont know anything else besides 21. Im a sci-fi movie fan and this isnt my type but i get hooked with this movie. It provides strategies and tells us even poker is a game of luck, we can still manipulate the game by knowing the probabilities of any cards. The only talent you need to have is memorization and mathematics.

I have seen many movies related to gambling and sports in my local language and also many historical films too which may not be directly involving money but still gambling with other valuable things they have.In hollywood I like casino royale.

In today situation money made everything so gambling movies and always be there a laptop feels and it will be successful running and accepted by all people that's why lot of people interested in gambling I also made some investment by seeing lots of movies.

Boiler Room is perfect example for combination of psychology and odds even though movie is about challenge of traders. I remember well one part from movie that guys talk about how to beat system with logical steps. Long story short, greed is definition about  psychological cause of addiction which drains our pockets. Exclusions happen,but i doubt it in online games. In my opinion there is somehow correlation between skills and zero risk events that happens rarely in gambling.

That’s a best gambling movie for me actually, its tell things about the poker though its quiet exaggerated but I feel entertained watching that one. Poker is indeed a game of luck and some strategies will work on this only if you are good enough and you already experience a lot situation in poker.

Never heard that movie, but locally we have some good movies where tackles more about the illegal gambling that is really happening in my country, its Mater Dolorosa and its good one for me. This reminds me that being greed in gambling will just bring you to a bad place, which can ruin everything.

For my own recommendation is ocean eleven (2001), on the other hand there are actions and also smell of gambling. there was a lot of
action on how to cheat houses at the casino, it was very tense and entertaining you know.

The best gambling movie to me is 21 (2008) because the gambling game that was introduced in there is blackjack.

21 is my only gambling movie that I want to watch all over again. Its really amazing to see gamblers playing well, anyway its a just a movie of course. Aside from this, I don’t know any movies about gambling but we also have some local movies but I think its just a waste of time and money.

"21" is my favorite gambling movie I can think of at the moment. They are a team of card counters led by an MIT student who wants study medicine. He is recruited by his math professor and goes to "play" in Vegas with the team until they are busted.

Justine Timberlake's Movie about their life connected to a time. They won't die in old age unless someone kill them or the time on their wrist reach zero. When he got into the elite clubs, he gamble his remaining time of his life knowing it could lead to his instant death. I like that part and somehow relate it to our current situation where we always gamble with time.

The best gambling movie for me, and compose of good characters. I'm currently looking for this movie so I can watch it again because I know it can also relieve the stress in me. I hope to have a more updated gambling movies that will tackle about the addiction and how they can survive on that, it will probably become a box office.

Rounders,its a poker scene in this evergreen 90s film is a must watch. It will take you to NYC, Atlantic City and Las Vegas. If you are a poker enthusiast, you will enjoy every bit of this movie. A law school student appears as a splendid poker player here who tries to help his friend who has exited the prison to get off some real trouble. In addition, I love Casino Royale as well. These gambling movies make you fall in love with gambling or at least explore your talent in any field you are capable of.

Moreover, it shows you how fake the is the face of the house. You are always under the eye of the house and in case you are winning, you are dragged into things that will disturb you to the roots.

This one is my first pick since i like the actor who played the role of a young gambler trying to cheat by counting the cards while playing. It just requires some almost impossible memory that act like a photograph in the brain. Though the house always knows what are these strategy and if someone who has it, they immediately stop them by banning in their casino.

First of all I am big fan of this type of movies and especially the scenes from the gambling movies will be more interesting and not sending every time and my favourite film is Casino Royale.

Big fan of scorsese right here! And i believe this is an adaptation of a book from an author i forgot lol. Not his best film definitely but a good one with a solid cast. Robert deniro and sharon stone as leads? And the ever reliable enforcer joe pesci lol.

21 is a good movie involving gambling. While not exactly accurate it is inspired by the MIT team that went around playing blackjack in various casinos and winning quite often enough to alert operators. I heard they check shoes mostly to see if you have some device on that you use to send back info to an accomplice that calculate the odds.
