I would say alienware but since you said not to include them okey then.

Other then that I recommend Dell XPS One 2720, Acer Aspire A7600U UR24, since most of there are expensive I would recommend to build your own, check this link out http://lifehacker.com/5840963/the-best-pcs-you-can-build-for-600-and-1200

Why would you suggest alienware? I find them overpriced for the hardware included in their coomputers same as apple you are paying for the name rather than the hardware.

Simply because of their quality and what do they offer. Similar offers you have with Dell (since they own Alienware), but if it is too expensive they build your own, that is what I do, you can get all the components like them even and it will be a lot cheaper, even if you pay someone to put it together. I know their prices are too big, but they know they are the best and they use that.

Apple for anything related to work and design work as most companies use them because they are good although maybe not for gaming as not many games are available on them.

Think about: Lenovo IdeaCentre C440
I also support the previous suggestion -  Acer Aspire A7600U UR24.

Isn't it cheaper to build a PC from scratch?

it's probably cheaper to build your own PC but I would suggest Toshiba Qosmio ;)

i5 processor, 8gb RAM ,2TB HDD..

it's only around a 1000$ :D

I would say build your own. Don't buy it pre-built. Don't get a laptop.

This is really the best option to get a properly powerful computer because you'll know what components are in and you won't have weirdness installed on it by the manufacturer, the thing about pre-built computers is they often but in junk components, so they'll have a really nice graphics card perhaps and then a crappy CPU or a really nice CPU and a crappy graphics card.

You'll also find you'll save quite a chunk of money just getting the components yourself and assembling them.
