Title: Best graphics card for $800-$1000?
Post by: FEdison on February 20, 2014, 05:08:40 PM
I'm basically a noob. What is the best kind of graphic card that I can get in that price range? What kind of coins will it allow me to mine? And hashrate? Thank you very much in advance.

You can get two R9 290 which will mine any scrypt coin, with about 1.6 Mhash/s or 800 khash/s if mining vert/ darkcoin

Will this be dedicated solely to mining? If so, i actually suggest getting 270 & 270X cards for their efficiency, and putting several together, rather than 1-3 high-end cards in one machine.

Here's real-life data from my farm showing 270's and 280's:

All systems use:
1050W PSU
ASRock 970 EX4 MB, 2gb ram, Sempron 145 CPU

270-system
5 MSI 270's
2460Kh @ 910watts

270X-system
5 MSI 270X's
2460Kh @ 950watts

280X-system
3 MSI 270X's
2200Kh @ 1080watts

280X-system
3 Sapphire Toxic 280X's
2415Kh @ 1155watts (1200w psu)

The 270 series will run cooler and use less power, which is better in the long-run. Also makes running power easier, especially for the MSI 270's which only use 1 PCIE power connection, the X's use 2. For 270 my preffered brand is MSI, other 270's are good but for long-term stability won't do much more than 475 a card, 485 tops. The MSI's are 492-500 stable.

Don't listen to anything this "BAKA" says. He is a compulsive liar and a scammer. Stay away.

Its the complete opposite of what he just told you. With scrypt mining with an R9 290 you are looking at around 800khash but your gpu will run at 90c. If you mine darkcoin with that same GPU you will be mining at 1.7megahash with 40% less electricity usage and running cards 30% coolers. Like I said don't listen to "Baka" he's a known scam.

IMHO 270x is best card to minig.
I have 5 rigs with 19 270x cards, evry one givs 470Khs at 60C. Gigabayt is better than Saphir

the only thing wrong with baka's recommendation is that 2 r9 290s will go over the budget.

im running 3 r9 290's @ 800kh/s each on stock clocks @ around 74 degrees (static 73% fan speed)

i dont mind the noise, but i will say these stock fans are LOUD on the r9 290. i kinda like it... it's my little spaceship to the moon :D

The Sapphire Trix-X R9 290's are really quite.

they're also priced @ $750/card for $150+/card extra i'd rather just swap to a naturally quieter card

There are also other places to buy the card for cheaper. But I don't think that has anything to do with my statement. I bought it for $619 if that matters. (it doesn't)
