Title: Only 2% of U.S. Investors Own Bitcoin - How Much Further Up Can It Go?
Post by: expertinfo888 on July 29, 2018, 05:50:18 PM
A recent Gallup poll (linked below) showed that only 2% of U.S. investors own any bitcoin, and 26% are intrigued. Think about those numbers for a second...

If even a small portion of those who are intrigued start to invest, the movement could be huge. Granted these are just numbers for the US, but statistics should be somewhat similar around the world. It seems we are still in the early stages. I know it may seem slow to many of us who have been following bitcoin for years, but don't lose faith, just think about the math and hodl!

Regulations and monitoring of bitcoins in the United States is much tough than most countries which has resulted in more investors shunning away anything to do with bitcoins.

These numbers are really intriguing, but what do you mean for "2 % of investors"? Is it 2% of the popukation (I don't think so) and if not what do you consider to be an "investor"?

I think it will at least double from its previous ATH. There's still many people who would buy it if they knew about it, mostly in poor countries. Bitcoin is limited so to buy you have to get it from someone else. In time it will be much harder to make people sell, you'll have to put a lot of money on the line to persuade them.

Wow only 2% people from USA, now just think if 5% or 10% invest in crypto, what will be the market cap, 1 trillion? may be 2 trillion? you never know. We need more marketing in the US, so more people know about crypto.

it is very true and I also believe that very few people are investing in bitcoin and this is still very early, and if more and more investors from America or the rest of the world, this will definitely bring the higher bitcoin price.

That's a good point. The article says the poll is "based on U.S. adults with $10,000 or more invested in stocks, bonds or mutual funds, either within or outside a retirement savings account". It'd be interesting to see the same poll based off a more general representation of the population.

I think the 2% figure is not very realistic. Maybe they keep more than that and are waiting for Bitcoin's rise to come out. When Bitcoin is recognized by the government, this percentage will increase further

It is not clear the expression "2 percent of American investors own bitcoins." Perhaps this means that two percent of those who have already invested in the crypto currency, that is, it is indicated that of all investments in the crypto currency, only two percent are accounted for by bitcoin, and the rest by altcoins. Then this is the result of government propaganda, which indicated that investing in bitcoin is too risky.

very interesting numbers. I'm pretty sure that more and more investors will be joining this race. Good for those who join sooner rather than later. But we don't need investors, we need users

2% of 100 million is still 2 million. That’s almost half the total population of New Zealand. That 26% waiting on the wings will probably invest before the decade ends. Bitcoin is unstoppable.

I believe that we should not equate the US with the rest of the world. In the US, most of the other rules are about bitcoin, and these rules are much more cruel.

2% is indeed a quite low percentage. As its always said that blockchain and cryptocurrencies are still on the initial phase of mass adoption. Currently all the rules and regulations that are being implemented on ICO's and cryptocurrencies in U.S. have made people unsure about this virtual world. Therefore people are not sure about investing in it. Even if 5% of world's population invest in crypto, we will see huge growth in market. I expect BTC to show growth atleast till 25000$ by the end of this year. Waiting for the bulls!

its already just "investors" not even consumers or people.

so its already very high bitcoin will never reach globally daily usage, it will stay a media hoax.

Something similar was already last fall. Then bitcoin rose to 20k. That's the whole point that many watch, but do not buy bitcoin.

2% looks like low number, but actually it's not bad considering Bitcoin negative stigma/FUD. If 2% U.S. investors own bitcoin, that means majority investor already know about bitcoin (or at least heard about it) even if they're not interested.

I'm not too excited since they don't really care about Bitcoin as currency/payment method which is decentralized, immutable, uncensorable, etc.
I would excited if the news said 2% of U.S. population already use bitcoin as currency or payment method ::)

us investors tend to be idiots jumping into everything new until trashed, they dont think long term strategically or carefully and risk averse they just join hypes they are beeing given.

"investors" is much much less than "consumers" or "people"

As far as I understand they are held back by the high risk in the bitcoin market and its high amplitude last year was even more to scare off not the most brave American investors who at the first bad news are ready to withdraw their assets from anywhere.

Ok, this is altering the poll completely since most of the population in the USA owns absolutely nothing - in fact they are in debt, ie they owe money instead of owning it.

A big role is played by the negative attitude of America to the cryptocurrencies. If the situation was different investors would be much more. It seems to me that the real numbers are higher, since not everyone likes to associate their communication with the cryptocurrencies.

Regulations and Governments policy is not much helpful for US Bitcoiners, I guess its rather de-motivating.

Then that would be good since a lot of people from different kinds of places will still get a change to have their own set of Bitcoins.
