Generally if you put enough fee it will be included in the first next block.
On https://blockchain.info/stats there are also some statistics of the last 24h. It says: Time Between Blocks: 8.23 (minutes) which seems like a normal average. If you normally get a confirmation in seconds, you were most likely lucky. Are you speaking about bitcoin? If it is bitcoin, then you should pay a fee and on average it takes ten minutes, the time for a block to be found by the miners.
