Title: Sponsoring a political article, and where to host it.
Post by: Jet Cash on July 30, 2018, 10:33:14 AM
I've quite enjoyed working on the Nicaraguan post, and that will appear on the political board in a day or two. It's length is knocking on the limit for a thread post in my opinion, and this led me to think of another idea for future projects.  The danger is that some dick head will quote the whole post, and another one will quote him. Also, there are no images included in the post. So how can we expand the size of the article and include it in a post for discussion?

I can host the page on one of my servers, but, as the article will be the idea of another Bitcoin Talk member, it might be better if it was kept in Bitcoin Talk. Is there somewher here where the page can be loaded, and then linked to in the opening post of a thread?

Why not create it in a locked topic. Then link to that thread in the one you want to use for discussion.

I think I recall coincube iirc, doing this for some of their posts that they found particularly great. They have a topic that is locked and it has links to those posts.

That's a good idea, and it is one of the things i considered. The main difficulty is that you can't format the page to improve legibility. Attempting to format a post actually reduces its legibility in most cases imho.

Sorry I might be misunderstanding this. Do you mean that you wouldn't be able to format the original post, that's in the locked topic? If so could you not just unlock the topic anytime you felt the need to reformat the post?

Or did you mean that the original content would suffer, by being posted within the confines of a topic using the forums formatting? I guess in this case they could use "Medium" and link to it. Might as well use it for good as opposed to all the coin of the day, multi-platform spammers I've been finding lately.

I have seen you mention this a few times usually in reference to not being able to merit someone; as their formatting causes your eyes to bleed. Slight exaggeration

I seem to remember a mention of a sub-domain that could be used for posting articles, but I've never managed to find it.

It would need to allow the use of css and html, and accept ftp transfers.

Don't worry on the dickhead/s. FH takes good care of the board and has even made a sticky (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4099972.0) about it. Politics and Society would be the best place since it has a political background.

Use another platform to write, I don't know why you can't just use the forum. Whatever be the reason, link the article down, quote the entire article, and explain the entire article in your words briefly and bold the main points. I see Hydrogen (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=68364) doing this a lot in the main sections(Bitcoin Discussion, Economics et al).

I'm probably jumping ahead a bit. What I am hoping for is a decent detailed post that will stimulate some discusion, and I'm probably making it over complex. Anyway FH seems to think the current project is OK, so I just need the approval of the originator, and we are good to go.
