Title: Blacklisted Exchanges -- leave your horror story here
Post by: hubbida on August 01, 2018, 06:44:44 AM
Paxful -- don't trust anyone on this exchange. It doesn't matter if they have 800,000 positive feedback or 0 feedback, sooner or later someone will screw you. I have multiple stories of scammers, whether it be paypal or gifts cards or anything, really, there is a scam with all payment methods. Better to simply stay away from it completely.

Poloniex -- suddenly holding everyone's funds and locking accounts? SCAM.

Cryptopia -- constant problems of coins being held, deposits not showing up, withdrawals not going through, and even after all the hype about the new CEO, they STILL have these problems. STAY AWAY.

Yobit -- many, many complaints of scams here.

What are your stories? Please share them here.

I never had any issues with exchanges yet because I am not trading with the crypto currencies much actively.But Poloniex have lot of accusations still opened and the representative of poloniex also got red trust and still no response so it maybe added to the blacklisted exchange as well.

We all have different experiences from exchange to exchange. For example, I see Cryptopia listed in your post but I am using it weekly since 2017 and never got a problem so far. Well, I got a problem the day I registered to tell you the truth, and they helped me within 20 minutes (not even on their website but on Twitter). Also, it's good to consider that even the biggest exchanges have or had some problems currently/before.

And I said we all have different experiences depending on the site. Another example is about Bittrex, which is not listed on your list. Did you forget already all the mess we had some months ago, and their useless tickets system where no one answer you? What about Coinbase? They are pro to provide the support, they only reply(ied) with automatic messages to people looking for help.

I'm not going to defend Poloniex here as I've never used it, but accounts being locked doesn't automatically mean it's a scam. Could just be bad fraud detection. Heard their customer support is crap though.

If only that were true I could *partially* understand why they did it, but no this is definitely not what happend.

They were going to implement/abide KYC laws ( I guess ), but explicitely promised NOT to lock withdrawals, even after the implementation of their KYC verification system. Next thing I know my account is completely locked, without any warning whatsoever.

My funds are (I presume) still stuck..

If they’re pulling things like this, what other shady stuff might they be doing?

Other users who experienced the exact same;

Anyone that is still using Poloniex, please take a look here.

I don’t even think this TOS is legal/ would hold up in court. (The TOS might be outdated but it really shows their insane mentality towards their customers).

Your misuse of the site does not imply that the site/site users are scammers.
Buying Bitcoin using PayPal or gift card "In addition to the risk of scam, you can buy stolen cards" is even riskier with the use of an escrow service.
I don't know if paxful imposing KYC
for gift cards ----> https://copay.io/ (https://copay.io/) or https://wegift.io/coinbase/ (https://wegift.io/coinbase/)
for PayPal -----> https://www.virwox.com/ (https://www.virwox.com/)

I had many experienced about Yobit exchange like pending withdrawal and unfair dice game and Yobit is the slowest support that I experienced before.

About poloniex I trust this exchange site before but after the supports response took so long I stop using them because I have coins that I couldn't withdraw.

For cryptopia never had any issue using them as of now and I always trade some coins there without having an issue except for delayed withdrawal for some coins.

I mostly trade on Bittrex and i am happy of them
There is list of dead crypto exchanges on bitcoingarden forum
I remember my first hack exchange story.It was CryptoRush exchange .it was very popular exchange with planty of users  i remember like for about  3 weeks altcoins were traded there 30% above market price and it was not possible to withdrawn btc so everybody were buying overpriced alts.It was no hack it was simple and awful funds stealing

and Cryptsy that was mega fraud not hack also and of course famous Mintpal
That was old good time of crypto wild west but many people lost a lot of money

Well said. Thankfully, I seem to have escaped unscathed using all of the above listed exchanges with the exception of Paxful, which I never used.

It's probably worth nothing that like all newbies, entering in 2016, I basically thought all exchanges were as good as the other, and dabbled in a lot of altcoins that of course brought me to the smaller exchanges: Cryptopia, Yobit, Tradesatoshi, Novaexchange, to name a few I used a lot! My experience with all of them actually were pretty decent, TBH, then again I hardly needed support requests and probably just did a handful of trades on all of them. I left them completely by 2017, and was still using Poloniex and Yobit well into August/September.

Poloniex because of their loan facility, Yobit because I had a modest stash of Waves and Bitcoin, and when they gave out all those forkcoins quickly, I happily sold.

Of all the big guys, I'm only on Bittrex now for liquidity when I need my alts offloaded. Have accounts on a number of China-origin exchanges, but don't need them.  Localbitcoins is where I do almost all my trades now, and BitPanda every now and then.

Sidetracking but the point is... there's no list to be made. Every exchange I feel, has to eventually turn on its customers when they can't handle demand, when poop hits the fan. Do your business, never leave funds on exchange, and you limit your exposure to horror stories.
