Title: [Update-Locked]List of pools attacked from DDos & Not.
Post by: pekv2 on October 13, 2011, 04:31:58 AM
Edit:
The pools are getting hit on and off, it's difficult to see which pool is actually being hit or not. I thought this might be a good idea keep some members in the loop on which pool is good to go, but apparently the pools are still getting hit on and off so I am closing & locking this thread.

If a mod don't mind, this thread can be deleted.
End of Edit:

I created this thread to list the pools that are being attacked by DDOS, and the ones that are not being DDOS attacked.

For the reason of this, I created an account over at  bitcoins.lc, setup the miner, it would not connect, I'm not gonna create an account over at every pool to find out which ones that are not being attacked, I am sure others would not like to do that either. So if you already know please list what you know. It will be easier on the community. Thank you.

If you find an a pool that is working, and is in the Being Attacked section, please let me know, I will correct it.

You may list the pools that are being attacked and that are not being attacked, I will update the OP with the given list's.
Please submit name of the pool and URL link to the pool thread.

Lets stay on topic please :).

So, that means you learnt nothing besides the fact that you used the wrong word?

I believe http://simplecoin.us is now the largest pool that is not attacked, supports merged mining with Namecoin, and not a religious extremist.

Seems you guys (Eligius) are the main players now, in keeping the NMC network strong.
Thanks guys.

he stated that it was just a test - and he stopped it.

i also refused to use eligius because of that; but as he dont do it anymore i dont see any problem now.

on simplecoin.us i allways have the image that theyre giving me lowest amounts. on every other pool u get what u xpect but there, its like theyre keeping half to themselfs.

i would avoid it all all costs, but thats just me

You are right, found NMC blocks on simplecoin.us is way lower than it should be with that hash rate.

Props to the admins at BTCGuild - like the other big pools they were/are getting DOS'd but unlike the other big pools (I mine on all of them) they were not affected by the attack much at all.

p.s. although the attacks are extremely annoying It did make me smile to see Deepbit at 100 g/hash today. Last time I saw that was last spring.

The only reason I've been able to stay online (although we have had a few outages when this all started) is that a large potion of the botnet IP addresses were forwarded to our ISP, which may have been what sparked these attacks in the first place.  I had been actively gathering IPs of known infected machines for about 3 days, and let our ISP know that we would be forwarding them a list of infected machines that we would like to get filtered from our servers [I had received emails from the ISP about null'ing our server due to complaints about infected machines pointing at our servers].

A few hours after submitting the list, the attacks started.  This is similar to what happened back in July when I banned a large botnet at the server level, and they DDoS'd us offline for 2 or 3 days.  This time it seems like they're just throwing a fit and trying to take down all 3 major pools.  The small pools can't handle the load of a botnet, and the large ones keep working on kicking them out.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/extremest)

We haven't have any issues with botnet or attacks since ~20 days back :)
Our system is fully operational and working perfectly.

You get a better hit if you spell it correctly, and judging from your comments on IRC about gay people and anything related to religion it fits you perfectly. Of course, from your point of view it's probably almost everybody else who are extremists.

The small pools can't handle the load of a botnet, and the large ones keep working on kicking them out.

The small pools I've been mining at have been doing quite well during this period of attacks on the large pools. This is exactly why hashing power should not be concentrated in 3 or 4 large pools.

*shrug*

My point is they can't handle the botnet, which is why the botnet is currently throwing a temper tantrum with the major pools.  They have nowhere else to mine right now.

Notice how you have to pretend I've said something I didn't in every message? It's good that you're trying to distance yourself from what you've written though, but it's too little too late.
