Title: Unearthing the deep Web [worst bitcoin hit piece ever]
Post by: Andrew Bitcoiner on October 13, 2011, 02:39:14 PM
Reading this article you would assume bitcoiners are all the worst things a person could be rolled into one  ::)

Assassination for bitcoin, very interesting.

Meh,

What bothers me more is the rapid decay of internet memes.  :P

I thought it was great.  Those people really are wasting the use of that domain name though.

I don't think it was particularly negative to Bitcoin, but man... what a retarded article. Jailbait is not pornographic, that's what kiddie porn is - the whole reason things like the Jailbait subreddit and JB sites hang around so long is because the pictures are by their nature not sexual (making it not immediately legal in the same way kiddie porn is, it may violate something like COPPA though, but IANAL) - it's only creepy because the people posting and viewing them do so in a sexual manner.

I would really like to see some sort of citation for the claim that the "dark web" is 400 times larger than the "surface web", and then there's the idiotic implication that the "surface web" only consists of things Google indexes.

On the whole this is a fluff piece, littered with keywords about the two or three next great demons of the internet (Silk Road, deep web, jailbait) with almost zero citation, research or interesting content. I'm guessing it's solely to attract hits, and it's working.

Saw that human experiments site months ago. Still having "bleach effects on fetus" tells me it's not being updated. It did sort of scream "Bonzai Kitten" when I first saw it. Glad to see it's just a fake troll after all.

Funny thing he forgot to mention is that the main criminal (Bitcoin) in this case is not residing on the so-called "Dark Web". Makes you wonder if we are that "Dark Web" after all  ;)

I guess what they meant by Dark Web is all the content that is on web facing machines that is not accessible by the general public, like for instance, the documents we have on our personal computers that are connected to the internet and that have some type of server(ftp, http, emule, torrents, etc). Altho i think the 400x bigger estimate is quite undervalued if that's what they meant.
For instance, I could be running a FTP server full of warez and only a selected few would have access to it. That would be a part of the Dark Web, per their definition.

Maybe "DarkWeb" is web being surfed or served by computers residing in dimly lit parents' basements?

What a drama queen.

Sounds like surfing the internet traumatized him.

"There are markets on DarkNet, some claim, where they sell human flesh by the pound. For Bitcoins, of course."

This is absolutely priceless.
It exposes how stupid and irrational people can be about what they do not understand.
I am definitely going to recycle that quote. I don't know what for, but I'm sure the opportunity will come.

PS: There are bidders on the Dark Net, some claim, who offered to pay one million Bitcoins for the head (or any other vital organ) of Davis Sargeant.

Anyone who uses terms like "World Wide Web" in what's supposed to be a serious piece of journalism is either:

A) Not really a journalist.
B) Doing some sort of parody article, making fun of sensationalist journalism.
C) Secretly trying to tell everyone about Silk Road by "exposing" it and pretending it's bad, full knowing that his audience of college students will be able to read between the lines.
D) Actually a bot, writing articles based on markov chains and a cleverbot-style repository of Bitcoin chatter and regurgitated news articles and op-eds.
E) A time-traveler sent from the future, only he doesn't quite know current trends except what he learned in his Middle American History class, so he uses terms like "World Wide Web," wears Technicolor T-shirts, and says "Cowabunga" a lot. Also, in the future Bitcoin is somehow involved in a robotic alien apocalypse, hence the need for the article.
F) Trolling for attention. The author, I assume, is fully knowledgeable that the only way to get exposure for your articles in a shitty student paper is to either be staggeringly good at researching and writing on a topic that's altogether new to media (such that it might be adopted mainstream) or to be incendiary and biased such that non-student readers come to you out of disagreement and hatred.

If I was the author, would have done the latter but at least included some hidden text within the article, such as an acrostic or having the first word of every sentence combine to form a limerick. But, as long as this guy is writing Bitcoin fan fiction, I don't see how you can fail to author a tender moment of lovemaking between Bruce Wagner and Mark Karpeles. The name "Cerulean Tower," where Mt. Gox is located is so perfect a location for this romantic affair that it sounds like I made it up. Or at least this guy should have included the local effects of bitcoin, such as how the new currency might possibly impact the epic civil war between campus squirrels, potentially harming the acorn-based economy of the industrial North Campus Red-Backs.

I am willing to bet we all live to the time where we can use this... not so soon though...

wow... isn't that special. Now wouldnt you want to buy humans alive, by the inverse weight? I mean, why would I pay more for a 500lb person? :p

I wound up on a site about human experimentation. Like the Nazi experiments. A site reporting the progress of several experiments on unconsenting men, women and children. Experiments like a fetus’s tolerance of bleach. Experiments like the deprivation of food, water or medication. “Not all humans are equal, for some of them were born superior to others,” proclaimed the site’s banner. The victims are homeless and unregistered citizens. Welcome to your first time on DarkNet.

Yeah, sure. Do they think we are so idiot to believe such BULLSHIT???

Yeah, on the weekends, me and my buddies get together and use bitcoin to buy human flesh that we eat raw while we masturbate (to bitcoin camwhores) and play russian roulette (that we stream for other people to bet bitcoin on) and rail every powder we can get on silk road (for bitcoin) off of the bodies of nude underage women (that we purchased from russia with bitcoin).

Bitcoin: shit's dark, holmes.

Damn,
I am hoping the experiments are fake. Some of that shit is sick, but I wonder how does someone get that sick??
