Title: Will Bitcoin become the reserve currency of the world?
Post by: Abiky on August 04, 2018, 04:12:09 PM
Do you think Bitcoin will become the reserve currency of the world sometime in the future? I was wondering about this since Bitcoin is now a widely used cryptocurrency worldwide. Since most altcoins in the market today, are dependent on Bitcoin's price movements, it seems like Bitcoin is the reserve currency of cryptocurrencies.

However, if Bitcoin tends to become more popular each day, it could eventually take the USD's place as the reserve currency of the world. Hence, what are your thoughts about this? Will it happen or not?  ???

this part is true but it is because altcoins are designed that way. they were never created to compete with bitcoin but to fuel the pockets of those who own it. and on rare occasions when a coin is actually good i won't make it because the market is controlled by the pumped coins on top.

Bitcoin is certainly a reserve currency for the altcoins but I don't see it happening for fiat, even in future! Bitcoin is not designed that way to become a reserve currency and our current centralized system would not allow this happen. We should not mix this two economies. Fiat has a separate economy and we must consider cryptos as a parallel economy system which will rule its own kingdom. But when it comes to ruling both economies, centralized banking cartels will have the control on their hand only! They won't let a decentralized currency become so strong that it threatens the existence of current system!

If bitcoin will hit mass adoption and by lightning network there will be solved scalibility issue I would love to leave from fiat to bitcoin with all my money and just use it. If more and more people will do that than bitcoin price will grow rapidly and other fiat currency value will be close to toilet paper. But will bitcoin become main currency of the world than? You need to remeber that oil/silver/gold/gas and manny others are valuated in dolars. And even if noone will use dolars in real life it will be still up to goverments to change pairs with oil and others. I dont think that US will agree to that cause it could totaly destroy their economy and value of dolar.

It's gonna stay marginal (at some level). At worst it could be used as virtual money for a video game (I don't remember the name: second life ?) At best it will remain a virtual currency used by geeks or by those looking to hide their funds (taxes evasion or other reasons) or on the darknet. that said, (besides that bitcoin needs to have a minimum value of $213,000 to hit to replace the US money supply)

In a world we’re politics is controlling the financial system and reserve currency is doomed from its real purpose, but for power. Bitcoin won’t and will not be a currency for such corrupt and unworthy reason. That’s beyond said, any currency made to be on that position has been used badly. USD is in and won’t be replaced in a decade from now, but the possibility of change is big since China’s Yuan is competitive.

bitcoin has become a reserve currency for altcoins and cryptocurrency, but I don't think bitcoin can ever be a reserve currency for the world. Because bitcoin itself has a fluctuating nature where prices always change very quickly. If bitcoin can replace fiat currency I think the country will have difficulty managing its finances or if that doesn't happen maybe the bitcoin price will be difficult to predict again.

First of all Bitcoin is NOT a widely used cryptocurrency. Second, why would Bitcoin take USD place?
Bitcoin, as it behaves now it might become a store of value...digital gold as they say. But nothing is certain, people could easily migrate to another digital currency...which they have.

Given past precedents, the USD should collapse in our lifetime (unless you are like 70 years old I guess) and we should see it within a decade or two.

https://monetarygold.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/table-3.png

The USD has already had a good long run and it's now on discount time. I don't believe the USD is any different from former attempts, it will not magically last another 100 years... it must burst and it will burst one way or another. It is then that the elites will have to decide if they want to enter another fiat clusterfuck or they want a neutral global asset class like BTC, and I believe BTC will be it, which will make BTC worth $1,000,000 each if you still want to value it in USD (due the debt default which is funnily enough around $21 trillion just like the total amount of 21 million BTC.

Bitcoin is global. It could be worth $213,000 without necessarily replacing the US money supply, so no problem about that.

I think your highlighted statement here are wrong, And Bitcoin is a majority when it comes to mass adoption and we can say that it is the first and only Cryptocurrency that are widely use from different exchange sites, And online wallets, And among all Cryptocurrency they will sure need bitcoin as a base for other coins price,

And lastly taking into consideration that bitcoin can done anything, In my opinion Bitcoin can pose a treat to fiat currency that is why the government and some banks are against it, I really think there is a possibility they can do it, and replacing fiat money, I really think in the near future it can happen.

The definition of reserve currency is - https://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/reservecurrency.asp

'A reserve currency is a large quantity of currency maintained by central banks and other major financial institutions to prepare for investments, transactions and international debt obligations, or to influence their domestic exchange rate. A large percentage of commodities, such as gold and oil, are priced in the reserve currency, causing other countries to hold this currency to pay for these goods.'

That being the case I struggle to believe it'll ever be held in large quantities by central banks. The idea of it being wielded to influence their own currencies would be too much to swallow. Financial institutions will be less bothered by the implications.

I think it'll become the reserve of choice for real people around the world. The barriers to obtaining and holding it are accessible to everyone with a bit of effort. It makes more sense to hold it than most piece of shit government currencies.

As the usage of cryptocurrencies is only increasing, the actual impact of the US Dollar tends to decrease, In case if the implementation of Cryptos will be successful, then this surely will loosen the influence of W Sanctions and the chance to sanction the SWIFT in particular. The use of Blockchain decreases the time and expenses of a single transaction, without the need of using 3rd parties. And as Bitcoin has spread worldwide, offering to substitute the adopted system of dollar, in my opinion, it’s just matter of time.

yesIn actual I can say that we should keep ourself postive over this thing because we are free to do everything in this field with the help of bitcoin and another cryptourrency but still here we are not fully free to use everything .
Here you are right that bitcoin can take place of USD but don't think it in very easy way because it will not be easy for the people to adopt as a universal payment option , because this is bitcoin and it is banned by the government of few countries , so it is not easy for us to make payment with the bitcoin , on the another side USD is not banned anywhere , people are able to use PayPal money Easily in every country using PayPal .
So here it a probability that people will use more and more bitcoin , but it can't be reserve currency of the world at any condition .
But still there are lots of chances are that it will get easily popularity and people will get use as much as possible but not as a reserve currency .

I  don't know if the bitcoin is become a reserve currency in the world because it is decentralized  cryptocurrency. A reserve currency is a large quantity of currency maintained by central banks and other major financial institutions to prepare for investments, transactions and international debt obligations, or to influence their domestic exchange rate. A large percentage of commodities, such as gold and oil, are priced in the reserve currency, causing other countries to hold this currency to pay for these goods.

Bitcoin is very poorly used and is used as currency, money, means of payment. Basically it is used as a speculative means of accumulating value. If bitcoin poorly fulfills its the main function of digital money, can it be the reserve currency of the world? This is despite the fact that he still has a throughput of seven transactions per second, when new coins already have a scalability of one million transactions per second. Probably, this question you want to play a trick on the current deplorable bitcoin?

It is going to globally accepted as a digital currency. But i don't think that it will be the reserve currency because it has volatile nature.

Yes.The fact that it is a decentralized currency and cannot be controlled by the government will always remain.I'm sure the centralized government won't allow that to happen knowing they won't have the full control over bitcoin. But maybe accepting bitcoin and legalized it as a currency will somehow be possible in the next years.

I am not quite sure if it is a good thing to reserve bitcoin as a currency. If we are to imagine fiats to be mortal or could possibly reach its end wherein there is no other way to multiply it, so doe bitcoin. I really believe that fiat and bitcoin are better together than fiat or bitcoim alone.

It would totally defeat the purpose why bitcoin is made in the first place. Bitcoin is decentralized in nature and you're talking about centralization. This will never happen even in the future. Maybe there are other centralized crypto that can act as one but not bitcoin.

Of the world? it's still far from becoming part of it. And many will subject to this idea, we know that bitcoin is decentralize cryptocurrency though it's making its name and becoming popular.

Professor of the University of South Carolina and consultant of Bank of Canada  Warren Weber last year published research that answers your question. Despite the fact that almost a year has passed, I think that this research is relevant, interesting and will be useful to many. There are only 30 pages, and it's worth your time. Highly recommend.
He compares the bitcoin to the gold standard. Two main similarities are the lack of control by the authorities and a limited amount of gold and bitcoins. The number of bitocoins is limited to 21 million "coins". "If bitkoyn becomes the world reserve currency, then on its basis central banks will be able to issue their fiat (not having their own value) money, thus, in essence, the gold standard that existed in the world financial system until the early 1970s will return."
In short, the essence of the research (and I fully agree with Professor Weber's conclusions) is that bitcoin could become a reserve currency, but it will not, because the principles of its creation and functioning have completely different goals.

no!

there are many reasons,

bitcoin isnt really standing for the worlds interests, like the us dollar mostly stood for.

bitcoin mostly stands for the interests of its miners and its owners, nothing else.

the world will chose again a nation that works for common worlds interest to make them the world currency,

and the nation will abuse its followers people and workers,

Given the nature of the coins, that the price level does not remain constant, and the prejudice it faces from the governments of some of the countries, it has a narrow possibility of being a reserve currency. It the attitude turns positive by all the countries' government, where they have no problem with it being a decentralized market, then it might happen.

If you mean 'reserve' is an alternative as a money in this world I agreed with you. Until now many people using bitcoin as a payment system in some country and bitcoin used as a money transfer tool for some people who have different country cause very easy unless with money fiat, and those are happened now.

The thing about regulation will hamper bitcoin to take USD place. Each country will prefer to choose USD be compared they chooses bitcoin as reserve/alternative money the legitimate one is used. Bitcoin will become a reserve money just for someone who have used and has known, not for people not for people widely because they will be afraid of government regulations.

Perhaps. However, there's nothing stopping Bitcoin from becoming a widely used cryptocurrency worldwide. While centralized currencies will stay ahead of the game, decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum would prove to become viable alternatives for everyday payments.

Therefore, it's only a matter of time before people decide which currency to use as their primary one. ;)

this part is true but it is because altcoins are designed that way. they were never created to compete with bitcoin but to fuel the pockets of those who own it. and on rare occasions when a coin is actually good i won't make it because the market is controlled by the pumped coins on top.

Yeah. Unfortunately, that seems to be the case with most cryptocurrencies in the market. They're dependent on Bitcoin as a reserve currency, which means that if BTC fails, they might fail too. Even Ethereum seems to depend on Bitcoin, as it's also in a constant decline in value. However, there could exist a possibility of a new altcoin to emerge in the market, which is independent from Bitcoin's value whatsoever. We'll would have to wait and see what happens in a couple of years from now. ;)

Bitcoin is certainly a reserve currency for the altcoins but I don't see it happening for fiat, even in future! You do have a point there, mate. That's very unfortunate but the true reality we're living in our world right now. Centralized fiat currencies will always prevail over any other kind of payment system to date. Even if Bitcoin were to become extremely popular in the mainstream world, fiat currencies would've migrated to their own private blockchains issued by central banks themselves. Therefore, there's a high probability that the US Dollar will remain as the reserve currency for the world in the future, while Bitcoin will remain as the reserve currency of cryptocurrencies. Just my thoughts ;D

I think bitcoin can not be the world's reserve currency. Because bitcoin is a virtual currency. Many countries do not accept co-bitcoin and it is prohibited in one country. Anonymity in bitcoin trading makes people doubt the currency is not real.

To become a reserve currency of the world, it need an approval of the majority of the countries and global financial institutions and businesses. Bitcoin is not yet majority accepted as one of the legal currencies so it is not possible for the leading cryptocurrency to become a global reserve currency. It is more likely to continue to use as an alternative currency because it is designed that way. The volatile nature of bitcoin will also prevent countries from using it as a reserve currency because it is not a stable form of currency.

Becoming a world currency that's a huge one. There are certain factors to be considered before flagging off a currency. The Government can't flag off what they don't have control over it. Now bitcoin is decentralized but cannot be traced. Don't get me wrong, your transactions are visible but a name and a face is not attached to it. So chances of using it for fraud are on the high side and if that cannot be controlled then it can't become the world currency. But widespread adoption is going to happen because it solves the need of remittance.

I guess being accepted by some countries, we can assume that cryptocurrency will be part of currency circulating the market in the future. Well I guess it won't replace USD since it is the main currency being use already. It will be hard for bitcoin to overtake USD. Though maybe bitcoin will at least compete with the USD. As of now, I believe Bitcoin is only accepted in fewer but known countries and so it should focus first to be acknowledge worlwide.

Definitely NO, I agree that bitcoin is now a widely used crypto currency, but this doesn't mean that it will become the reserve currency of the world. There are possibilities that btc will become the reserve currency in crypto market, but in real market bitcoin can never take the place of USD. Moreover Bitcoin is completely decentralised, thatswhy it can never become the reserve currency of the world.

Some cryptocurrency can be used as a world reserve because there is a need to change existing situation. It should be understood that now many bitcoins are owned by a few people. That's why no state will agree to use it as a reserve, because most of the bitcoins are controlled by unknown people.

That's certainly true, mate. However, that doesn't stop Bitcoin from becoming an extremely popular cryptocurrency in the future. Perhaps, Bitcoin will retain its status as the reserve cryptocurrency of cryptocurrencies for years to come. I believe that for a world currency to become successful, it needs to be highly regulated and controlled by governments worldwide. Only then, a single & unified currency, will bring transparency to any transaction made around the world via the use of a distributed ledger.

It could be the US Dollar as it is today, or simply another currency backed by the government will take over. The most important thing is that Bitcoin is independent from any central authority or government, making it a global currency for anyone to enjoy.

The only possibility that exists for Bitcoin to become the reserve currency of the world, is that if the same becomes completely centralized and controlled by governments worldwide. Only then, Bitcoin can be easily regulated and tracked, reducing illegal activity on the same. Nevertheless, it's not bad to dream of a world backed by a reserve cryptocurrency someday. Just my thoughts ;D

it could be, as a backup to conduct transactions in various countries, when there is inflation or deflation in the country. bitcoin will be an alternative for transactions, because inflation and deflation do not affect the price of bitcoin.

But we have to faced that some country also prohibit bitcoin because of so many reason, such as security reason, legal and policy, bitcoin is not a real money and etc. If we want bitcoin accepted in all country and become international currency, we have to find the solution.

Yes, since bitcoin is the most widely accepted in crypto currency I think it is possible that it can be a reserve universal currency and no doubt about the technology on how we are going on that because blockchain technology is almost a perfect design in terms of data holding, transparency and security what crypto needs to develop is only the speed of transaction and the availability of machine everywhere like our widely used electronics transaction the ATM, and if if all establishment adapt bitcoin then bitcoin is already a reserve currency used to purchased for goods and services that we can use in our daily needs.

according to my opinion bitcoin can't be reserve currency and we can expect it to be a one, cause we all know it is a cryptocurrency which is online based currency it can't become reserve country for the world but nothing can be ensure maybe in the future things can turn into something else

I think we cannot mix these two economies. Fiat has a separate economy and we must consider the cryptos as a parallel economic system that will rule its own kingdom.
But when it comes to governing both economies, the centralized banking cartel will only have control in their hands! They will not allow decentralized currencies to become so strong that they threaten the existence of the current system!
Bitcoin is certainly a reserve currency for altcoins but I don't see it happening for fiat, even in the future! Bitcoin is not designed that way to become a reserve currency and our centralized system will not allow this to happen.

There is also the possibility of ubiquitous use of quasi-money, the growth of their turnover, exit from the informal sector and, of course, attempts to integrate technology into the banking sector. On the other hand, it is a speculative asset, a tidbit for venture transactions between major players in the market. All is far from unambiguous, therefore now it is best to observe the development of the situation.

I think bitcoin may not become a reserve currency of the world at this current time but perhaps in the near future where bitcoin is already under mass adaptation globally, then it may have a chance that it will be considered soon. Bitcoin is a growing currency and the leader of all cryptocurrencies will become the most valuable currency in the world where many people would wanted to have their own.

On my opinion, I think bitcoin will be the primary currency of this world for every country except of those country that banned the cryptocurrency. In a world we’re politics is controlling the financial system and reserve currency is doomed from its real purpose, but for power. But I also think that bitcoin will not be the reserve currency for the future as it is very much fluctuating but, Maybe Etherium will get a good stable position in the cryptocurrency world.

Yes. Bitcoin needs to scale urgently if it wants to become a worldwide currency. While it's decentralized and highly unlikely to become the world's reserve currency, it could become a second alternative to fiat currencies for years to come. It will depend on how popular and widely used it will be around the world. At its current state, it's useless for handling transactions of all the world's inhabitants.

However, with the Lightning Network, I believe that Bitcoin could reach many people worldwide, without limitations. Depending on its technical aspects, it would allow Bitcoin to infinitely scale to millions of TPS without adding stress to the main network. Another thing that needs to happen would be the widespread adoption of the internet worldwide. Since some countries lack internet access, it'll be impossible for Bitcoin to be used there. This is one of the many things Bitcoin would need to address, to become a worldwide currency which is scalable, and most of all, unstoppable.

With good effort and dedication from the dev team, and the community, Bitcoin could become a solid reserve currency for all cryptocurrencies in existence to date. Just my thoughts ;D

According to me, bitcoin will not be the world's reserve currency, but Bitcoin or cryptocurrency will be the world's alternative currency. because we can send it anywhere without obstacles and without distress.

You have a point, because fiat was too hard to kill or remove from every country because it is the part of the history and it is need by community and country.  Crypto was volatile price so it is not good to become the focus money of every country.  It is like a fiat that the economy was too fast to grow and dump.  When everybody use this, every money in the world has the same economy or when the price dump, the whole world affect.

Recently, the popularity of bitcoin is slowly decreasing due to it being banned in multiple countries and a new set of rules that are made by the bitcoin personnel. Users that disobey these said rules are banned and in order to still continue using bitcoin they would create a new account but would have a hard time to rank up due to the merits required. and if the cycle continues this would be hard for bitcoin to be a currency but if people understand bitcoin not just a scam or a fraud it would be much easier for it to be the international currency.

I think, I agree with most of our friends in this discussion group who disagree if Bitcoin will become a reserve of money in the future.
we know that real life has centralized money and closely records it with national and state life and politics.
So, bitcoin might just dominate the crypto currency, if that is possible. But not to match the role of fiat currency.

By enabling Bitcoin as one of the currencies to transact electronically, that means the government understands what is needed by the community, namely an alternative solution when a standard solution stagnates. There are further advantages of using Bitcoin besides the economic movement, namely the restoration of public confidence in the country. People trust requires a government that really works, right?

Regardless of the benefits offered by Bictoin, the chances of becoming an official currency are very small - if not impossible '.' However, will Bitcoin continue to be used as an alternative and become the world's reserve currency? Maybe.

I am not sure about this. Bitcoin has the opportunity to have the first mover advantage. But we don't know for sure if there will be another coin in the future that will be better than bitcoin. No one knows. But in my opinion USD is doomed. However, it will be decades before we see the final demise of USD as a currency. And when that time comes, it will be a great upheaval that's for sure. But it is not in the foreseeable future. It will take decades. Maybe 2 or 3 decades.

Maybe so. If governments and central banks continue to dominate the world economy, then there's no doubt that Fiat will always remain as the reserve currency of the world. However, if people decide to gain sovereignty over their economy, then they would use Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies at a greater level than Fiat. Once this happens, then Bitcoin would become the reserve currency of the world, as everything will depend on its valuation for years to come.

If Bitcoin is indeed like Gold, then people would start investing into Bitcoin for the long term to protect their capital against the dreaded inflation of Fiat. Right now, Bitcoin is the reserve currency of all cryptocurrencies in existence, but we'll never know what will happen in the future. It's very unlikely that Bitcoin will become the reserve currency of the world because it's decentralized, but anything could happen.

It's only a matter of time before Fiat continues to dominate our very lives or cease to exist as a result of cryptocurrencies taking all over the world. Just my opinion :)

Not really sure but since no one can really be called the holder of bitcoin, and no one can really limit it since its pretty much controlled by the user themselves, I doubt it could be the reserve currency. But it is much more efficient than paper money in its continuous transfer and usage so I'm not really sure.

It is true that Bitcoin is growing day by day and it will be one of the major currencies on a global scale in the fund transfer industry. However, it will never replace the fiat currency because of the number of reasons. People will definitely give the first choice to the currency which is convenient, secure, cheaper and faster. If Bitcoin could give more utility to the users, then it will be on the top in any time period. I am optimistic about the growth of crypto industry in next 5 to 10 years from now.

I do not believe that bitcoin will become a reserve currency in the world. The currencies used for transactions in interbank and international payments are centralized and strictly controlled, which is all that bitcoin is not by its very nature.
Bitcoin is and will be an alternative currency, and in order to be adopted more, it is necessary to redefine the world economy, and there is a lot of resistance.

That's certainly true, mate. However, there could exist a possibility of Bitcoin becoming a reserve currency of the world if it turns out to become centralized. If this happens, then Bitcoin will become the one currency of the world, where everyone will be transacting with. There will be no need for physical hard cash, as everything will be done in a global ledger backed by banks and governments around the world. Even if Bitcoin doesn't become the reserve currency of the world in the future, another centralized cryptocurrency will take the lead as it fulfills the purpose of being the reserve currency of the world.

If Bitcoin remains decentralized, then it could prove to become a viable alternative against traditional currencies such as the Dollar, Euro, Yen, and more. People would resort to decentralized cryptocurrencies to protect themselves against inflation from fiat currencies, and other undesired situations in the mainstream world. Which means that Bitcoin will not become the reserve currency of the world, but it will become the reserve cryptocurrency of all cryptocurrencies to date. Right now, it's the reserve cryptocurrency of all cryptocurrencies on the market, which explains why altcoins have been falling in price the moment Bitcoin does. However, only time will tell us what lies ahead with Bitcoin's dominance in the crypto market, as other alternatives with better technologies emerge. Just my thoughts ;D

That's certainly true, mate. I guess that we would have to wait until all the countries of the world, adapt to the latest technologies for their own benefit. As they see how Bitcoin's blockchain technology changes the economy for the better, they would adopt the latest technologies without doubt, to create a digital currency of their own. Then, it would only be a matter of time before Bitcoin becomes extremely popular in every region of the world, to obtain its status as the reserve currency of the world, or simply a centralized alternative would emerge with said purpose.

What really matters is that Bitcoin has managed to go a long way since 2009, where it has gathered a lot of popularity and adoption in the mainstream world. While it's decentralized right now, it can never achieve the status of being the reserve currency of the world. However, it's known that Bitcoin is the reserve currency of all cryptocurrencies in existence to date, since many altcoins rise in value whenever Bitcoin does the same. Perhaps, in the future, Bitcoin could become Gold's successor, as it proves to become a safe-haven for investors against inflation experienced by fiat currencies like the US Dollar.

Therefore, we may never know with certainty if Bitcoin will become the reserve currency of the world, or another contender which is centralized may take the lead. Just my opinion :)

it will take time and maybe bitcoin will not be a global currency, but the coins based on the blockchain have all the chances for this

Probably. However, because many cryptocurrencies have a decentralized design, it's quite impossible for it to become a reserve currency of the world. Unless, cryptocurrencies replace fiat, the chances of Bitcoin or any other coin to become a reserve currency of the world would diminish every day. Of course, Bitcoin is already the reserve currency of all the cryptocurrencies in existence today, but it might never reach the status of being a reserve currency of the world.

However, in the future, either the US Dollar, the Euro, or the Chinese Yuan might become the reserve currency in the world. Right now, it's the US Dollar, but it could change anytime soon if it weakens over time. I believe that fiat currencies will shift to blockchain technology to gain all the benefits existent into cryptocurrencies. But who knows? In crypto land, anything could happen and if Bitcoin becomes extremely popular and adopted by anyone in the world, it could effectively become the "people's reserve currency of the world". Just my thoughts ;D

from technology, maybe bitcoin can excel, but you have to be able to see from a number of cases that exist when bitcoin or digital currency is not widely used for some existing payment platforms because governments in some countries still have not legalized bitcoin as a tool for legitimate payments if there are no regulations. what is clear from the use of bitcoin, yes I know bitcoin is created because it wants to make digital currency that cannot be controlled by anyone all the movement of pure prices from the existing supply and total supply, so this will cause unstable problems in the price of bitcoin, from in this case, there are many problems that exist if bitcoin replaces the world currency so I think bitcoin will be very difficult to replace the world currency. but I am very confident that bitcoin can be one alternative payment that is safer from hacker attacks in the world, because at this time I have not known there are hackers who can steal when a bitcoin transaction is in progress.

In as much that bitcoin is becoming more and more popular or known by the world does not mean bitcoin is overtaking USD in terms of popularity. For Bitcoin to become a reserve currency of the world, Bitcoin must be in existence for the next 30 to 50yrs. By then, about 80% of the world would have heard of Bitcoin and it operates.

It would be great to see Bitcoin as a reserve currency in the future, but even today many individuals use Bitcoin as an additional way to save their money in the event of devaluation, inflation or in the event of another global financial crisis. But I am sure that in the future Bitcoin will become a reserve currency, first for large businesses, then for corporations, banks and in the future for entire countries.

It depends on what you mean by this value. I think that Bitcoin will be mainly used by citizens and will be mainly for carrying out large-value transactions. States and business structures do not seem to use it as often because of its high volatility. However, all this will depend on how well Bitcoin will be improved.

No, i think it will not happen that bitcoin is the reserve currency in the world. Because it is a strongest and most popular cryptocurrency all over the world, it should be the alternative.

According to me, bitcoin will not be the world's reserve currency, but Bitcoin or cryptocurrency will be the world's alternative currency. because we can send it anywhere without obstacles and without distress.
all can happen and cryptocurrencies can also be the main currency, the most important now is all countries recognize and formalize crypto currencies as the prevailing currency

Chances are higher that BITCOIN will become global currency, once developed country started adopting this then all business and country will also start adopting this ,
BTC value rise will also decide many things.

I do not think so. It seems to me that we do not need to jump in a conclusion because some of it could happened and some of it could not. We shoul always need to think what will be the pros and cons of it in the market. Maybe same countries did not want it because of its decentralized and even a government did not want it.

Bitcoin can become global reserve currency, why not, but will it happen or not, we will see about that yet. I think in this faze it`s too early to even discuss about it, because it can`t happen anytime soon. Governments are not ready to get into bitcoin , they can`t trust in something so new and untested. If they dare to get into it they will need to have miners, they will need to have some kind of control over transactions. We see more efforts towards regulating Bitcoin, which also gives it more legitimacy in the long run, but years will pass before anything happen on global level. We need to wait more countries to adopt and legalize bitcoin and crypto currencies, after that we will see some moves on global level.

Now every hamster knows about halving, and it is already embedded in the current price.

On the costs of miners in general, do not give a shit to everyone, everyone loves only to be jealous of income.

When the time comes to halving, there will be no rush, the maximum of the big players will try to organize a pamp, but it will be as short as the one that was this winter, if there will be.

Most people in cryptocurrency world are looking forward to BITCOIN as the mai currency to use world wide.

Your scenario is unlikely to take place in the nearest hundred years, or at least while the US (and China with its yuan) remain the wold's leading economies.
Rome was not built in a day, and in the same way btc will not become as widespread as the current fiat leaders - dollar, yuan, euro, won.

Bitcoin could become a global reserve currency, but it will not. Two main similarities are the lack of control by the authorities and a limited amount of gold and bitcoins. Recall, the algorithm limits the number of bitcoins 21 million "coins". If bitcoin becomes a world reserve currency, then on its basis central banks will be able to issue their fiat money. Issuing fiat money will be one of the last opportunities for central banks to influence monetary policy. At the same time, if bitcoin becomes a standard, then a moderate increase in deflation will occur. But after reaching a certain level, its speed will be minimal. At the same time, the introduction of a new standard will not abolish economic crises, they will continue to occur.

No, I don't think Bitcoin will become the world's reserve currency. Because there have many facts of course. Bitcoin is popular but not enough familiar with every people of the world. Bitcoin has volatility nature, anytime its price can go very high or low, no one has bitcoin's control. Bitcoin is not helpful for the developing country because its tax-free, World has better currency than Bitcoin. So, bitcoin can't be the reserve currency of the world.

Since most altcoins in the market today, are dependent on Bitcoin's price movements,
I agree with it, without bitcoin's good movements, altcoin will not be big! Bitcoin dominate the crypto market, that is why many people know the cryptocurrency market only for Bitcoin.

Actually my opinion about this if the cryptocurrency someday would become the reserve currency of the world, its would only been happen if its accepted as being  regulated and legalized by the world government as part of the monetary fund of all over the world, and its will become a legitmate parts of world exchange currency fund, but  for as of now thats its only a digital figures and not totally global accept this cryptocurrency, its will serve's as only part of economic investment.

Before bitcoin can accepted as a currency, we need approval from all country, and they agree to use bitcoin as the next currency in their country. And if this is happening, then bitcoin can go as the second currency or even for the main currency in every country. But we cannot see this is happening in the next year because every government still need to study more about bitcoin especially about blockchain technology (or they already did?). Maybe they want to find out the other benefits for the country and of course for their citizen.

Yes of course, when time ends about the real money. The bitcoin reservation will be the currency for a new world of digital. So it means the people will still have a chance to be aware of, the government will be notified for this.

I think the government certainly knows this, I'm sure they are also aware of the development of bitcoin in the world. unfortunately, now the use of bitcoin as a means of payment is still very limited. most people who have bitcoin, only hold bitcoin as an investment asset. because they are interested in the benefits that will be obtained. they do not intend to use bitcoin as a means of payment. but everything becomes possible when later bitcoin will become a legitimate digital payment instrument.

i don't think so, just logic Bitcoin only circulates as many as 21 million coins and the population on earth is almost 7 billion, if we just take the average person who holds another currency other than their country's currency as much as 1 billion then the amount of Bitcoin will be less. so I don't think Bitcoin is suitable as a reserve currency, which matches Ripple or Tether (USDT)...

I guess Bitcoin can be a part of payment system as what it is now in some countries in the world. It is basically used as money too. But I can say that it can never replace the traditional and tangible money. I believe that if it happened, the billing and payment system would be more convenient. But noticing those countries who aren't into the world of cryptocurrency. I guess it is as 90% impossible and 10%possible.

I don't think Bitcoin will be able to replace USD as a common currency, but bitcoin can be an excellent alternative to an exchange transaction because of the use of blockchain technology, business processes with blockchain technology are very easy and transparent, that's what makes bitcoin more popular. But again I still doubt if bitcoin can replace the role of USD completely.

At present Bitcoin can be said to be a supporting currency in the world financial system. It can even be said to be the safest because Bitcoin will not be destroyed like when a disaster occurs. As long as we can still access the account and the bitcoin wallet we have, Bitcoin will still be there. Someday in the future it could be that Bitcoin becomes a currency that is more widely used, we will face a technology era that is much better and more sophisticated technology, so Bitcoin will be increasingly needed.

If all the founders of the country talk about this, it will likely be a very good solution if bitcoin becomes a reserve currency, and we know that at present all countries depend on the US dollar, and that it will benefit the US country, if it is changed by using bitcoin to shop for the country's needs, the country's currency will not fall, for example like Turkey !!

Well, I think that Bitcoin has a wide array of possibilities and potential available to it. However, instead of a reserve currency, I more so foresee it as a currency that can compete with the currencies and other investment assets we have today, just like how it's doing now. However, there's nothing wrong with it being held as a reserve currency or asset, which can be sold at any point when needed. It's not too far off to see that knowing the value it has as it can be turned as a contingency asset that a person can exchange when he needs the money or invest when there is a chance as is.

at this moment I like to see the direction to it. Bitcoin is slowly starting to attract attention and surely in the future, it will take a position as the world's reserve currency, but to get to that stage I think Bitcoin must be able to adjust its exchange rate because currently, the exchange rate is very high against the dollar.

First bitcoin has to be globally accepted for it to possess such potentials. If or when this happens, we can then queue this possibility up as one to hold on to. Secondly, I don't think that there can be a 'World's reserve currency'. Who will regulate it? what policy will it exist on? these are just few questions that should be first put into consideration before we think of such possibility. Moreover, Bitcoin is a technological development and technology innovations are not static, and from what I understand, 'Currency' is not an item to have version 1, version 1.1 and so on.

I dont believe that this will be true, at least at official level it wont be recognized as such asset. But in the same time when /if geo political situation will get worse and worse, BTC will become more and more valuable.  Also for this to happen a lot of time has to pass so that we newer generation would be in charge.

LOL!! That is a very far fetched dream, my friend!! Bitcoin is yet not accepted as a global currency, there are many countries that are still not ready to opt for crypto currency market. They have a very rigid approach towards the bitcoin and other crypto currencies. Such kind of a rigid and arrogant attitude towards bitcoin makes it difficult for the currency to survive in an economic system. So bitcoin has become only a means of an investment in those countries and a DIGITAL ASSET. Then there are other countries where the government has imposed a complete ban on the crypto market.

It can be the reserve value reference for the world but I doubt it can be used as currency any time soon. Micro payments through bitcoin blockchain can be really expensive and also the network congestion in highly demand times like the one we experienced past December 2017 can result in a very slow network. I like bitcoin but it needs to solve it scalability issues first for considering this to happens any time soon  :D

Now Dollar is the global currency. Most of the international transactions are done using dollar. It's not fair. Because United States has control over the currency. Why shouldn't another country play that big role? In my opinion dollar will be finally replaced by another currency. A decentralized currency can be a good option. Bitcoin might be that currency.

In my opinion, Bitcoin can become a reserve currency all over the world only when all countries begin to actively use cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. But it will be in very many years. Some countries, such as Ethiopia, where the Internet uses 1% of the population. And when it comes to such countries technological development is unknown.

First of all, cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) is a technology. Blockchain technology is being actively studied by many countries and payment systems. They are trying to integrate it into business processes, which can help greatly reduce the overhead of bank transfers. The farther, the more new technologies that entail new changes, products, industries. Everything is far from clear, therefore at the present time it is best to observe the situation.

Agree. Blockchain technology brought by Bitcoin is new to the world. Despite this, it's quite surprising to see how a new technology became popular so fast. Within less than 10 years of Bitcoin's existence, the blockchain industry has improved in many ways that were never thought possible. However, there's still the issue of scalability which would prevent Bitcoin to reach millions of users worldwide. When it scales with the Lightning Network successfully, then Bitcoin would become a global currency for anyone to enjoy.

Still though, I'm starting to doubt whenever Bitcoin will become the reserve currency of the world or not, due to its decentralized design. For it to attract the likes of Banks and Governments worldwide, it would need to become centralized, otherwise it'll be difficult to control or maintain order on it. A cryptocurrency that would fit the bill nicely, would be Ripple (XRP) due to its highly centralized design. It's easily controlled by banks, governments, and the Ripple company itself making it extremely ideal for a reserve currency of the world. It may not be the XRP token directly, but instead a fiat currency issued within the XRP ledger.

As such, the Dollar might remain as the reserve currency of the world, but in a whole new way, as it operates in a distributed ledger which can be easily frozen or manipulated in case there's criminal activity (money laundering). This may take quite some time before it becomes a reality, but one thing for sure is that the world is heading towards everything blockchain, as the reserve currency of the world takes advantage of such technology. Just my opinion :)

It doesn't seem very likely that bitcoin is going to become a reserve currency anytime soon, before that happens bitcoin will need to become a currency, I know that bitcoin is a currency from the very beginning but people are not using it like it, so to begin with we need people to begin to use bitcoin in that way and only then we can think about the possibility of bitcoin becoming a reserve currency.

It doesn't seem very likely that bitcoin is going to become a reserve currency anytime soon, before that happens bitcoin will need to become a currency, I know that bitcoin is a currency from the very beginning but people are not using it like it, so to begin with we need people to begin to use bitcoin in that way and only then we can think about the possibility of bitcoin becoming a reserve currency.
right, for short term, government is expected to legalize BTC, and make it a reserve currency. because it is impossible to replace fiat currency. after that it is expected that there will be many shops that facilitate payment using BTC

Looking at the number of governments around the world who are trying to restrict their citizens from trading bitcoin in their countries, I believe it will still take a very long time for bitcoin to stand a chance to become the reserve currency of the world. In my opinion, I think the possibility of bitcoin to become the reserve currency of the world is extremely low.

Bitcoins are still to centralize to become a truly global reserve currency, the small unknown elite still hold to many bitcoins, most bitcoins owners have less than a whole bitcoins it's very few addresses who controls 50% of all bitcoins.
Bitcoins needs to be better re disputed among a wider crowd than the few people who holds bitcoins now.
In a few years, bitcoins cut be a new digital reserve currency, but we need many millions to hold fraction of a bitcoins and hundreds of thousands of people, to be owners of one or more bitcoins, before bitcoins really become a global reserve currency.

I have the courage to assume that in the future it is real. In addition, imagine that the number of bitcoins is limited and there is constant deflation. With all the desire, when Bitcoin becomes a resource of mass use, it will be impossible to eliminate or crush it. This system will be able to support itself.

And what is most interesting is that world leaders know about it. Therefore, a matter of time. I think this will happen, but not quickly. It takes years for everything to fall into place.

It remains for us so far only to observe what is happening ...

Currently with the coin's statistics, I don't think Bitcoin can become the reserve currency of the world. Presently the coin is a great investment asset and it will take the coin many years to become a mainstream currency.
For that the coin will have to lose its volatile nature and become quite stable as it is needed for a strong economy.
Also, the coin needs to be totally accepted in the financial market among all the financial institutions.
The coin's decentralised nature also poses a threat as due to it, the coin is not bound to any rules and regulations which is need of the market.

Yes. There's still opposition from world governments into recognizing Bitcoin as a legal medium of exchange for people to use in their daily lives. While Bitcoin lives on the Internet, not everyone is permitted to gain access to it, if the government restricts it. For Bitcoin to achieve the status of a reserve currency of the world, it needs to be accepted as a legal currency in every country worldwide. Due to Bitcoin's decentralization, it's threating government's current economic system, which explains why some countries have devised laws against it. However, if Bitcoin becomes centralized, then it would gather the likes of banks and governments worldwide.

Despite this, I believe that there's no reason to worry about this, since Bitcoin will always serve as an alternative currency to Fiat. Without a doubt, a centralized currency will become the reserve currency of the world. However, it's a matter of time before the US Dollar remains as such, or another currency would take its place. For the meantime, Bitcoin could be the reserve currency of all the cryptocurrencies on the market today. Just my thoughts ;D

Yes that's true bitcoin is getting more and more popular, and many other altcoin still depends on bitcoin a lot. Maybe because it's the first coin and it's not really easy to replace the first, moreover if the first is successful. But maybe other altcoin will have other chance later in the future. Begin to be better and doesn't depend on bitcoin anymore.
But i think although that means bitcoin is the best in cryptocurrency, it doesn't apply in the real world. Since i think usd is still better and it'll be hard to replace usd, although i like bitcoin a lot and i'll be happy if it becomes more popular than before.

even though bitcoin is not a real currency. but the use of bitcoin is almost the same as real money. so bitcoin can be used for fiat currency. but there are still many countries that are still opposed to the circulation of bitcoin. so btc isn't used in real currency transactions.

It has a high chance to become a reserve if majority of the people agrees to make it centralized with a stable price or value but this idea will be bloody because a lot of people will surely oppose to it.

If there will be a central governance for Bitcoin and its price will stable it could be a reserve crypto currency for digital goods but this will take a long period of time and there will be tremendous amounts of discussions about this because not every people like this kind of aspect and opposing people are expected. Some of the reasons why other people don't like this kind of centralization idea are the facts that those people are the ones that bought Bitcoin at the highest price. And of course, there are also whales with a huge amount of Bitcoin that wanted to control the market and against the centralization idea.

Bitcoin will definitely be a store of value for the future. I can see it being used as a Gold-like type of investment for individuals and possibly countries like China. The good thing is people can already trade their Bitcoins to Gold and vice-versa on places like Vaultoro (https://www.smartbitcoininvestments.com/how-to-buy-gold-with-bitcoin/#1_vaultoro).

As for reserve currency, I don't think it has the potential to serve as money for most people around the world. Other types of cryptocurrencies will likely have to enter the fold and serve as crypto-paper money.

The US cant handle the burden of keeping its Dollar as reserve currency for the world. This will going to implode the US economy sooner or later. There are many economists who have already predicted this about Dollar and we will be needing a reserve currency which is not the currency of some country.

Yes. USD being the current reserve currency of the world, would be too hard to replace in the future. I've once thought about Bitcoin becoming the reserve currency of the world, because of its increasing popularity over the course of time. However, I've found out that it'll be nearly impossible for the pioneer cryptocurrency to achieve said status unless it becomes centralized. Only then, governments and banks around the world could easily manipulate it and enforce AML at will. With Bitcoin's current state, it's impossible to track down every user with the purpose to freeze access to their funds.

This makes it unideal for a reserve currency of the world, unlike the USD which is backed by controlled by the US government. Eventually, as blockchain technology becomes studied by such entity, the USD could change from being a physical currency to being "digital cash". Then, the USD might remain as the reserve currency of the world in the future, or another currency would prevail over the USD.

Nevertheless, what matters is that Bitcoin has become a global currency which anyone could use without restrictions. It may not be the reserve currency of the world, but it's a store of value which has gained the trust of many people in the mainstream world over time. Just my thoughts ;D

For me it might not be that easy to fill the USD's role as a real currency. We know for a fact that indeed bitcoin is really a wonderful and useful cryptocurrency, yet we have to consider how quickly it can become very volatile which maybe bad for a currency. We also know that bitcoin is not being governed by anybody and therefore regulating the prices may just be difficult. We know how any government needs to have the power to regulate its own currency for economic balance. So for me it is too early for bitcoin to replace dollar or it might not really be a big possibility in the future.

I don't think so because no one has control over bitcoin. Government has no control of bitcoin because it is decentralized, unlike gold which has physical value and people can actually use it as a reserved currency.
Bitcoin is not that much different from gold with the difference that it has not physical form, but governments do not use bitcoin or gold as reserves because they are too comfortable with the fiat system they have created even if they know that at the end the system cannot sustain itself for long but they are fine with that since they have stole money from people for decades thanks to fiat.

In some ways bitcoin already is a global reserve currency.

Particularly regarding the global BTCl network, which is already  well established.

Bitcoin doesn't need permission from government to be global p2p currency.

More and more people are waking up to what this means.

The giant fiat currency bubble looming over the entire world is going to go 'pop' fairly soon, imho!

Yes. The US Dollar continues to be a strong currency that's trusted by many countries in the world. For it to be replaced, it needs to fall in value which is very unlikely. Even with the popularity of cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, no other currency has been able to replace the USD. For this and many other reasons, Bitcoin cannot be the reserve currency of the world anytime soon. While it's still practical and functional as a global currency that's easily accessible by anyone, it'll be nearly impossible for it to become the standard or reserve currency of the world because it's decentralized.

As such, a reserve currency needs to be controlled and manipulated by a central bank and a government. Since Bitcoin lacks these properties, no single entity could control its supply, or enforce regulations. Centralized currencies are the best bet for a reserve currency, and the USD fits the bill nicely. Whenever it'll still be the USD, or another currency like the Euro, we do not know for certainty. However, we do know that Bitcoin will continue to grow over time until it becomes a viable alternative towards Fiat.

Nevertheless, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin are unpredictable and no one could know what will happen with them in the future. Whenever Bitcoin becomes a reserve currency (by becoming centralized) or not, it's yet to be seen. Just my opinion :)

no it is not difficult to convert local currencies into digital currencies today , how much more if we are already in the future ? with the advanced technology and more inventions or innovations , im pretty sure that everything in the future will now be possibe and everything will be so easier .

bitcoin and other cryptos is not also a reserve currency because they arent only for display or for reserve because we are already using them on our daily lives .

it is very risky to force all world people to change their money into crypto / bitcoin.

why ? i dont  see any risk with it .  changing thier money to cryptos is actually more beneficial because they can do cool things like online shoping , paying ,  gambling , etc .

this is already  happening ,  crypto and local currencies are now working as one because we can exchange them vice versa .

Bitcoin digital currency, meaning: Bitcoin is intangible, or held and touched.
Bitcoin is sold and bought based on the country's legal currency, for example, one Bitcoin price $... To be traded in certain countries.

In this case it is impossible for bitcoin to become one of the world's reserve currencies, because all countries now have their own currencies, to be officially traded.

Hard to replace US Dollar as currency reserve. Bitcoin is decentralized system and its need more than regulation from government to be world reserve. But i do believe bitcoin is good long term investment like gold

That's certainly true, mate. For Bitcoin to become the reserve currency of the world, it would need to become centralized and regulated by the government. Otherwise, it would be nearly impossible for Bitcoin to achieve said status as it's decentralized. The huge factor which prevents Bitcoin from becoming a reserve currency of the world is the huge volatility in prices. Hence, if Bitcoin would've been more stable, then it could've been used more as a currency than as a store of value, IMO.

However, as well as you do, I believe that Bitcoin is a great investment for the long term like Gold. Eventually, people will demand the pioneer cryptocurrency once more, resulting in new ATHs that were never seen. While this is not indicative of Bitcoin becoming a reserve currency, it'll mean that Bitcoin would become extremely popular as an alternative currency from traditional Fiat. ;)

I think bitcoins will eventually become the world's reserve given that it reaches a certain amount of supply that it can finally reach every sector of the world including the poor. I guess we'll have to wait a little more and wait in the background of it all. We can expect bitcoins may achieve such feat.

Instead of becoming the world's reserve currency, it could become the global currency of the people within the future. Bitcoin is decentralized now, which makes it unfriendly to banks and governments worldwide. Unless it becomes centralized for any reason, I don't see it becoming the reserve currency of the world. I've once thought about such possibility but given the fact that centralized Fiat currencies are too dominant in the mainstream world, it's very unlikely that Bitcoin will become a reserve currency within the future. In the end, the reserve currency of the world will be the US Dollar (as it is right now) or another currency with greater spending power than the USD. ::)

A cryptocurrency will inevitably become the global currency of the virtual life, or the internet, where an increasing amount of people are residing, but I don't think it will be Bitcoin. It will begin with cryptocurrency in general and then everyone will gradually lean towards an altcoin with more benefits.

I think we're heading towards an organized virtual shared reality of sorts in which value will predominantly be exchanged in a digitized, global society. Playing a part in traditional countries would be outdated, unsustainable and obsolete. Not going to happen for another few generations though.

Bitcoin is virtual currency, it decentralized, it very volatile and it a liberation of common from the government. Therefore, there is no chance for bitcoin to be world currency reserve because the government will want to force and control bitcoin to the extent of changing the protocol led by Satoshi when he implemented bitcoin.

It is the first crypto currency which introduces a modern economical concepts through out the world but it is found totally contrary to the present form of economy  which we follow at present. The crypto currency or bitcoin is found deem suitable to the modern era.Since bitcoin will not effect any type of inflation this can be operated parallel to the official currency where the countries are in financial crash down. Bitcoin could help to overcome some countries of the world while they were effected severe financial crash down to their economy like Greece, Japan and Brazil etc. In such a circumstance bitcoin can be used to support the  financial stability of any country while they are in trouble so bitcoin  as a reserve currency of the world.

As of now, the United States Dollar is acting as the reserve currency of the world. Replacing it is not a very easy task. But if Bitcoin gets more acceptability in the future, then there is a chance of that happening.

If you look at Bitcoin's current model, it's decentralized. This means that it's impossible to become the reserve currency of the world in its current state, as no one can control its supply or issue the same. For Bitcoin to achieve its status as a reserve currency, it would need to become centralized without a doubt. Only that way, governments could easily manipulate it by either issuing more coins (inflation) or restrict access to the same. Like I said before, I once thought that Bitcoin could become a reserve currency of the world because it was growing in popularity.

However, upon realizing that most governments have been against decentralization, it's hard to believe that Bitcoin will become the reserve currency of the world anytime soon. Despite this, the US Dollar might continue to be the world's reserve currency for quite some time. Even if the US Dollar gets displaced in the future, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin won't get chance of becoming the world's reserve currency. Instead, another centralized Fiat currency issued by the government will take the lead in case the USD fails. It could be the Euro, the GBP, the Yen, or even the Chinese Yuan. :)

Bitcoin is global. It could be worth $213,000 without necessarily replacing the US money supply, so no problem about that.

One of the best posts in this thread, would merit if I could. I fully agree that USD will not last much longer, so that begs the question which currency is going to take over? It's either going to be Yuan or Bitcoin. With all the investments and innovation plans China has from now till 2050 it's going to be a serious contender to the throne.

When we keep innovating, newer and better technologies emerge. AI, robots, IOT and much more are going to radically change the way we live right now. So imagine a super advanced future, I don't think we will still be using a FIAT currency as reserve currency. Perhaps USD will be replaced by the Yuan in the coming years and will eventually be replaced by Bitcoin.

Reserve currency? I don't think so because Bitcoin is base on internet which cannot be controlled. Also, new cryptocurrency might sprung that could beat Bitcoin one day.

I think not. I think bitcoin supply in the whole world is too low compared to the total amount of fiat present per country and around the world. I can't agree that bitcoins can be the next world currency but it can be the building blocks for the coming world currency. Bitcoins have laid the foundation.

I don't agree with your argument. It is always good to have a currency which is protected against inflation. If you believe that the total supply (21 million) is too low, then we can do a redenomination  and split 1 BTC to 1,000 new BTC. Then the total supply would be 21 billion coins.

There is no need to do that. Bitcoin was created to be divisible to the 8th decimal digit (1 satoshi) exactly to be able to address the issue Abikyi is rising.

I think that someday it is very possible for bitcoin to become one of the world's currencies that will be taken into account and will be used globally like a dollar. Now it's been proven that every day there is an increase in bitcoin users. They use bitcoin because bitcoin offers convenience, speed and mercy in transnational transactions. In contrast to fiat currencies that require too high taxes and procedures that are also less simple. However, bitcoin and fiat currencies cannot replace each other. The two currencies will work together to complement their functions.

With time bitcoin and blockchain have made the market very stable and it is good for business transactions which were difficult and time consuming in the past now it is very easy for every one to pay online with in seconds and if you are used to investment many of new crypto are in the market with a high KYC value so it is the world reserve currency that when there is a shortage of money in fiat with you you can use this as well for your need.

Reserve currency? I don't think so because Bitcoin is base on internet which cannot be controlled. I think Bitcoin would end up as a way of payment only or an alternative currency in a certain country. That's what I think about it. Also, new cryptocurrency might sprung that could beat Bitcoin one day.

That's certainly true, mate. Still, the benefits of a reserve currency that goes beyond borders are numerous. With the inception of Bitcoin and Blockchain technology, it's possible that a reserve currency would become accessible by anyone around the world as it used the Internet and Blockchain technology. However, Bitcoin and most cryptocurrencies would not fit the bill nicely due to their decentralized design. A centralized cryptocurrency such as Ripple (XRP) might well serve the purpose as the reserve currency of the world since it can be easily manipulated by governments.

Now the question will be whenever the US Dollar will remain as the reserve currency of the future or not. If it becomes replaced by another currency, then it would probably be the Euro or the Sterling Pound. However, one thing for sure, is that such currency will make use of a Blockchain for security, transparency, and borderless transactions. Just my opinion :)

maybe it will take a long time and requires some long discussion because global finance will still refer to real money while bitcoin is money that comes from the digital world and maybe someday if bitcoin can be applied into real currency, and it will happen that bitcoin can make global currency reserves

Bitcoin is only an alternative world currency and not a world reserve currency because its existence is difficult to accept throughout the world to be inaugurated by all countries. even so, bitcoin can help overcome the economic problems of a country so that many are used by its users as an alternative world currency

According to me, bitcoin will not be the world's reserve currency, but Bitcoin or cryptocurrency will be the world's alternative currency. because we can send it anywhere without obstacles and without distress.
maybe what you are saying is that it is true that bitcoin was created as a crypto currency that uses technological advancements and developments in the past and all possibilities can happen even maybe the crypto currency becomes a fiat currency reserve currency
Maybe Bitcoin in the future will be a reserve currency for all or maybe it will be used as an alternative currency, if its value is acceptable as equal to the present currency or more, because the government will surely make their own crypto currency in the future, but who knows? It could be the opposite.

the world reserve currency is a currency held in large amounts by the government and includes a part of foreign exchange. and since the 20th century the USD has been established as the strongest reserve currency. and in my opinion bitcoin will not be able to replace the position of the dollar. because even though bitcoin is now popular and many know it, there are still many countries that reject bitcoin. whereas to become a world reserve currency must be approved by other communities and countries and also decentralized bitcoin.

Inevitably bitcoin's indeed the most widely used cryptocurrency than other cryptocurrencies, this thing is evident from the many service providers or exchanges that serve bitcoin selling/buying transactions wherever we are.

Now the development of Alt-coin is no longer dependent on bitcoin, because of the many facts that show, that the growth of cryptocurrency is actually very dependent on most of its active users.

Bitcoin is very likely to be used as a reserve currency especially for countries affected by inflation, such as Zimbabwe and other countries. But also, bitcoin will function as a parallel moving currency along with the fiat currency.

You do have a point there, mate. Bitcoin works well as a "reserve currency" for third world countries, mostly because their currencies are worthless. For example, in Venezuela, people have been using Bitcoin as a hedge against their traditional Fiat currency. Since the Bolivar currency is highly inflated, their only choice to gain greater spending power is via the use of Bitcoin itself. Since the pioneer cryptocurrency is not issued by any central authority such as a Bank or a Government, its value is dependent on the people itself.

The unique characteristics of Bitcoin assimilates those of true Gold. That explains the reason why many people in countries like Venezuela, and even India, have been using Bitcoin for their daily needs. However, because Bitcoin is decentralized, some governments have been opposing it every step of the way. India has announced that it will ban Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies altogether, while Venezuela has shown a certain level of opposition against Bitcoin. Because of this, Bitcoin cannot be the reserve currency of the world, leaving the path open for centralized fiat currencies such as the US Dollar and the Euro.

However, if Bitcoin becomes centralized, then there's a huge possibility that it might become the world's reserve currency in the future. Banks and governments worldwide will embrace the cryptocurrency, as it's truly a unique form of digital gold. Until then, only Ripple has a higher chance of becoming the world's reserve currency if it becomes adopted by many banks worldwide. Just my thoughts ;D

No I don't think it will be either the Euro nor the Sterling Pound. They are all the same - fiat currencies with their value derived from debt. If the US dollar gets dethroned, they are all really only the equivalents.

I think it will be Special Drawing Rights or CO2 certificates or something exotic just as those. Or maybe bitcoin. Or maybe we will go back to gold standard. We'll have to see when it happens (not if it happens)

Bitcoin will never become the reserve currency of the world. All countries will prefer like to hoard gold. Now USD is not so good as reserve currency, the value of USD is always decreasing and bitcoin price is unpredictable so gold is the only one choice for those countries who want to make sure their country economy good.

Might be or not but for me, it's hard to make it as the reserve currency since bitcoin is decentralized and no one can have a control over it. Some countries or government might disagree on making it as their currency. They still prefer gold than cryptocurrency.

It has been foretold that a cashless economy or society will emerge. The US$ and majority or all of the world's known legal currencies will seize to exist. Bitcoin may be decentralized and that the government may not have any or full control over it, but I'm pretty sure they'll find a way to identify who owns BTC and then try to manipulate these people or even worse, force them to give up their holdings. This may be far into the future, but it is the most probable thing I see will happen.

No, Bitcoin or any other decentralized cryptocurrency can never become a reserve world currency. It will be used primarily by individuals, that is, individuals and as a means of payment between individuals and legal entities. It is unlikely that states and their bodies will use bitcoin in international relations and in their domestic activities. There are many reasons and the most basic among them is the decentralized nature of Bitcoin and its high price volatility.

Probably. However, there's a slight possibility that Fiat currencies will continue to exist within the future. Given how difficult it is to stop decentralized cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, governments would still support Fiat over crypto. Traditional fiat currencies would simply shift towards a blockchain system (either public or private) for the masses to use. The benefits of this would be greater transparency, eco-friendliness (no need to print paper money which is harmful to the environment), and convenience (by not having to carry cold-hard cash at all).

As such, I believe that a centralized fiat currency has better chances of becoming the world's reserve currency than Bitcoin. Right now, the US Dollar has the lead, but everything could change anytime soon. No matter what fiat currency it'll be, one thing for sure, is that the economy will become fully digitized within the future.

Nonetheless, it's best to name Bitcoin as the “People's Currency” rather than the “World's Reserve Currency”. If it remains decentralized, then it'll remain with that title for many years to come. However, if it doesn't, then the chances of becoming the world's reserve currency would be greater than before. Just my opinion :)

I think bitcoin cannot become the reserved currency of the world as long as all countries or most countries in the world don't accept it yet. It needs the agreement of many countries to be a reserved currency.
It will be hard to happen since these factors:
1. Bitcoin has limited number
2. The price is unstable and volatile
3. It's decentralized
4. Every country has different exchange rates of national currency
5. Bitcoin has been widespread with various anonymous holders

I hope so as imo the supply is good for economic sense (or do I have a good sense about it). But comparing to gold that the supply is yet unknown plus the difficulty to trace and mine, bet on the one that is finite and measurable.

Good points. Based on this, Bitcoin could never become the reserve currency of the world. Its highly decentralized design, and open nature, makes it terrible as a world currency for the manipulation of banks and governments worldwide. While this is true, I do believe that Bitcoin will better fit its purpose as the People's Money in the future. Of course, it has its limitations, but over time, it's hoped that the pioneer cryptocurrency would improve in many ways, making it much easier to access it anywhere in the world.

One thing for sure is that the clock is ticking, which means that sooner or later, traditional fiat currencies (such as the USD) will transition into a blockchain of their own. The US Dollar has long obtained the trust of people worldwide, and that's why it’s been the reserve currency of the world for quite some time. Becoming a digital currency with its own blockchain backed by the US Government's Federal Reserve, would bring the US Dollar many benefits such as transparency, eco-friendliness, and more. As such, it should only be a matter of time before this becomes a reality since after all, Blockchain tech is posed to improve into a scalable and secure system for the masses.

Nonetheless, what matters most is that decentralized cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, have remained as viable alternatives towards Fiat. In any case fiat fails, then decentralized cryptos would become the number one choice for many individuals across the globe. Just my opinion :)

There is only one reserve currency in the world and that is gold. This has been the case for the past hundreds (or even thousands) of years. A relatively new entrant like Bitcoin has no chance in breaking this monopoly.

Reserve currency is the generally accepted currency in the world, which is used to create a reserve of funds in the central banks of other countries for the purpose of international settlements. Initially, the reserve currency was the British pound sterling, which played a major role in international payments. Together with the pound sterling, the US dollar gradually began to be used as an international payment and reserve currency, which soon became dominant.
The euro is the second reserve currency in use.
If we dig deeper, we can see that over time, the role of the reserve currency was occupied by different monetary systems. Now also several monetary systems are claiming this role.
Monetary relations are constantly evolving and becoming more perfect. Now in this area came electronic money. Therefore, sooner or later the time will come when an electronic reserve currency will be needed. I think that Bitcoin may well take this place.

The next stage will be Bitcoin. And this will not be the reserve currency but the main and only one.

Under severe circumstances, Bitcoin would become the number one currency choice for anyone around the world to transact with. However, if fiat currencies like the US Dollar remain dominant in our world, then I see no reason why Bitcoin should become the only currency for anything in life. Bitcoin is better suited as an alternative currency for times of need. Considering that it's decentralized, no single entity controls it. Which means that if Bitcoin remains as is, it could be well-suited as a cryptocurrency for emergencies or simply as a store of value.

Over time, Bitcoin might become the world's most popular medium of exchange. Thanks to the Blockchain's inception with Bitcoin, traditional fiat currencies (USD, EUR, etc) may shift to their own private blockchains backed by various governments worldwide. As such, even if Bitcoin could not become the reserve currency of the world, it would effectively achieve said purpose in another way (such as a fiat currency using blockchain tech). Based on this, Bitcoin would be part of our daily lives either directly or indirectly. Just my thoughts ;D

In my opinion, that will not happen, because bitcoin was not created to become a reserve for the world economy. Bitcoin is decentralized and independent. Governments in the world are unlikely to accept bitcoin as part of the real economy. This cannot be combined because this basis is different.

That would not be ideal, I think something tangible should be the reserve for many countries, such as gold, petroleum or minerals, but bitcoin was not designed for that, in fact for btc to be successful must be in circulation, the problem of keeping it as store value is what we have so in the first place.

This makes sense. Governments wouldn't allow a decentralized cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin take over their economic supremacy. All they want is to exercise authority over the supply and issuance of money. As such, Bitcoin in its current state cannot fulfill the requirements to be classified as a reserve currency of the world. If at some point within the future, Bitcoin becomes centralized, then such scenario will happen by then.

Otherwise, the USD would continue to dominate the world as a reserve currency for quite some time. Speaking of centralization, Ripple (XRP) has a better chance of becoming the world's reserve currency than any other popular crypto known to date. It may not be directly XRP itself, but it could be the same USD or EUR issued within the XRP Ledger (obtaining the full benefits of a blockchain). Despite this, what matters is that Bitcoin is the "People's Currency", which will remain that way if it preserves its decentralization. Just my thoughts ;D

Why not? As times go by, the world is becoming more technically advanced and digital currency is very logical to use in today's world. Currently, bitcoin cannot be used because of its volatility, but it continues to develop, which means that it can be used as a full-fledged currency.

Title: Re: Will Bitcoin become the reserve currency of the world?

hmmm, I don't think so. I don't think Bitcoin will become the world's reserve currency, but I think that USDT or TUSD will be the world's reserve currency. USDT and TUSD have proven their price stability when the market is bearish like now, therefore I feel that one of the two coins is suitable to be the world's reserve currency...

Stablecoins are pegged to the USD. This means, that the reserve currency is the USD instead of a specific stablecoin. As for me, I don't trust stablecoins anymore since they've gone way below the promised value of 1 USD. The term "stablecoin" is just a niche to make believe that it'll never go below the 1 USD mark. But, it's nearly impossible to achieve considering that stablecoins are traded in the free market, where it's prone to either higher or lower prices by their traders.

If at some point in the future, the USD fails, then another currency might take its place as the reserve currency of the world. Considering how many banks and governments worldwide have been researching about blockchain technology, the reserve currency of the future might be issued either on its own blockchain or an already established blockchain. If they take the path of an established blockchain, then they'll choose the XRP Ledger since it's centralized and regulatory compliant.

Then, it could be the USD, EURO, YEN, or YUAN issued on the XRP Ledger for quick settlements around the world at cheap costs. For the reserve currency to be used all around the world, it would need to be implemented into a blockchain network. However, decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum would never become a reserve currency because of previously stated factors. A centralized cryptocurrrency would better serve a purpose of a reserve currency, and XRP fits the bill nicely. Just my opinion :)

No, it is impossible. Bitcoin is a decentralized platform, government or anyone can not control it, so bitcoin can not become the world's reserve currency. If it becomes the world's reserve currency, bad organizations will easily take advantage of this to carry out their bad activities.

The road is long. Well, Bitcoin is at least on the road. There are so many countries in the world where Bitcoin can be used as a mode of payment. That is good enough already considering the level of power and influence of the banks and the governments. At least it was able to put up a good fight. But then if you ask whether it will be replacing USD anytime soon, I don't think so. For now, it is enough that Bitcoin is a better alternative currency of USD, a more efficient one.

Exactly. Bitcoin suits more as an alternative to fiat rather than a replacement. In this world, I've learned that there's no such thing as a predominant decentralized currency, since governments are always in control of everything. They would do whatever it is in their power to stop decentralized cryptocurrencies from taking over, while centralized money (like USD and EUR) takes the lead. For Bitcoin to become the reserve currency of the world, governments would need to disappear (which is very unlikely) causing FIAT to become non-existent.

However, we all know that's never going to happen, and Bitcoin, as well as, other cryptocurrencies, will continue to live alongside FIAT for many years to come. I believe that Bitcoin is better being the "People's Money" than the "Reserve Currency" of the world. In any case Bitcoin becomes centralized, then there's a high possibility that it'll become the world's reserve currency. Just my opinion :)

BTC works as a reserve currency for crypto world. But there is still a distinct and uncoressable border between crypto world and fiat currency world. I don't believe that these two worlds will overlap any time soon unless some compromises are made from both sides.

No it will never be a reserved coin because it can't be access by anyone. It will be inconvenience for someone who doesn't know what bitcoin is. It might be an alternative but it will not become a reserved coin in the future.

I don't think it is going to be the reserve currency of the world. Then it got to be owned by some leading country but it contradicts to the idea of crypto. It does not belong to one owner

That's certainly true, mate. There are still areas in the world where the Internet cannot be accessed. As such, Bitcoin cannot be used by people within those areas, since it largely depends on the Internet to work as intended. Recently, it has been announced that offline Bitcoin transactions could be performed by using the goTenna device and the Samourai Wallet. If this becomes highly successful and popular, then Bitcoin could reach areas that lack Internet access.

Even if the Internet would become accessible by the whole world, Bitcoin simply cannot achieve the status of a reserve currency because of many reasons that were mentioned previously. That means, that Fiat currency (like the USD) will still dominate the world, while cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum would only serve their purpose as alternative currencies. Nonetheless, anything could happen as our world is changing in a fast pace. Just my thoughts ;D

I think its too early to tackle about a reservation for countries currency, but what I’m sure of is bitcoin is a reserve money of every cryptonians specially bitcoiners as we are holding this for future uses, and some of us are reserving those crypto assets for their children’s and love ones.this is enough reason for bitcoin to be called as reserved currency

We won’t need to take things too far, let dollar remain as reserve currency and bitcoin remain as the most used currency. Being reserve means itbeill be subjected to manipulation at will by some cabals or a kind of centralized system. All reserve serve a purpose which manipulation is one and it is always printed when there is need for it. These are against bitcoin and cryptocurrency rule.

the reason why bitcoin holders hold bitcoin is not because they are reserving it for the future use but because they are using it as an investment tool to be able to earn a profit  . some holds bitcoin but they are using it for paying of for buying stuffs online & offline .   there is no point for us to reserve a crypto because there is alot of other currency out there especially fiats where the banks can print unlimited amounts  .  bitcoin can be rather called an alternative currency of the world  .

Do you think that today's market will be accepted as it is? Because, while BTC's acceptance is difficult, BTC's becoming as reserve money in the future is like imagining.
That can be said yes, it's all because we will face a different era in the future. I think the use of digital currencies is a must. the future will definitely be more sophisticated and everything will definitely be digital, just as books at this time have started towards the digital era. let alone a very complex financial system, digitalization is an answer to being able to make transactions far more flexible in the future.

maybe, anything can be happen.
if all people know and use it im sure of it. every country must support each other although they have different value.
for now, its difficult to be currency, and less people use bitcoin as alternative payment. people still think about income, and government will say that bitcoin is digital asset.

I don't think so, because I don't think that our current currencies will be gone eventually. All currencies will remain and bitcoin will also our option to be used when making payment especially online so, I think bitcoin will be an alternative currency.

If the question is, would Bitcoin become the reserve currency for fiat? If all people start using Bitcoin then it could be. But I don't think that governments would allow that to happen. During the huge price surge that happened more than a year ago most governments around the world started putting regulations on Bitcoin and some even banned its use.
This wasn't simply because they were trying to protect people from a very volatile asset or to protect against market fluctuations that Bitcoin could create, it was because they worried that they would not have control over the money supply, if more and more people started putting their money into cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin can actually take on the role that gold had before it was unanimously decided that currencies don't have to be backed by commodities, many decades ago. If used for that purpose, it would have most of the advantages of gold, and almost none of the disadvantages.

As for me, bitcoin is quite too far from being the reserve currency of the world but it would be the best digital currency that we could ever have. We are actually using it as a currency and it's being used to transact faster and more convenient so I think it could go beyond being just a reserved currency in the future.

- Agree, bitcoin will not be able to reach the position of the world reserve currency because the support and popularity of bitcoin is still not enough, as we can see, the number of people using and working with bitcoin, it still accounts for only a few percent of the world's population, combined with many regulations and barriers from the government, that makes bitcoin impossible to penetrate into many people's lives. In addition, bitcoin is always considered a place to store and generate profits over time, a passive income, it makes the role to become the currency of the Bitcoin very faint

That's certainly true, mate. We're all transitioning towards a completely digital era, at a slow pace. Which means, that eventually Bitcoin will dominate our very lives as the world adapts to it. Once this happens, then Bitcoin will stand alongside digital Fiat for many generations. Of course, we cannot deny that it's virtually impossible for Bitcoin to become the reserve currency of the world because of many obvious reasons. But what Bitcoin can become is an alternative to Fiat where people can decide their financial future.

Nonetheless, Bitcoin is the reserve currency of the whole crypto market instead of the world. This all means that Bitcoin has already won as a popular alternative to Fiat that will last for many years to come. Just my thoughts ;D

if in my opinion. actually bitcoin is very good for us to make it as a reserve currency for the world. if you look at a country that has received bitcoin as a currency. it is very good. like studying employees with bitcoin
yeah it gives a lot of people choices for spending, and of course it will be much more fun, you can use bitcoin or fiat, as you like. bitcoin will be like that in the future, we know fiat will never disappear and bitcoin will be another option for fiat, when many other people are bored with fiat.

I don't think people will get tired using fiat because money is still money and people will not going to get bored using money and fiat is very useful for it buying stuffs everywhere because it is a physical money and very useful. Bitcoin will be our alternative option when paying but not as a reserve currency.

Not any experts but looking at the nature and volatility of bitcoins, it isn't suppose to be helpful for the banks to adopt bitcoin as reserve currency, they have less control over production, volatility like fiat does locally, bitcoin for me suppose to be a exchange medium public to worldwide, yet secure with anonymity which ordinary people couldn't access to, banks had wired transaction but businesses already but its just abit more expensive than cryptocurrency, but crypto needs more adoptions

I don't think that bitcoin become the reserve currency of the world in future. If will Bitcoin become the reserve currency then some major problem create through this. Online huge market influenced by btc if btc become reserve currency then this huge market fall down because at this situation most of the online site don't easily accept btc.

...what are those major problems that will be created if Bitcoin will going to be a reserve currency?..as much as i know,,it will be more convenient and easy to use if Bitcoin will become legalize and accepted by many people,,though it will not really replpace fiat currency but instead it will going to help people to easily access digital currency and make faster transactions with regards to paying bills or buying and shopping online..though Bitcoin price,,it will not be easy for many to accept Bitcoin as mode of payment..

But the trend is going there already, soon or later they wil follow this path. For this time may be it still can't but how about 10 years later, we will never know right? And many of them already adopt bitcoin like crazy. What I heard of is some of the country already trying to adopt the blockchain tech into their life. So I can say for the current time may be it is not bitcoin time yet but soon it will be reserved

Well yeah it could be possible but there could be more.than bitcoin as a reserved currency and that is the propertynl listed in you. This is consider as asset and it is a good idea to have an asset so that one day if there are emergencie's need to be areange and has difficulty with money then bitcoin or the property asset could be the source for the medication.

That's certainly true, mate. If a currency cannot be controlled, then it's hard to say that it will become a reserve currency of the world. Bitcoin being a highly popular cryptocurrency is still behind Fiat by a long shot, due to its volatility and regulatory uncertainty. A reserve currency needs to be stable, but at the same time, centralized backed by a trusted authority. In this case, the USD is the reserve currency of the world and it has been doing good for a very long time.

Still though, what could happen in the future is that Bitcoin and Fiat live alongside each other within the mainstream world. USD might remain as the world's reserve currency, while BTC will remain as the reserve currency of crypto land. In many ways, Bitcoin has already won as a viable alternative against Fiat.

Nonetheless, the only way for Bitcoin to become the reserve currency of the world is if it becomes centralized. Other than that, the USD will continue to dominate our world for a very long time. Just my thoughts ;D
