From all of the game keys I see on offer from so many people on these forums, it's terriblely obvious that there is much overlap between the bitcoin community and gamers who use Steam.  I therefore suggest that current Steam account holders politely request that VALVe & Steam add bitcoin payments to their list of accepted forms of payment.  They already use quite a few, and I'm sure that they would pursue the issue if they were made aware of the demand.

There is a big market about them, but no one is supporting Bitcoin currency! :(

I definitely have to agree, I've actually thought to myself "I would buy this game if I could purchase it with Bitcoins".
To use a third party just gives me the feeling that I have to jump through hoops to get the game because Steam seems like the perfect platform to use Bitcoins natively.

I think selling and buying items or games on the steam network is plausible, but not practical.  I can tell they are just trying to scrape by as is.  Valve seems to focus most of their attention on game development rather than production of steam services.  While it's a great program, I don't see it turning into the next Amazon. 

On the other hand, I've got a handful of TF2 items I'd be willing to sell for some BTC.  Send me a private message if you are interested.   :P

there is also www.steamcoin.com . although it doesn't even show up in a google "steam bitcoin" search, the topic on the forum does. they really need to improve their visibility...

This is one of the most important threads in all of bitcointalk. If Steam starts supporting Bitcoin payments that would be it. Purchasing games for Bitcoin?

Give me the name of 1 serious company that sells AAA titles or even indie game titles that accept Bitcoin!!

What is the problem of buying Steam games for BTC without Valve officially accepting BTC?
1. Alice buys a steam game for EUR/USD.
2. Valve/Steam happily accepts the EUR/USD payment.
3. Bob buys it from Alice with Bitcoin.
4. Bob thinks that now Valve/Steam will have a good reason to accept Bitcoin.

Damn, I forgot to mention I was planning to buy a certain game. Regardsless I've contacted the game company behind it asking if they take payment directly for Bitcoin, so never mind.

I offered an open source game dev the Steam price of Aquaria + 0.5*Aquaria ~15€ in BTC and by my willingness to pay in Bitcoin I got the game as a gift on Steam from a game dev that had worked on the game!!   :o Totally unexpected in every way. I was told that my enthusiasm was appreciated and that I can keep the Bitcoins that I offered.  :)

I'm going to try to spend this on opengameart gifting libre art just as Aquaria was gifted to me: "The gift that keeps on giving"  8)

What I want to say is that if you are really willing to pay a game dev in Bitcoin, they may actually give you a response that you did not expect. I am not saying you are going to get games for free since I doubt this happens often or anything, but also know that HumbleBundle gives games to some people. Next time I'm going to ask HumbleBundle inc. if I could be given the games, as I'm willing to pay more than even the linux average on Steam if Bitcoin was accepted as a donation. It is worth a try!  ;)

Yeah, if we could buy every game in the steam store for Bitcoin, then that would be amazing. It would have to have a automated system though, I wouldn't want to wait more than 24 hours and I should imagine that it would be VERY busy.

Only way we can get Steam to accept is to petition.

No. There are groups on Steam though. One is called Bitcoin traders. Another one I think is called Bitcoin. Maybe there are more?
