I wonder what the cryptonightv7/heavy algo hashrate is going to be like under this bad boy.

almost 2k for a cpu though

1800 + 2%       = 1836  ..
Mobo Taichi       =  300

cost = 2136

cpu cooler         =   ............  I have stuff on hand
2x16gb > 32gb
1tb NVME ssd
case
psu
gpu

all on hand

it is very tempting to be state of the art

If you want to get one to play with... sure, go for it.  If you don’t like it, you can probably flip it and get most of your money back.  But from a mining ROI standpoint, you know it’s not going to be worth it.  Even if it does 2k CN, I could buy 8 RX 5xx (used) for the price of 1 chip and get 6-7k hash pretty easily.

not using under  250 watts ;D

But  I did decide to buy the taichi x399 from newegg today it will allow the 1950x or the new beast 2990wx.

I got multiple promos on the mobo

319 + 20 tax = 339 - 25 pay with master pass = 314 - 40 rebate = 274 - 50 dollar gift card promo = 224 -3 = 221 which is

cheap for that board.

It should do 2.4K on Monero, 8x an 8 core Ryzen. Lower clocks (across all cores) at stock but in my experience with 2 different Threadrippers is that they hash 20-25% over a Ryzen core to core ratio at the same clocks.... so they might do even better.

I'd be careful about overclocking on that x399 Taichi. It's a great motherboard but it's not designed for 250 watts like the second generation TR4 motherboards. I'm confident it will be ok at stock clocks, but I wouldn't overclock it. :)

Overclocking is a never a good thing for cpus like this, back in 2008 when i bought the i7 920, people were overclocking and overvolting, I overclocked and undervolted hehe, that cpu consumed almost 500 watts overclocked,  300w idle. If you luckily hit the silicon lottery then you can undervolt it and keep stock clock, cost wise this is not for mining.

This is just to say mine is bigger then yours ;D

I have always had very good CPUs but never a true state of the art pc.
I am tempted to do it.

I would hold out for the next ryzen 7nm, no point buying this right now.

The EPyc 7601 also same core/thread and cache size does 1750h/s monero, the pre-fork asic version.

https://www.servethehome.com/dual-amd-epyc-7601-cpus-can-offset-operational-costs-using-monero-mining/

This should be similar.

I built  two pc with and for  buysolar (my solar array partner) last year.

One has the 1950x ripper with four 1080tis and a 2tb ssd and 64gb ram

the other has an intel i9-7980 xe i think  2 1080tis a 1tb ssd and 64gb ram.

my best pcs in  my house

have ryzen 1800x
ryzen 2700

So when I see how the beasts work for buysolar I am thinking of scaling up myself.

I got 3 parts so far

the taichi mobo at 224  with all coupons
2x 16gb ram     at 220   with coupons   eBay 15%
1tb nvme m.2   at  240 with coupons  eBay 15%

I have a cooler
I have a case
I have a psu
I have 1080ti's

So do I cheap out and buy a 1920x for 404 with eBay 15% off

and wait till I find a deal on the 2990wx

Still would be the best pc I ever owned

and only 1085 out of pocket.

The eBay sale ends in 6 hours

404  for a new 1920x vs 1799  for a new 2990wx  yeah it is better  but not so sure about 1395 better.

I think you’d be better served going with the 1920 and using the leftover to get another 1080ti... just my thoughts...

The 32 core 64 thread beast is amazing, but at the initial price I don't think it's worth it when compared to getting a first gen TR 1950X at a third of the cost (maybe less with a good sale). If you have a good use for that many threads then the 2990X might still be worth it... or if mining Cryptonight based coins gets a big profitability boost for a few month it would help allot to offset the bigger price.  Either way you would have an absolute monster rig for any purpose you can think of.

I'd agree with taking the 1920X- there's a 'hype premium' on the 2990WX right now on top of all of that, and you're getting very nice bang for your buck buying a 1920X over the 2990WX. First gen threadripper prices (and Ryzen 1st Gen overall) have dipped a lot recently, and there's even 1920Xs for $319 on eBay right now from the Newegg store account (skip the $404)- eBay Link (https://www.ebay.com/p/AMD-Ryzen-Threadripper-1900x-8-core/8020459582?iid=302476446606&chn=ps)

newegg was a 1900  for 319

I got the 1920 for 400

so

all in all about 1075  for a monster..

and I will upgrade to the 2990wx when I can get it  cheap

Is there any dual-CPU mobo available for TR1's?
A dual-1950X would probably hash similarly to a 2990WX and still be cheaper... it'd just draw about 100W more (which isn't that much).

EDIT: alternatively, how do the EPYC server CPUs hash? One could get a dual-7401P and enjoy 48-core hashing madness! :D
EDIT 2: it looks like EPYC's are massively fast: https://www.servethehome.com/amd-epyc-obliterates-threadripper-monero-cryptonight-mining/ I might really look into getting an EPYC-based setup if the claimed numbers really do stack up. I need to upgrade my HTPC anyway sooooo... :)
EDIT 3: on second thought, a dual-7401p would probably hash around 3KH/s on CN. That's 1.5 Vegas... Same power draw. You'd still need quad-channel RAM, an expensive dual-CPU server mobo... Meh. Maybe less worth it than I originally thought.

No you can't, P versions are 1socket only, if you want dual, you need to buy cpu without P mark!!!

Aha.
And the "non-P" are obviously more expensive too.
Makes it even less compelling in the grand scheme of things... unless, of course, you want to build a proper server - and use it for mining too.

What issues did you encounter with the 1920x?  I've set up 3 Threadrippers so far for my wife's business and they all were able to do the "lock pages in memory" that you access through gpedit in Windows 10.

I paid 404 for the 1920x.

I am getting about 800 to 900 on xmr stake.

Happy with it so far.

I burn very little power getting the 800-900

You guys look at everything from pure profit side

Maybe the guy wanted threadripper 2990WX anyway, but now he can actually return small part of his pc by mining when not using it.

Right now I have ryzen 1700 and vega 64 PC, when not using it i just start the miner. And I like it  ;D

Basically the performance of one Vega 64...

...for three times the price.

I paid 404 for the 1920x.

I am getting about 800 to 900 on xmr stake.

Happy with it so far.

I burn very little power getting the 800-900
Not bad, will see what new Ryzens can do when AMD release 7nm CPUs and GPUs, pretty excited ;D

I am really happy  with my setup at the moment.

I have  the ryzen  1920x
I have 1 rx 560
I have 2 1050ti

I use 220 watts

I now get 1500 for cn7  that is about 85 cents  and  I use 5 kwatts  which is about  80 cents in the summer due to high summer rates and about 50 cents in the winter .

not much profit  but a kick ass  pc  best I ever had.

And when the 2990wx drops on sale  10 minute up grade.

My experience with the amd threadripper 2990wx for mining is not good.
Firstly i tried using monerod solo and next the claymore pool miner. after downloading the monero block chain i set the threads to 16 and i got about 8/900 hashes. In claymore i was getting 11/1200 hashes.

Tried setting to 32 thread but now the hash rate dropped by 25%
Tried 48 threads and it dropped another 25%
And at 60 threads i was down to below 200 hashes.
I am a bit peeved with these results- maybe to do with windows 10 1803.

Running an instance of monerod solo and claymore pool together with 16 threads each, starting one at a time did not cure the problem either. When the second miner started it stole hash rate from the other miner and vica versa.
It seems the best thread count is 16 -no matter how many miners are running the total thread count cannot be more than 16 to get best results

Hopefully a fix can be found.
☹️

319 + 20 tax = 339 - 25 pay with master pass = 314 - 40 rebate = 274 - 50 dollar gift card promo = 224 -3 = 221 which is

cheap for that board.

excellent !

A GCP n1-standard-64 with 240GB, non pre-emptable, is ~ USD 1500 / month.

It can be found, in this same topic. Only a few posts before yours. Just take a careful read, and then ask again if you are not sure ;)

Thanks for the post
Are we talking about using lockpages with gpedit- thought this was specific to the 1920x silly me.
-ill look into this today.

Hello again
I have examined the lock page setting and it seams that the claymore miner has applied this fix already, When run with admin rights. So 1200 is still my max hash rate with 16 threads- any more threads still reduces the hash.
I am told windows 10 has a sheduling problem and may need the 1809 upgrade.
We shall see soon.

Good luck and thanks

Step 1.
Use JCE miner
https://github.com/jceminer/cn_cpu_miner

Step 2.
See this link if JCE miner autoconfig dooesn't give you 2000+ H/s

 Thanks for the info
Got the JCE miner configured now and getting 2500 to 2600 With 32 threads. Did lift higher
To 48 and 60 threads but same symptoms occured-hashes went down. Hopefully miners can
Get more efficient in time for this cpu?

Alls good now. Cheers

2500h-2600/s is already excellent and probably around the best you can achieve with cpu. If you want to try with more threads with JCE, you need to use special options for additional threads to avoid using cache, since you are fully using the cache with 32 threads: doing  this will probably bring a small performance increase with a power consumption increase ...

since jce-miner is outdate and not support monero cryptonight_R o variant 4 someone have any solution because if i use xmr-stak with 2990wx in windows 10 it have only 1200 H/sec

You're doing something wrong. jceminer was only better on older CPUs, you should get the same performance
with xmr-stak on a Threadripper. The most common mistake with XMR is running too many threads.

I reach the maximum performance by putting 16 threads, I also installed coreprio by reading various guides but nothing .. maybe we need some particular configuration in xmr-stak?

yeah, i've been eyeballing one for when my truck sells;  I too have never had state of the art, but have always ended up with 2 generations old top of the line.....  This little i3 ive been on since I received it can only do so much =)

It's hard to justify spending 2K on a motherboard and processor, but I figure I would not need to replace them for at least 6+ years..... that makes it worth it to me.

80mb cache.... that's really where it hits the home run.    Most people can't imagine the difference between a 2Mb cache and a 10Mb cache intel chip;  until they actually experience it..... it's a night and day difference.

My downside is I would be footing for a MB, CPU and a cooler; which I definitely will not be doing air since AIO's are so efficient and easy on the wallet these days.

If I did get it;  Ill definitely be putting it towards cryptonight in its spare time.    It would be a waste to not.

My 1920 has done well. I run 4 Vega 56 and the 1920 it will actually roi. Which is impressive.

they say the speed of these processors is very pleasing, you can earn them some of the cryptocurrency. delicious and the price compared to Intel.
