Title: Maybe the MTGox FIX is coming? SiteDown, TradingDown
Post by: btc237ftw on February 25, 2014, 04:07:07 AM
If they wanted to "disappear with the money" - why would they allow people to withdraw fiat?

Unlikely.  MtGox was an exchange under intense scrutiny.  Why would they pull the whole thing down without warning just to change a web site and trading engine?

If they didn't allow it, it would be suspicious and no one would send more fiat to Gox, but they allowed it so they could receive more and more fiat until they decided to run away with the cash. Like Ponzi did, he also gave people's money to gain trust even more so he could run away suddenly with more money.

It seems the payments were done today/recently to Japaneese "customers" only... so it actually looks like they are getting rid of the people who can actually sue them as residents of Japan.
I really hope and want to stay optimistic, but it doesn't look good... at all..

Deleted twitter account.
Sold the domain name.
Deleted the website. (The server isn't down... There's just no data to transmit.)

I don't know how much more proof you need before you accept it. They're gone... Not coming back as the same entity...

Do you think us, GOXBTC/GOXUSD holders will ever see our money?

You have to call on Mark directly, then make a deal with him personally.

Such pieces of sh*t. How does no one in that company realize their actions in dealing with this are making things 100x worse?

EXACTLY. Right now they are working on the site and as their record of incompetence shows - they decided to work on their live site without leaving any kind of 'Site maintenance' page or anything. Doesn't really surprise me.

Things change fast around here. I'm not a liar, but I'm not always right.

Apparently Gox acquired a new domain name. The way Gox is handling this business is infuriating. This isn't the way a professional establishment operates.

Interesting that their site returns a 200 OK.
That would happen if there was a bug in their code.
Either they have been hacked or they made a mistake in their code.

They haven't 'switched off' their site - in that case there would be a 404 message.

OK, This is a possible scenario that makes sense to me...

1) Gox have mentioned before that they have no 'sandbox' testing environment, so they have to work on the live site.
2) They have been working on fixing some bugs - and therefore to test the updates they needed to stop all trades - internal ones too - which they stopped just today - see the image which was on reddit:

3) They made some kind of fuck up in their code - VERY easy to do if you are working in a live environment - which is giving the whitescreen 200 OK

This actually makes more sense than - they decided to shut down their site and run away.

You might be right on this1 and i honestly hope you are because i have btc and fiat in mtgox. However don't you think that if they wanted to fix the code or resume withdrawals and test the site wouldn't they scream it off the rooftops as they always do, or at least let everyone know?

Plus, MtGox app confirms that there is "zero" trading volume.

Strange the source code for the blank mtgox.com web site shows the following . . .

<html>
   <head>
      <title>MtGox.com</title>
   </head>
   <body>
      <!-- put announce for mtgox acq here -->
   </body>
</html>

Well, they did say they were fixing the code. And they have a bad history of shitty PR. Plus they have said that they need to test their code 'live'. So you put that all together and maybe...

Well now their site has a message that says:

<html>
   <head>
      <title>MtGox.com</title>
   </head>
   <body>
      <!-- put announce for mtgox acq here -->
   </body>
</html>

(in the source)

so who knows. Their support page is still online so i'm very pissed that they haven't put any news on there to explain what the fuck they are doing

Just viewed the source of mtgox again and I have just seen about 20 lines of code with the phrases "mark" ,"my account id: ,and my correct ip address showing in one of the lines, when i refreshed the page to make a screenshot it was gone and now back to this again:

<html>
   <head>
      <title>MtGox.com</title>
   </head>
   <body>
      <!-- put announce for mtgox acq here -->
   </body>
</html>
