Title: Who has the 740,000 BTC?
Post by: GeniuSxBoY on February 25, 2014, 05:30:55 AM
Someone explain to me how these stolen bitcoins were distributed.

Was it a few people who knew the hack?
50-100 people who knew the hack?
1000-5000 people who knew the hack?

Are the bitcoins in the hands of a few or in the hands of many?

How would anyone other than MtGox know that?
Hell how would anyone other than MtGox even know if that is true?

My guess is it is a group of developers tied to major pools. Could have gone on for much longer but probably the hack was leaked within a circle and exploited more and more to the point where it was not longer ignorable.

The people that banked the largest amount of ill-gotten coins are probably silently sitting around pimping bitcoin, frequenting forums and gloating in their millions, and how easy it was to scam millions upon millions from stupid CEOs, developers, and the general public.

This is the wild-west time period of Bitcoin history. If you can get away with it, then do it.

The coins have been getting stolen and dumped over the span of an entire 3 years. It's not like theyre all waiting in a big pile to suddenly be dumped now.

True, fraudsters are rather bad at saving... And they got the thing going for quite a long time...

I do remember them transferring all their coins to another address at some point, so we know they had at least X amount of coins at that time
