Was it a few people who knew the hack? 50-100 people who knew the hack? 1000-5000 people who knew the hack? Are the bitcoins in the hands of a few or in the hands of many? Could have gone on for much longer but probably the hack was leaked within a circle and exploited more and more to the point where it was not longer ignorable.
The people that banked the largest amount of ill-gotten coins are probably silently sitting around pimping bitcoin, frequenting forums and gloating in their millions, and how easy it was to scam millions upon millions from stupid CEOs, developers, and the general public. I do remember them transferring all their coins to another address at some point, so we know they had at least X amount of coins at that time |
